Roman Around \\ Arena Day One
As I ran blindly away from the Cornucopia I found myself running through a concrete maze. I wasnât paying attention to where I was going, just preoccupied with putting as much distance between myself and my fellow tributes. Iâd heard the cannons, I knew how many people were dead and I knew that my days alive were numbered if I couldnât get far away from the blood lust of people who I had considered my friends.
Interview: Rowan Archer
Zenovia: Next up is another beautiful and strong young lady. All the way from District 11, give it up for Rowan Archer! *crowd screams and claps*
Rowan: *walks onto the stage, smiling and waving shyly*
Zenovia: Don't be shy, dear, I don't bite! *laughs* So, Rowan, how are you enjoying the Capitol?
Rowan: You'll forgive me if I doubt that fact right? It's the Capitol, everything is bright and in your face. I think I prefer home, no offence.
Zenovia: Of course. *laughs* Well, there's no place like home, right? Anyway, tell us how you feel about being a tribute.
Rowan: *is silent for a long moment before releasing a sigh* I hate it. I was ripped from my bed and thrown into a hovercraft with kids whose only crime was to be born to absentee parents.
Zenovia: Uh-huh, I see. It seems a lot of people were unhappy about that. *takes a short break of silence* Moving on.. let's talk about your Private Training score. You received an impressive 9. You must be happy about that, yes?
Rowan: It's just a number. It means very little in the grand scheme of things doesn't it? Tributes with double digits die at the hands of tributes who barely scraped by with a mediocre score. But yes, I'm happy with it.
Zenovia: You are very right. However, you did seem to catch the eye of one of the sponsors. Is there anything you would like to say to Ms. Lily Swifthall?
Rowan: *bites her lip nervously* I'd like to thank her for believing in me and that if I manage to continue to hold her interest I will endeavour to win for her.
Zenovia: I'm sure she will take those words into great consideration! So, Rowan, is there anyone at home waiting for your return?
Rowan: There is. My brother Reagan and my mother. I'm sure they are worried about me but I hope that I'll be home with them again really soon.
Zenovia: We hope so too! One last question, will we be seeing you in an alliance with anyone in the arena?
Rowan: I guess you'll just have to see? I'd hate to ruin the surprise.
Zenovia: Well wait and see we will! *laughs* Rowan, any last words before we unfortunately have to say goodbye?
Rowan: I'd just like to say that everyone should avoid Vincenzo Bach like the plague. He is a liar, a womaniser and a drunk. Feel free to throw rotten eggs, tomatoes and other assorted vegetables at him when you see him. *she grins at the camera before standing up and strutting off the stage*

Lily selected those tribute as potential sponsor:Â Marlee or RowanÂ
ROWAN ARCHER 9
Congratulations or Commiserations: Infirmary with Marlee
I went and delivered the good news to Marlee. It was nice to hear her so excited about a phone call home. We might have borrowed a wheelchair and had a few races before I took her to her room to settle in. But the fun stops tomorrow.Â

I frowned, shaking my head. âNo, you are,â I reassured her. âI know it. You come down to the training centre every day and work hard- thereâs tributes who sit around and do nothing, I havenât even seen them. That takes bravery, to come forward and try.â I didnât like Rowan doubting herself, I wanted her to see herself as special as I saw her.Â
"They will be," I agreed with confidence. I wanted to talk to them so badly, which was why I just held Rowanâs hand and let the nurse examine me, clearing me for discharge. I knew I could walk, but when I saw the wheelchair, I got a devilish smile on my face and nodded eagerly. "Weâll take it for a joyride," I whispered with glee, climbing into the chair and gripping the arms of it with delight.Â
Rowan pushed me out of the infirmary where we were meant by a long and empty hall. âWe should see how fast this thing can go,â I grinned. âThereâs no worry about hurting me, Iâm about to get my injuries patched up anyways!â
Marlee was excited about this suggestion and as she climbed into the wheelchair I was glad I could give her a little bit of joy after the day she'd had. Maybe in the arena she'd remember this with a fondness when she was hungry and scared in the dead of night. I pushed her out of the infirmary, spinning her around as we raced up and down the hallways for a few laps.Â
Our laughter mingled together and by the time we finally made one last lap of the hallway I knew it was time to head up and get Marlee to bed. It was high time she was treated for the injuries that dotted her skin and her family would be waiting for her. "Come on kid, time for bed."

Me and Mallory were the winners! I grinned brightly, so happy to share the victory with someone I liked. And on a strategical level, the target wasnât just on my back, but on hers too. Being alone at the top was never good, hopefully I could sneak by on still being the cute little girl, but I doubted that. Now people might not underestimate me as much as before. âThank you,â I said softly. âWhy didnât you do it?âÂ
Her question made me light up and I thought for a moment. âIâm going to tell them how much I love them, and about all the stuff I did this week, and then maybe Geoff will have some advice for the Games. He gives the best advice,â I explained. âAnd then probably how much I love them again.â I hadnât gotten to say much to them when I was kidnapped, so now that I got a whole conversation Iâd have to plan it out.Â
Rowanâs fingers gently stroked a few strands of hair from my forehead and I closed my eyes just a little at the touch, gentle and soft. I was incredibly tired and worn out, but now that I had the exciting news I didnât want to shut my eyes. I nodded a little, I wanted to go upstairs. The nurse came over again and lifted the hem of my shirt up, checking out the cuts remaining from the dozens of splinters Iâd had (and subsequently had removed) on my stomach which had scabbed over. The touch hurt slightly and I found myself reaching for Rowanâs hand as she poked and prodded my burns and checked my stitches. It hurt a lot, but I wouldnât cry. âYou can go, sweetheart,â the nurse cooed. âYou get to have your injuries all fixed up later tonight!âÂ
"I'm not as brave as you are." I hadn't seen the point in going through the obstacle course. Especially because at the end of it all I could have been covered in scratches and broken bones but I still would have lost. Mallory had proven that to me the other day. I wasn't as strong as the rest of them and I didn't really want that fact hammered home before I'd even stepped foot into private training.Â
It was nice seeing how excited she was about winning. She'd put her heart and soul into the task and now she could reap the rewards. "I'm sure they'll be excited to hear from you."Â
I glanced up at the nurse as she arrived to make sure that Marlee was alright to be discharged. Holding her hand throughout the process until she was cleared to go up to her room. I helped her out of bed, my hand still in hers as I spotted a wheelchair in the corner. "You want to go for a ride in that thing?"

Rowan sat herself next to me and I felt a sense of familiarity, like when we sat together on the hovercraft that first night. So much had changed since then, Iâd done some growing up and I was proud of everything I accomplished. I tilted my head a little, surprised people were talking about it, about me. Her next words made my jaw drop. âWait⊠you mean I won? I actually won?â If I hadnât been so injured I wouldâve jumped up and down. âAnd I get to call my family?âÂ
The nurse shuffled by, a wayward glance in my direction as she bustled through the room. She didnât have to worry, I was just fine and with the right amount of painkillers could go up to my room soon, I was sure. Rowanâs comment made me shrug, which consequently hurt my burn and I winced, whimpering only a tiny bit. âI had to be brave,â I replied. âIt was scary but I just did it. I wanted to prove that I can be strong, too.âÂ
"You did, you were named joint winner with Mallory. I'm proud of you." She'd done something that others hadn't even tried. She'd beaten tributes who were bigger and stronger than she was. "What are you going to say to them, huh? I'm sure they'll be eager to hear from you as soon as you're ready."
I reached out pushing a strand of Marlee's hair from her forehead, careful of the wound that sat there. She looked exhausted and I wondered if I should leave. "Do you want some help up to your room? From the looks on the nurse, I think you could probably be handed over to the care of your mentor."
