9.11 Studying for my first exam of the semester (Pediatrics). Happy studying everyone!
I've been awake in bed for 3hrs hours now. I wake up every morning and there are always more things that need to be done. Most of my stress revolves around cleaning and school work. Staying productive and keeping these things under control can be stupidly draining.
I always tell myself the same things. Just start. Just do something, even if it's little. Sometimes these mantras work, sometimes they don't. When they don't, journaling always helps. I write about my negative thought patterns and how I'm feeling. Then I write why they are irrational or how I can overcome them. Motivation comes in waves, sometimes you have to put in a little effort to catch one.
How to start!
Make some coffee/ tea / snack.
Instead of spending hours procrastinating on your phone, watch a motivational video while you eat.
Tidy your study space, get rid of dishes, mugs and anything that isn´t study related. Leave your glass of water.
Go wash your face with cold water.
Check time.
Turn off your phone and computer. If your study material is there, turn the wifi off.
Study.
Take a short break. (Go to the toilet, refill your glass, stretch, open a window, listen to music, talk to someone, call your mom, etc)
Follow this sequence four times.
Take a long break. (Get another snack, watch a motivational video, go on a short walk, read a book, do some yoga, take a shower, go outside, doodle, post something on tumblr, take a nap or whatever you´d like to do. DO NOT WATCH A TV SHOW YOU ARE NOT GOING TO STOP AND YOU KNOW IT PUNK. Also, make it so that your break doesn´t last longer that 25 minutes, don´t waste precious time)
Go back, keep studying.
ToDo ToDay
~Redo geography assignment
~Citations for leadership project
~Finish case studies 4-6 for leadership
~Grocery shopping
~Work
What do you want to get done today? Did you complete everything?
1.14.16 // Last semester I finished strong with a 4.0, so I'm pumped for this new semester and I'm loving this building I have classes in! I also love my new schedule! I'm at school all day Monday's and Wednesday's from 10-6 with a 2 and 3 hour break in there, but no class on Tuesdays and only one on Wednesdays make up for it! I'm also taking two online classes.
I haven't done too well in two of my classes my first semester of freshman year. It's very discouraging because I'm scared that since I couldn't do good my first semester that means I'll do worse in the future with more advanced classes. I was so unorganized and not ready. I'll basically have to get straight A's the rest of my college career to get the GPA I want. Any tips or advice? 😞
Go to my last post and you'll see my advice for getting good grades. Besides that, don't let this semester stop you from working your ass off. The only one stopping you from succeeding is you, and I'll tell you right now, you ARE capable of getting fantastic grades. You might not have a 4.0, but you can still have a 3.8/9 by the time you graduate. My other recommendation is to make sure you understand EVERYTHING gone over in class before the next time that class meets. Even if I got an A on an exam, I'd still stay after and figure out what I got wrong. Also, go on Rate My Professors when registering for next semester and find the best professors for all of the classes you'll be taking. If their classes are full, check everyday or get on the wait list. If you don't get in, there are ALWAYS people who drop within the first day. I did this for my first semester and I loved all my professors. As for organization, along with what I wrote in my last post about planners, make sure to look at the syllabi for all classes and write every single test, quiz, exam, and due date in a planner. Even if you don't use the planner for anything else, this can be a life saver. Use the stress you're feeling right now and target it towards doing better. I stressed for months before school because I didn't think I could handle it. That pressure I put on myself helped keep me motivated and I was not going to disappoint myself. Good luck!
Congratulations on your exam marks! You obviously must have worked really hard and they definitely paid off. :). I have my final exams next year and I’m very nervous - I’m just about to go into my last year of high school. Do you have any study tips or advice for me before I got into my final year? Thank you (and once more, congrats! ;) )
// HOW TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL //1) Every class is different. Determine the best way to organize, take notes, and study for each class. 2) Learn to study efficiently! Don't waste time reading things you don't need to, or going beyond what's required if it doesn't help you. This doesn't mean scrape along and procrastinate. This means to study smart and focus on what's important to know. 3) Related to #2, but don't write out every single flashcard, use an online flashcard app or website like Quizlet! Writing them out takes twice as long. Take the time you would have been making pretty notecards and use that time to actually study them instead. 4) As for note taking, at the end of class go through your notes and revise them. When I say revise, I don't mean spend hours making them perfect for tumblr, I mean make them useful. What has worked for every single class for me is to turn my notes into vocab words and questions. Any random blurts of information that can't be vocab words, turn into a question. For example, (and this is coming from my notes) "Caffeine causes vasoconstriction of vascular smooth muscle which causes cold hands." I would turn this into a question: Why does caffeine cause cold hands? Answer: because it causes vasoconstriction of vascular smooth muscle. Then I might make vasoconstriction a vocab word. 5) Put your vocab words and questions directly into Quizlet as soon as you can. This will help keep things organized. Also, even if there is a bit of information that you think is common sense and you think you will remember it, make a flashcard anyways. It will make finals easier if you know absolutely everything that could be on it. 6) Try doing as much of your work on a laptop if possible. Typing is so much faster than writing, plus revising notes is a LOT easier when you don't need to rewrite everything. 7) Keep a planner! You don't need to write everything you are going to do every single day (although it helps a ton, I often lose motivation), but make sure you at least keep one to write due dates in. 8) This goes along with being efficient, but gauge the workload for all your classes. Some classes I can skip most days and maintain an A in without trying, while others I have to attend every class and study a lot. 9) Strive for the best and don't settle. The only one stopping you is you! You are capable. Good luck!😘💕
11.16.15 // Study sesh with the boyfriend. 😍 Busy week as finals come closer. I can't wait for the semester to be over and to cuddle up and relax and go sledding and enjoy my month long Christmas break. I've lost a bit of motivation lately, so a little break, then a new start is just what I need!
10.18.15 // Last week I was pretty nervous for 2 exams I had but I got my grades! I got a 95 on my A&P exam and a 104 on my human nutrition exam! People did so terribly that he did an 8 point curve and even then, there were still people who had 30s so that's how I got a 104. I also have all A's for midterm!!! Study smart guys, it's a fresh start for the rest of the semester<3
10.13.15 // I haven't been keeping up with revising and reviewing my notes very well so I'm cramming a bit tonight for an exam tomorrow. Wish me luck!
10.6.15 // Kitty keeping me company this morning while I made a PowerPoint for English. I moved and I'm loving my study space view!
9.29.15 // So I’ve had my first round of exams! 99% on Intro to Stats. 97% on A&P. 92% on Human Nutrition. 96% on Intro to Psych. 94% on A&P Lab. Hard work really pays off! Don’t let yourself study like you did in highschool (unless you did really well). I never studied in HS and didn’t think I was capable of being a straight A student in college. You have to commit yourself and go above and beyond than what you’re asked to do. I hope I can keep it up though. Each semester will only get harder and harder:P
Lucky! I had a 78% off my first college test and i’m in tears
Just keep studying! My advice is to make flashcards if you haven't already. Go through your notes and take every vocab word and make a flashcard. And here's the important part! Instead of just reading your notes, take EVERY bullet point and turn it into a question and answer and put that on a flashcard. Also, use an app or website for flashcards. Hand writing them can be beneficial but it wastes a lot of time and it's better to quickly make them online and spend that extra time studying rather than hand writing every single one. Also study as you go and allow yourself enough time to study all the material. Good luck!

9.4.15 // Free food today! So I have been really annoyed with flash cards. It takes waaaaay too long to write them all out and I don’t like Quizlet either. I discovered an app called Goconqr today that I really like! You have to make all the flashcards online then they sync through the app, but I’m really liking it. It even lets you thumbs up and down different cards so you can sort what you do and don’t know.
9.1.15 // This morning the parking lot was full. Looks like I'm one of the few dedicated commuters to stay on campus. STAY ON CAMPUS! You'll get a lot more done if you get your work done before going home. Btw I'm not using a bullet journal anymore. I just didn't like not being able to plan more into my week. Now I write down what I want to do each day of the week in my planner along with due dates and such. Each day I refer to my planner and I write on a post it a more realistic plan of what I want to do that day and when and put it on the front of my planner. It's made me very productive.
8.28.15 // I can't decide if I love or hate these little cubbies. Anyways I love the feeling of finishing revising your notes and putting it into your binder. *Tip: as you revise your notes make up quiz questions and just stick them into your notes. I write out all my made of questions in orange. I later take all the vocab and questions and put them on flash cards.
8.25.15 // Got to school early and did some revising outside today! I ran into an old friend and we were talking and it was nice but after a while he just would not stop talking. He was talking to me for over an hour and he wouldn’t take any of my cues that I was trying to study. I had to straight up tell him I had to study after awhile. Because of it I didn’t get as much done as I’d like. It’ll be a busy day tomorrow as I try to catch up.😓
