An appreciation post for live theater.

Last nights performance of The Lost Boys had some little oops moments that really just show live theatre and I love them.

The button on the jacket during “Hurt a Little” fell off before Michael jumped on the bench so when he gets down to show it to Star he’s holding nothing and she slaps the button into his hand from where she picked it up. LJ didn’t even look stressed, he did the stealing the button motion and held his hand out with the line minus the button as if it was there, didn’t even skip a beat when Maria placed it in his hand.

During the briefing on possible head vamps we got from Miguel “Gene, the piercing shop guy, he will shave you, but will he shave your neck… I meant pierce.”

After Max steps out of the salt circle he says “Sam, I’m not trying to steal your dad…not your dad, I mean your mom” the audience lost it at this one, was a solid bit of laughing before he could continue. Paul though stayed ever in character and continued on after with his “I should go” line. Was a great transition.

I saw the show a few days ago and Lose myself had the line “I like the danger here/ strangers are stranger here” but last night it sounded like it was off and Michael kind of came in on “strangers are stranger here” so idk if it was a missed line or just a new edit they are working out.

Either way it’s so amazing to see these actors who do this show up to 8 times a week while making changes currently to be able to keep going no matter what. This is why I love live theater.

I do like to imagine Shane going 'I can do casual sex, ive been having casual sex for a long time.' Then getting some hook up, having casual sex and going 'what the fuck was that????' Because its not intensely romantic undernegotiated kink sex with his partner of nearly a decade. He like hooks up with a handful of guys that he just thinks are bad at sex and comes to the conclusion that Ilya must just be a god at sex, when really the other people ilya is hooking up with are not getting the Shane treatment, its just the two of them being freaks for each other.
