It's been a whole year since I first made this art for my dear friend, Mohammed Ayesh @/blackeagleplog , who is still suffering from the same dangers since the very start of this genocide. These days, I still talk to him daily via WhatsApp and he remains steadfast & positive in the face of all his troubles.
I cannot understate how deserving he is of help.
For a long time, he has put aside promoting his own campaign in favour of helping others:
Vetting campaigns on the ground to assure everyone of legitimacy
Creating the Ihyaa Society @ihyaasociety which provides a space for students to continue their education online despite the genocide
It is very important that he himself is supported, given how much he has done for others. Please consider donating to him today. Any amount, no matter how small, will help him.
As of July 9th 2025:
£4,477 / £15,000
Hi my name is Shelley and I am fundraising on behalf of the Ayesh family. Here is their story
My … Shelley Gordon needs your support for
Sami went to this place today to bring some flour for his large family who are suffering like many people in Gaza. Sami is putting himself in danger in order to feed his family. He could have bought flour, but there is no source of income for him and his family because of the lack of life and the complete destruction of the infrastructure. Even baby milk is only available at very high prices. Netanyahu says all the people of Gaza must be killed. Even the children must be killed in his view because they were born there. Donate anything to Sami's family, anything that saves their lives.
I am not a number in the news, nor a fleeting scene on your screens… I am a human being trapped, hungry, thirsty, living every day between fear, bombing, and death.
The world around us is silent, as if the blood being shed in Gaza is not human blood. The sky above our heads has turned into a ceiling of fire and smoke, and the ground beneath our feet knows nothing but the smell of ashes.
We are not just a news story forgotten after an hour… we are faces, names, and dreams. We are children waiting for a piece of bread, and mothers waiting for their children to return from under the rubble.
We are souls crying for help: do not let us be buried in your silence, for silence in the time of extermination is a crime.
Imagine that children sleep here and cover themselves with blankets even though the temperature is 40 degrees. Do you know why??? Simply because they are afraid of the shelling and bombs... a bloody childhood 💔💔

Israeli forces are specifically brutalising Chris Smalls, the only Black member of the last Freedom Flotilla. And most union leaders and media outlets aren’t speaking about it.

“When he reached the Israeli prison, U.S. human rights defender Chris Smalls was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals,” the coalition said on X.
Chris Smalls is an American labor organizer from New Jersey who founded and led the Amazon Labor Union (ALU).
“They choked him and kicked him in the legs, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back,” the statement said.
The FFC highlighted that “when his lawyer met with him, Chris was surrounded by six members of Israel’s special police unit. This level of force was not used against other abducted activists.”
It decried the attack, saying: “We condemn this violence against Chris and demand accountability for the assault and discriminatory treatment he faced.”

On Monday, details emerged that not only was Smalls detained, but he was physically beaten by the IDF. He was the only Black member of the Freedom Flotilla on the Handala.
“The Freedom Flotilla Coalition confirms that upon arrival in Israeli custody, U.S. human rights defender, Christian Small, was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals,” wrote the Freedom Flotilla Coalition on Instagram. “They choked him and kicked him, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back”.
Still, despite Smalls having been profiled by every major media outlet in the U.S. when he successfully led the union drive at Amazon, not a single major media outlet has covered his violent detention by the IDF three days ago.
In 2022, The New York Times even ran a Style section profile on his fashion choices among more than a dozen pieces that they ran on his organizing efforts, but the paper has not said anything about the detention and beating of a high-profile labor activist at the hands of the IDF. Only three smaller left-leaning outlets, Zeteo, The Grio, and Jezebel covered it.
“This totally makes sense,” wrote University of New Brunswick Professor Nathan Kalman-Lamb on Bluesky. “A notable public figure in the US (Amazon labor organizer Christian Smalls) is illegally arrested by Israel and subjected to severe physical violence while on a hunger strike… and not one US media outlet of any type has decided that is news.”
Some union leaders have already begun to speak out about his detention.
"As a union, we are demanding the immediate release of Chris Smalls and all captured activists," said the 29,000-member California Faculty Association in a statement late Monday. "We further call for an immediate end to the engineered famine and deliberate starving of the people in Gaza, labor complicity with genocide, and all US military aid to Israel".
Other unions are expected to denounce the beating & detention of Smalls by the IDF.
However, his international union leader, Teamsters union President Sean O'Brien, has stayed silent on the detention of Smalls, who founded the Amazon Labor Union, which is now an affiliate of the Teamsters.
Instead, the Teamsters President Sean O'Brien took to social media to advertise his upcoming interview with fascist commentator Vivek Ramaswamy and his 3 million right-wing followers.
the distinction is important bc there r cultures from other people of color that are treated with more respect and thought just bc of being distanced from blackness, the very idea of not looking black even if ur a brown person often gives u a level of humanity not given to us, its why the phenomenon of ppl loving disco and jazz from japanese ppl bc “its Cool that a not black person is doing it!” happens, its why the “novelty” of a white rapper can launch entire careers even if the white rapper in question is terrible at rap, its why a white person who decides to get dreads won’t get discriminated against the same as a black person with dreads does bc our hairstyles on us r seen as unclean and unprofessional but on you its quirky and spiritual, proximity to blackness determines so much of how things get viewed
like yes under white supremacy people of color in general get treated less than for not being white, but white supremacy also is founded on believing there is a hierarchy of the races, and that some brown ppl r inherently “better” than others, we cannot fight racism and unlearn biases if we cant be direct on who we r speaking about when talking about specific kinds of racism, if the post says black, donot say poc, say black, every black person is a person of color but not every person of color is black, acknowledging this is important
Hey. People in my inbox saying you relate with intersex experiences because you were put on hormones as a kid for a hormonal condition.
Perisex people aren't put on hormones as children for a hormonal condition. You are intersex. You've been told your intersex traits are a disorder and you have been deprived of your community. I encourage you to learn more about the intersex community and participate if you'd like to. This community saved me.
being an intersex person who isnt a waifish hairless elf devoid of any visible sex characteristics i honestly think if i was a fictional character id be denounced as a transphobic stereotype
He reached out to other progressive candidates, and thanks to ranked choice voting they could all cross endorse one another. Brad Lander's been a badass walking the fucking walk, actively working hard as city comptroller and holding down another job and doing things like showing up for immigrants at court so he can walk them past ice agents and keep them safe. Mamdani saw a kindred spirit and they talked and shook hands and formed a coalition because they both knew better things were possible and the city deserved a decent fucking human in office.
And it worked.
I'm sitting here halfway across the country and I can't help but think about how it sounds a little bit like a joke at first. A liberal Jewish guy and a socialist Muslim man walk into an election, shake hands... and the punchline is I regain some faith in people.
Now here's hoping everybody gets their shit together so Mamdani can win the general.
Reminder that the only reason "hermaphrodite" is even used in biology is because some zoologists a couple hundred years ago were were too lazy to come up with a new term to talk about how snails reproduce, and instead opted to compare them to intersex people. (Which were, at the time, ONLY called hermaphrodites. The word intersex didn't exist yet.)
Hermaphrodite has referred to intersex people since before we knew what a gamete was.
It wouldn't fucking kill you to use cosexed/cosexual, dichogamous, monoecious, gonosimulite, or whatever else to talk about animal species that have dual reproductive function. You don't need to contribute to a slur for us staying normalized.
The use of the h-word to describe cosexual organisms wasn't (just) a laziness thing. The practice started during the era of scientific racism and must be understood in this context.
European colonists began describing black African genitals with the h-word from the 1600s onwards, describing black men as inherently having monorchidism, and black women as having elongated labia ("Hottentot apron") & clitoromegaly. These supposed genital differences were described as a sign of the "Hottentots' animal origin" (Swarr, 2023).
It was only after the h-word developed this connotation that biologists began using the term to describe cosexual organisms. Because colonists had first used the h-word to make the connection between black intersex traits and nonhuman animals.
(Old timey biologists btw already had plenty of other words in their arsenal for cosexual organisms, like androgyne and bisexual. Bisexual still gets used in botany.)
As eugenics and scientific racism developed, there became more motivation to find ~*~data~*~ to fit the idea that black people were more likely to be intersex (so as to prove the idea they were "less evolved").
But since no data actually supported this hypothesis, in the 19th century biologists just.... redefined the h-word to try and make it work. 🙃
"True" h-words were redefined as cosexual & dichogamous organisms plus humans with ovotestes. At the time, ovotestes in humans could only be determined by autopsy. This was extremely convenient for eugenicists, as it turned the diagnosis of living humans into a question of ~vibes~.
So the scientific racists could then go around calling any black intersex person a "true" h-word based on vibes, and any white intersex person was a "pseudo"-h-word also based on vibes. In order to "prove" that black people are "less evolved". 🙃
The idea that black people are more likely to be intersex has been repeatedly debunked, but really hasn't gone away: it's still cited in the present day as justification for the race-selective sex testing of athletes.
For more detail on this I highly recommend the book Envisioning African Intersex by Swarr, which is open access and can be read for free here.
Semi-related but I suspect many people nowadays who aren't scientist don't even know that there's another word they can use besides the h-word. I could just have bad luck with google but...
I took a zoology class in high-school. That was the first time I'd ever heard the words dioecious or monoecious.
I forgot the words sometime after high-school but remembered they existed. I was doing some world building and tried to search up "words for organisms with male and female genitals" but the only result I could find was the h-word. I think I ended up digging through my zoology homework to find it.
And that just kind of pisses me off.
Anyway yea if your looking for a word for a species where members are both male and female, the word is monoecious, as well as others op mentioned.

literally everything on earth feels like it somehow stems from some cunt waking up one morning and going "wow! i just thought of a new way to be awful to black people!"
