The Zhaos, watching the beautiful, dainty kept man they've been supporting drag a guy miles through the snow, spear through his shoulder without even looking, and bash his face in: um.
PURSUIT OF JADE 逐玉 (2026) — You want to divorce me that badly?
fan changyu: ...you would really stay in lin'an??
xie zheng: girl you would not BELIEVE how much i thirst for the househusband life

I think sometimes a woman wants to fantasize about a big strong man who will protect her and sometimes she wants a sad, scared wet puppy of a man that she can protect and sometimes both of these men are the same person
Now why is it through The Best Thing that I find out that China doesn't have a HIPAA equivalent
i love turning off lights. no need for all that
on a side note i'm enjoying why women love mostly because of gu jia xin's character. if we overlook ziyi's acting, which is quite unpolished, i think the character he plays is extremely loveable and one of the best things of the drama.
the fact that we have a rom-com office drama where the male protagonist, who is going to inherit a huge tech company, acts kindly with his co-workers, is sweet with the boss, respects her, makes various mistakes but quickly apologises and tries to amend for them, actually listens to what other people tell him or try to teach him without having the typical rich guy pretentious attitude which is often shown in dramas .... all of this is so so nice to watch. for once it feels like watching a pretty healthy drama, that doesn't revolve around a low-key toxic male lead.
i'm just at the very first episodes so i might be very wrong about it.
another bonus point is jin chen's character. sometimes cdramas like to show women in their 30s, who are professionally accomplished but total failures in their love lives, as childish, immature and not acting their age. zhao jiang yue on the other hand really looks and acts like a female team chief of a tech company and is overall a really mature character. and i love her for that. couldn't have asked for more TT
idk if anyone is watching why women love, it's actually quite clichè in terms of storyline but the characters are enjoyable! personally i started watching it for jin chen but i must say that it's not disappointing me so far <3

Doing my yearly rewatch of Why Women Love and one thing they do really well is immediately dropping the physical boundary between Jiangyue and Jiaxin.
We're told that they know of each other (boss's son, mother's subordinate) but they don't know each other, yet with Jiaxin entering Jiangyue's office without her being in it, snooping through her stuff, catching her practicing replies in the mirror, they're all up in each other's face.
Most of the boundary breaking is done by Jiaxin, which is in character for him (young, cocky, used to getting what he wants), but Jiangyue does it too when she feels up his stomach for abs.
In many other romcom dramas that I've seen, they make a big deal out of the first time the leads touch each other, and WWL does some of that too, especially further down the line when both of them begin to catch feelings, but there's something about how Jiaxin is all up in Jiangyue's personal space and she lets him.
We're told Jiangyue is this serious boss babe who is not capable of romantic love and that is immediately juxtaposed with this handsome younger guy shouldering his way into her apartment and cooking her food without much of a fight put up.
Some of that is that she doesn't initially see him (and him her) as a romantic partner, and that he's the son of her boss, so he gets some leeway, her guard doesn't need to be up with him.
But why did she never fully let Mr. Xu in, despite having a crush on him?
Despite Jiangyue outwardly protesting, we see how comfortable she is around Jiaxin from the very beginning, and it helps convince the audience that she will eventually fall in love with him (and why Xu is not a good fit). Some shows just have the two leads spend a lot of time together and will be like "they're in love!" without doing the background work to make it make sense but WWWL does.
Headcanon: After Changning is rescued by Zheng, no one acts differently around her because no one realizes that she doesn’t know Zheng is the Marquis, and that’s because Ning is a practical child and doesn’t ask too many questions. And because Zheng has proven that he will risk his life for Ning, everyone understands that this girl is to be protected at all costs. So everyone just treats her as if she’s a VIP.
Ning doesn’t understand exactly what’s going on, but she knows that Zheng is smart and brave and capable and she just accepts that he is a valuable person and of course people will defer to him.
Also, Ning is the only child in an actively-besieged military camp and assigning her a babysitter is not a priority. She’s a good kid who can entertain herself without causing trouble (or, at least, not too much trouble), so she’s been given free run of the camp.
With that, enjoy this vignette:
CAMP – EXTERIOR – NIGHT: General Xie Wu is walking when he overhears two guards. Wu pauses outside of their sightline.
GUARD 1: Hey, what’s the Marquis’ daughter doing up so late?
GUARD 2: Who knows. Why do you care?
GUARD 1: I just think someone should be watching out for her. It’s not safe for a little girl to be running around a military camp alone.
GUARD 2: Who would be stupid enough to risk the Marquis’ wrath by touching her? Even if she isn’t his daughter.
GUARD 1: What?!
GUARD 2: I heard a rumor that she calls him “Brother-in-law.”
GUARD 1: That’s ridiculous. We would have heard if His Lordship had gotten married.
General Wu steps purposefully in front of them, eyeing the two guards. They snap to attention and look nervous.
WU: Which direction did the child go?
Both guards hurriedly point and Wu eyes them again before striding off.
Wu finds Ning wandering and calls to her.
WU: Little miss! What are you doing up at this hour?
NING: I had a bad dream and I want Brother-in-law. Can you help me find him?
Wu nods and Ning reaches her arms up to him. Unable to resist, he gathers Ning to his chest and carries her off to the Marquis’ quarters.
CUT
ZHENG’S QUARTERS – INTERIOR – NIGHT: Xie Zheng and Gongsun Yin are seated and looking over papers.
WU: (from outside) Sir?
ZHENG: Come!
Wu enters, carrying Ning. Zheng and Gongsun look up.
WU: Sir, Changning had a bad dream and requested to see you.
NING: (lifting her sleepy head from Wu’s shoulder) Can I sleep with you?
Gongsun’s eyes light up because he’s been trying to find a diplomatic way to say that Zheng looks terrible and needs to rest.
GONGSUN: That’s an excellent idea!
ZHENG: (bewildered and slightly frightened) What?
Wu sets Ning on her feet. Ning walks over to Zheng and places her head on his shoulder as Gongsun launches into his speech.
GONGSUN: Changning has been through a harrowing ordeal! Of course she needs the safety and comfort of being with someone she knows and trusts. How can you possibly expect her to sleep alone in this strange, unknown place and not be fretful? You must recline with her until she can fall asleep.
NING: (looking up at Zheng) Please?
Zheng looks at Ning and his face softens as he feels a consuming affection; this precious child is his sister now and he can deny her nothing.
ZHENG: (softly) All right.
Gongsun oversees the tucking-in process, making appropriate mother-hen clucking noises. Ning has settled in, hugging Zheng’s arm to her chest and effectively trapping him.
ZHENG: (to Gongsun) Just until she falls asleep, we still have work to do.
GONGSUN: Of course, of course!
NING: Goodnight, Strategist.
GONGSUN: Goodnight, little one! I’ll just extinguish these candles.
Before Zheng can argue, Gongsun has blown out the candles and exits the darkened space with Wu.
Zheng looks mildly uncomfortable, unsure of the whole situation.
NING: I miss Sister.
A wistful smile creeps across Zheng’s face.
ZHENG: So do I.
CUT
CAMP – EXTERIOR – IMMEDIATELY AFTER: Gongsun and Wu are walking away.
WU: How long until you return?
GONGSUN: What? No, I’m not coming back tonight. I’m going to bed.
WU: But you promised the Marquis—
GONGSUN: (waves Wu off) They will both be asleep imminently and His Lordship requires rest. A sound sleep will serve us all well. Goodnight!
Gongsun walks away looking smug. He might not be able to employ this tactic every night but he will have to discuss with Ning about when it might be convenient for her to have another bad dream.
