My Bird Blog

Holly is a female eclectus, eight years old as of April 25th, 2024. I got her at almost 2 years old on April 14th, 2018. We struggle with plucking, to varying degress of recovery. She's loves stealing my food, safflower seeds, and screaming.   Cusita is a rescue Congo African Grey that hatched in 2005. We got her in 2019 after an injury left her temporarily paralyzed. She came to us cage bound, and is still selective when stepping up. She enjoys scritches, pistachios, and vocalizing. Merlin is a greenwing macaw, somewhere between 35 and 40 years old. He came into my care as a (very much ill advised) surprise Christmas present in 2021. He chews on his feathers out of habit, which is why he looks a little rough for wear. He enjoys cuddles, training, and annoying the neighbors. Also featuring Gravy, found as a 5 week old kitten on 7/4/21. He lived with my dad until March 2025. And Casserole (Cassie), found as an approx 5 month kitten on 11/11/24. As for me, the curator of this blog, you can call me Squid, any pronouns are fine, and i am an adult :) (icon by @arts-i-enjoy)

Results are back on the kittens, its does appear to just be bog standard panleukopenia. No cure or treatment, just got to try to keep them eating and drinking and hope they can fight it on their own. But at least its not a certain death sentence.

They invented a type of bird that lives on the couch. It's called a Cusita.

The babies have been making me VERY worried this week, and finally got a second vet visit today. Vet thinks most likely is antibiotic overdose (😡), possibly coccidia, and distant third option of panleukopenia. The girl is doing the worst, shorthair boy doing middling, and longhair boy doing best, which would make sense for antibiotic overdose because thats lightest to heaviest. Lil girl got some fluids, and I've been sent home with two varieties of high nutrition food, a powder supplement to put on their food, and meds in case its coccidia.

I won't be going back to the first vet, who only weighed one of my kittens and prescribed them the same dosage.

These kittens are much more affectionate than my last kidnapping victims, they love to just. Sit on you. You sir down? Kitten in lap. Often 2. The girl is the most reserved, but I think she mostly just isn't feeling very well. They all have a vet appointment Saturday and I'm worried I should have taken them today.... but despite this, they are just very sweeties

Making them into lap cats. Short haired boy never stops purring, its adorable. And long hair boy keeps grooming his siblings. And lil girl likes to curl up on you all the time.
