dastardlydalliances:
Affection wasn’t a rarity to him. He’d made it a point to surround himself with as many fuck buddies as possible, physical affection was something he had on tap. But this was different. This was- he hadn’t had touch like this in millennia and he trembled. His arms dangled uselessly at his sides as he remained in her embrace, too out of practice to know really what to do.
“You’re at peace.” He asked, disbelievingly. All his struggle and pain for nothing. If they were at peace. If he trusted this. If he believed. Did he believe? He hadn’t done a single test. Think Bakura! Think. Don’t let yourself be fooled.
“.. What was my eldest’s sister’s name?”
“We are now. We weren’t always. It was a long and... difficult death for a while. Collective screaming... one day the doors just opened and we were allowed through.” She stepped back and tilted her head. “Heruben? What about her?”
necrofia:
thief-of-shadows:
“School?” He glanced at necrofia. “You want them to go to school? What about teaching them our language, and magic? What if they awaken their kas in class?” He frowned.
“We can do both.” Were they really going to hash this out right here? “It’s important for them to be able to integrate into the society they live in, should they choose to. I didn’t have that opportunity as a foreigner. They should also learn to socialize with others their age. I understand your concern about their ka – let’s talk about that later.”
She stayed out of this one, though internally she found herself agreeing with Necrofia. More options were better, it was only natural to want the best for them.
“Ah, you two will do just fine.” She mused. “Those girls are lucky.”
necrofia:
thief-of-shadows:
“Well, uh…” he bit his lip. “It’s been… difficult to conceive. We’re really lucky that we’ve got twins.”
“I wish we had a village to raise them in, but it’s just us.”
“Mm.” Fia really didn’t want to talk about her sex life and fertility issues with a woman she had just met. “I agree. It would be nice for them to grow up in the same kind of community we did. They will make friends at school, I suppose.”
“My apologies.” She conceded. Either way, they’d be perfect. “Educated? We’re real fancy here aren’t we? Wish I could have given my kids that kind of luxury. I’m happy you’ll be able to.”
necrofia:
thief-of-shadows:
“Yeah.” He smiled warmly. “I guess you will. Um… we haven’t decided quite what to name them yet.”
This was a combination of good energy, and overbearing in-law energy already. Oh no. “We have some ideas, though. I think it’ll be nice to have twins. Get pregnancy over with in one shot.” She wasn’t having the best time.
“I could rattle names off all day but it wouldn’t matter because they wouldn’t mean anything to you. Names are important. It’ll come to you.” She nodded. “Be quicker than you think, then the next ones come and soon your arms are full.” Zahra laughed.
necrofia:
thief-of-shadows:
“I guess that makes you guys in laws, haha…”
“When are you due? Its like- June, right?”
“Thank you kindly. You’re beautiful as well.” She was a little stiff and awkward, but Thief’s ‘mother’ seemed kind and positive.
“Yes, I’m due around the first or second week of June, though twins tend to come a week or two early.”
“My that is soon. A handful too.” She was extremely pleased. Whether this was her son’s family or not no longer mattered. As far as she was concerned, it was. “I’ll actually get to be a grandmother, haha!”
necrofia:
thief-of-shadows:
“Alright. Nu?” He called her over.
@necrofia
“Coming!” Fia fixed her hair one last time in the mirror before joining her husband. She was definitely, definitely nervous. “Um. Hello. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Aha! She’s so pretty!” Zahra was absolutely delighted. “It’s very nice to meet you too, my dear!”
thief-of-shadows:
“Thank you. Would you like to meet my wife, now? She’s in the other room, I’ll go get her.”
Zahra’s face lit up. “Yes! Yes I very much want to meet her!”
thief-of-shadows:
“Really? But, he’s so strong.” He paused. “I was hesitant to be a father because I thought I couldn’t handle something so fragile…”
“…Thanks.”
“Sounds just like Nakht...” She sighed. “You can handle them, you certainly won’t hurt them. You’ve got this.”
thief-of-shadows:
“I just want to be a good dad. Like my father. The whole village looked up to him…” And yet, Thief had to grow up all by himself, leading no one.
She laughed. “That man freaked out every time one of you kids was born. It was like he’d never seen a baby before.”
“The fact you want that for them is already promising. Bad parents don’t care. Good ones fear they’re bad.”
thief-of-shadows:
“You want to meet her? Alright.”
“Yeah… I don’t know what to expect. Especially with two of them…”
She let out a string of swears. “Of course I want to meet her!”
“A lot of worrying and a lot of sleepless nights. But it’s okay, they’ll be okay, and you can let them cry if they’re just being fussy. It’s all a learning experience. Gods know I couldn’t ask my mother, ha!”
thief-of-shadows:
“Necrofia. We were roommates- scandalous, I know… She’s from Kemet, too. She’s beautiful. She’s due in the summer, i think.” Bakura was smiling ear to ear. “Yeah, I hope so…”
“I must meet her.” She nodded decisively. “Are they your first children? That was so nerve wracking for me. I can imagine it’s the same for you and your wife.”
dastardlydalliances:
Her hand was warm. Soft. Wrong. Bakura jumped backwards like a scalded cat, accidentally kicking over his bowl of noodles. He didn’t notice. It hadn’t been intention. The thief was simply so highly strung in this moment that any touch had been like a crack of thunder through his nervous system.
“I- I’m sorry.” He said. His breath came out shakily and he had to gather his courage to step forward and lightly meet her fingers with his own. To touch. To hold her hand.
He sobbed, a single raggard breath as emotions broke over him like a tsunami. His eyes were dry but his chest heaved. It had been too long since the true feelings of his heart had seen the light of day, he was too removed to do more than gasp.
“Do you remember- what happened to you?” No. No. Please say no. For the sake of his littlest sisters. For his nieces. For every soul who’d deserved better than the slaughter.
She was taken aback by how much he stumbled, but she stayed put and let him return.
“Not good enough!” She huffed, pulling him in for a hug the moment he grabbed her hand again. No child of hers was going to go without some affection when they were upset!
“Ah... my dear, we do. We all do.” She pet his hair gently as she held him against her. “But if you are concerned, do not be. We’ve made it to the field. There’s no more pain or suffering left. Just the breeze and the sun.”
Even if you are not her kid, Zahra will adopt you.
thief-of-shadows:
“Probably.” He laughed. “Even if you’re not really her… I got married! We’re having twins. I’m so happy, mom…”
Her face lit up and she stepped back, gripping his shoulders. “Married? Babies?! Who is this girl? Where did you meet? Is her family good? Pretty? When are they due?!” She gasped suddenly, her eyes going wide. “Your father’s going to be thrilled!”
thief-of-shadows:
“You never told me!” Had it been that long since he’d summoned them? He couldn’t help himself barreling into her arms for an embrace.
She blinked, but happily wrapped her arms around him. “It might be a different point in time. Things get really weird when you’re dead. We were in this... perpetual state of anguish for a while and then one day the doors opened and we went through. Though you might have spoken to a ‘me’ that’s still stuck in that point of time.”
thief-of-shadows:
“Mom…” He frowned. She was never so coherent before. “Mom, it’s me. Akefia. Don’t you remember me?”
“The reeds? Did you- Did you escape the ring? Mom!”
Ah, it was another one of these. She smiled and nodded. “I do. Mostly the tiny little thing no bigger than my knee, but I do remember you.”
“Yes. We’ve been there a little while now. The sun is so warm...” She sighed.
