Solange Pessoa (b 1961, Ferros, Brazil) lives and works in Belo Horizonte.

In Pessoa’s works nature takes over canvases that feature icon-like representations of vegetable forms.

Suggestive of leaves, stems, fruit and flowers, Pessoa's colour also comes from the organic world: she paints using the dull brown juice of the genipap plant. While the smaller genipap works appear sketch-like, the larger white-on-black oil paintings have monumental presence.
