so! We started up again mid-combat. Rock Rock and Arya got about 12 damage off between them against the Doppelganger, but it was fairly negligible, given the following.
Soooo I don't know that we told you about this, but throughout the earlier parts of this campaign we've been pretty suspicious of this shopkeeper, Barthen. Arya and Katrina had been on the team of an imposter or him as a traitor, but we ended up dropping it because bigger stuff happened. Wait did I mention a doppelganger?
OKAY!!! We got the entire face reveal, that being a doppelganger impersonated Barthen, we were fucking right of course we were. Oh yeah and then they set off a spell better named thunderwave-on-crack, rather than Destructive Wave. So the thing is, it could've been worse. Out of the sixty possible damage that the vast majority of our party could have taken, the maximum anyone took was 40. We're fucking level four.
For that, Derius and Cassius were out of range, the lucky fuckers.
Arya, Remi, and Rock Rock succeeded on their constitution saves, so only took 20, but that left Rock Rock at 18, Arya at 12, and Remi at 3.
Katrina, William, and Shinseki were. . . Significantly less lucky, taking 40 damage each. William died instantaneously, and Katrina and Shinseki both fell unconscious.
Throughout this absolute hell, Cassius was in a state of shock, and the bugbear[King Grol] called for backup.
Sound off!! Drupe is safe and alive, Shinseki is surrounded, unconscious. Cassius is comatose, in a state of shock because his child just got burnt to a crisp. Arya is still standing, Katrina is Unconscious, Rock Rock is still standing, and Remi is alive, but barely. Derius is alive and fully functioning.
At this point after that absolute devastation, two things happen. Remi stabs and kills King Grol with a dagger, and three goblins arrive and knock Arya unconscious with sheer willpower. Lovely. Derius, the only one thinking, feeds Shinseki a healing potion and runs immediately after, along with Cassius. Then, a bugbear and the goblins that were previously attacking Cassius return, RIDING AN ACTUAL WORM. THIS ISNT FUCKING STRANGER THINGS. absolutely joyous.
I'll interject to say that at this point we're all fully crashing out. Shinseki's player was on the floor, and Reggie, @ambitions-of-candlewax , and I were reaching a point past hysteria. Our DM is insane, hes crazy, he looked so ridiculously happy that entire time. We took a five minute water break to recollect and crash out a little bit.
At this point, I've failed a death save for Arya, and Katrina has succeeded. Agonizing is the fact that both Katrina and Arya had healing potions on them but Remi, the only one in a position to help either of them at the moment, doesn't know.
Luckily, Shinseki managed to disengage, and fed Arya a healing potion, as the goblins that fell her dragged her by. Arya's alive!!!!!
We ended as the other bugbear showed up.
