This blog is mostly innactive now but I posted a few memes in the past, so I'll leave it up and maybe toss a few things in the queue to keep it semi-alive! Old gif sets will be removed because I didn't have proper permission from some of the people who made the gifs to edit them- they were all gifs I found years ago on google and, when I made this blog, I was young and stupid and didn't understand that just saying "credit to owner(s)" wasn't enough. I haven't gotten any messages or anything about that, mind you- it's just me wanting to be honest about the missteps I've taken with this blog in the past and to hopefully remind people that it's no okay to icon gifs and post them as a pack if you didn't make the gifs in the first place. What I thought was a helpful little thing was actually a big transgression in hindsight and I apologize.

Did I daydream this, or was there a website for writers with like. A ridiculous quantity of descriptive aid. Like I remember clicking on " inside a cinema " or something like that. Then, BAM. Here's a list of smell and sounds. I can't remember it for the life of me, but if someone else can, help a bitch out <3

1) xkit. if you don’t have this i honestly don’t know how you’re surviving on tumblr. there’s so many add-ons that they have that make everything about rping so so so much easier. you can find them under new xkit. don’t forget, the old xkit is no longer working so make sure you use the new one!
2) threadtracker. if you’re like me, once you draft something to reply about it, you forget it’s even there. so threadtracker is a lifesaver honestly. and now they even had a quickadd browser extension that makes everything even easier. you just pull up your thread, click the little button on your browser and it pulls it right up for you to type in your name of choice and voila all done. you can even stick on starters that you owe, or even replies that you need to do for starters made for you. easy peasy!
3) sessionbox. this is mostly for people with multiple blogs. this little fancy extension allows you to be logged into multiple blogs all in one window. so no more having 500 chrome profiles to be on all your blogs at once. this lets you have them in one window with multiple tabs to make things so much easier. you can name them, give them different colors, and all that good stuff to separate them. it’s honestly a definitely lifesaver too.
4) the email trick. so a lot of people probably know this one. but it’s a quick little trick for making new blogs. instead of having to worry about making a million different email addresses and remembering them all for every single blog you have, you can do a nice little shortcut. all you have to do is take whatever email address you want and add +whatever to it. so, example: [email protected] being your base email and say you’re making a blog for a character named fred, you would make it [email protected] or something along those lines. then you can definitely keep up with the email. and yes, it does still work with the yahoo junk too.
5) stylish. this is a nifty little ad-on that is somewhat similar to xkit, in that you can change the way your dash looks. i have a few things added to it to make my eyestrain less than it normally is with brighter colors tumblr has set up on here. they have a ton of things for tumblr too that you can do to change it. just do a tumblr search and see what they have that you can use.
6) rph blogs and musings blogs. honestly there’s a ton of them. dear-indies is one of my go to blogs for a lot of things. you can find icons, manips, tutorials, and masterlists all over their blog. (masterlists are a great way to get started in a new fandom as well, fyi.) doing a few searches on here will bring up plenty of them if you just take a few moments to look. there’s a ton of resources out there for rpers.
7) f.lux. if you have any eye problems like me then sometimes screens are way too bright no matter how low you have the brightness set. so f.lux is this nifty little thing that dims your screen and gives it a bit of a yellow tint based on the time. it helps make whites not so bright and glaring in your face, especially at night. you can set it up however you want it, to lessen the tint or make it darker. if you’re prone to migraines from screen brightness this thing is amazing. and you can always just switch it off when you’re working on something color sensitive like icons or things like that!
8) mycopper. if you make your own icons and such, but don’t have the time or means to cap your own episodes, this thing is pretty great (i’m actually using it right now). it downloads entire photo galleries in a few minutes. all you do is download it (safe download), go to the gallery you want to download (make sure you’re actually inside the gallery and not in the gallery list), copy and paste the link into my copper (usually has the word thumbnail inside it), choose where you want to save it, and download! it’s really great and definitely easier than going through and saving one by one (which i used to do).
everything above has a link to something that’s either a download or the website for more information except the email trick. that’s all i can think of right now. i’ve been around for awhile and definitely have my dash and rp blogs set up in ways that are easy to navigate and work with thanks to all these awesome resources. ♥

hi i'm sorry to bother you but do you have any tips on giffing dark indoor scenes? yours always look so good!
hi there! not a bother at all :) i can definitely try to explain the steps i usually take under the cut!
this tutorial will assume that you already know the basic steps of gif-making — if you don't, there are lots of great tutorials floating around on this site that can help you out! :)
here's the gif i'll work with to explain my steps, the bottom being the original and the top being the coloured/brightened version.
before we start, a general tip i recommend keeping in mind: if you want to brighten a dark scene, you'll want to get your hands on the highest quality download you can find. 1080p is decent, but if your laptop can handle 2160p 4k hdr files* without sounding like it's about to explode, that'll get you even better results!
(*colouring hdr 4k files requires a different set of steps — the scene will appear washed-out on photoshop, so you need to make sure that you don't end up whitewashing anyone if you do choose to work with this type of file.)
since most of my downloads are 1080p, i'll use this type of file in this tutorial.
the first step of my gifmaking process with 1080p files is almost always the same no matter what scene i'm giffing. i make a brightness/contrast layer and set the blending mode to screen:
now my gif looks like this:
depending on the scene and how washed out it looks after this layer, i'll play around with the opacity. for this gif, i didn't touch the opacity at all. use your best judgement for this, because every scene is different!
i find that dark indoor scenes are usually tinted in yellow or green. one of my first goals is to try to fix the undertone of this scene before focusing on brightening it any further. i go to colour balance for this, and play around with the midtones, shadows, and highlights.
again, every scene is different, so the amount to which you use colour balance will differ, but for this specific scene, my goal was to neutralize the yellow. i focused particularly on the midtones and shadows of the colour balance layer, moving the scales to the opposite of the reds.
doing so will help with neutralizing the yellow. the only reason i moved the scales towards magenta and blue (therefore making it a bit more red than less) rather than green and yellow in shadows was because i wanted a darker contrast in the blacks. moving them to green and yellow made the overall scene more yellow since there were so many dark spots that shadows affected. (you'll see what i mean when you start experimenting with your own gif — this part of the process really just depends on your preferences!)
our gif might not look that much better yet, but it will soon! our best friend channel mixer is gonna help us out. for an in-depth post about how to use this adjustment layer, i recommend checking out this tutorial.
i'm someone who prefers to make more than one layer for the same adjustment layer for a reason i can't even explain (i just find that it helps me stay more organized). so don't think of this process like i can only use this layer once so i MUST fix it NOW. you can create multiple layers of the same adjustment layer, because every layer on top will affect the ones underneath it.
since my priority is getting rid of the yellow tint, i went to the Blue section of the channel mixer and increased it in all of the scales:
this step alone has helped us out so much, because look at our gif now!
not only does the background look less yellow, but so does izzy's skintone.
now i'm going to focus on trying to brighten the scene even more without destroying the quality. the levels layer can actually help out a lot with this.
the amount to which i move each toggle differs per scene, and i think experimenting depending on your gif works best for this layer.
side note: i prefer not to use the ink droppers on the side because the contrast in the result usually ends up feeling too strong for my preferences, but if you find that this works better for you, then go for it! basically, the first dropper with the black ink should be clicked before you select the darkest part of the scene that you can find, and vice versa for the third dropper with the white ink — click it, and then select the brightest part of your scene.
curves is the next layer that does fantastic work! unlike the levels layer, i do actually use the ink droppers for this. it's the same concept, with the first dropper being used on the darkest part of the scene, and the third dropper on the brightest.
try to think of curves as something that not only further brightens your scene, but also helps with the colour neutralizing process.
i grab the first dropper, then click the darkest parts of the gif that i can see. depending on the undertone of the blacks that you're clicking on, the tint of your gif might actually change significantly. this is why i prefer to click once, then undo the action if i don't like what it gives me. izzy's leather jacket was the sweet spot for this gif.
when i'm satisfied, i make another curves layer and use the third dropper to click the bright/white parts of the scene. for this gif in particular, the lights in the background were a good fit because they carried a yellow undertone — this meant that my curves layer actually helped to further neutralize the yellows in the scene as a whole!
(i manually dragged the curves graph upwards for the third dropper to make it brighter. i don't need to do this if the dropper does this for me automatically, but since the lights were pretty bright, it only changed the tone of the scene and didn't increase the brightness — hence the manual step.)
pat yourself on the back, because this is what our gif looks like now!
this is good, but it's not great — there's still just a bit too much yellow in the scene for my liking (sorry, i'm picky! :P)
i created another channel mixer layer and played with the toggles until i was satisfied:
ta-da! the gif as a whole is much less red/yellow now:
this is when i start fixing the colouring now — namely, his skin tone. selective colour will be your best friend here. i wanted to make his face just a tad brighter and less of a yellow-ish magenta shade, so i focused on the reds and yellows.
then, out of habit, i created another selective colour layer and took out more of the "yellow" in the whites to make them whiter, and increased the black (just by +1, since the contrast is pretty good enough already).
note: i switched to "absolute" for these two colours. basically, relative = less vibrant colour manipulation, and absolute = more vibrant/stronger colour manipulation. i prefer to stick to "relative" for fixing skin-tone since "absolute" can be a bit too strong for that.
our gif looks like this now!
his face looks brighter and much less yellow, so i'm satisfied!
this next step is not mandatory at all — again, i'm just picky and despise yellow-tinted scenes. i personally believe that indoor scenes that are yellow/green tinted make them look more dark than they actually are, so i do my best to get rid of these colours.
i also don't always do this, but for this gif, i just simply went to hue/saturation, selected the yellows from the drop-down menu and decreased its saturation.
be careful not to do this too much. depending on the quality of your download, this can significantly decrease your gif quality. i tend to worry less about this when i'm working with 2160p files, but again, those files require an entirely different set of steps when it comes to brightening/colouring.
since this was a 1080p file download (and one that was actually less than 1GB, oops, don't do that), i played it safe and decreased it by -39 only.
note: you also want to be cautious of colour-washing skintone when it comes to this step. i find that another selective colour layer can help perfect the skintone in case the yellow drains out of it too much, but skip the hue/saturation step if it's too difficult to work with — better to be safe than sorry.
anyway, this is the final gif!
that's usually what i do when it comes to colouring dark indoor scenes! i hope this tutorial makes sense, and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to reach out! :)
It’s only tragedy if you convince yourself, for even just a moment, that everything could be ok, despite knowing it won’t be. Tragedy lies in ‘so close, yet so far.’ It’s avoidable because it would only take a tiny alteration to prevent disaster, but human nature is in the way- not maliciously, not knowingly, despite trying so hard.
If it’s just preventable, that’s barely even sad. Why didn’t they prevent it, then? If it’s just inevitable, that’s only marginally better. Why would we weep? Our hopes can’t be dashed on the rocks, we can’t hope.
Every tragedy worth the paper it’s written on could be averted by a single word, a single choice, a single hesitation, but won’t be, because the subjects are only human. Not because they were weak, stupid, or evil- simply human. Their simple humanity makes disaster inevitable.
And in my opinion, the very best tragedy, the very most heartwrenching, comes from the hero making the right decision every time- from their perspective.
It’s when you know you would have done the exact same thing in their shoes, and only because of your perspective as the reader are you able to see what it will cost. That’s what really rocks my socks
When I was studying Narrative at Conservatory, I was taught that it’s not a Tragedy per se unless the Tragic Consequences are the result of the Protagonists choices.
If the cosmos is inflicting suffering on an Innocent, it is a Horror.
If the Protagonist suffers, and deserves it, but is punished by The Narrative rather than by the natural consequences of the Protagonist’s Choices, then it’s a Morality Play.
here is a super helpful website for this kinda thing!
the first result isn’t always the one you’re looking for but when you press enter it’ll give you a ton of words related to your query that’ll probably have what you’re wanting, or something better
Btw highly recommend improv writing from scratch. Entirely from scratch. Not a story you were thinking of before, or a scene to a different story, just completely new story and characters from scratch.
Don't worry about silliness or using wrong words, write down your thoughts as they're coming. And you can return to the improv story whenever the mood might strike you write down anything and everything.
I ended up a new story with characters that already had humour and distinctive personalities right off of the bat and a storyline to go off of, and it'll help me with my skills when it comes to my more serious stories. :>

tips for writing a visibly different/disabled character. this isn't a full list. i'm just angry.
first
what is a visible difference? from changing faces, "a scar, mark or condition on your face or body that makes you look different". facial differences, limb differences, scarring, tumors, skin conditions, spine conditions, facial palsies, eye conditions, certain gaits and ways of moving or swallowing or communicating or acting, etc
a visible difference is not always disabling or because of a disability
and a visible disability can be because of a visible difference or because of the presence of a medical aid or device or symptom. mobility aids, tubes, masks, an eye patch, a limp or tremor, etc
1: do not use words like abnormal, unnatural, strange, horrific, shocking, pitiful, fragile, etc. words like uneven, like "uneven gait", should probably be used carefully. give that a lot of thought. there's probably a better word for what you want to convey that doesn't invoke out of placeness/strangeness. tread carefully with how other characters react to a visibly different/disabled character's appearance. if another character is ableist, like... make that clear. do not make it seem like their ableism is just a neutral thing
2: do not other them for their visible difference in general. they're just a person. their face is just a face and their body is just a body. this is adjacent to "show don't tell" advice i think. their disability is just a part of their body and should be talked about that way
for instance, you would not write "they had a strange way of moving", you would write, just simply, something like "stiffly, they lift their arm". you're not really shooting for good you want neutral. ok? should be treated like hair colors. "their hair is long and dark" = "their eye rolls back as they tilt their head down". "their eyelids flicker, the way they do every time they try to focus them". "their foot twists/drags". idfk. you get the point. neutral language
3: visibly different people may be ashamed and insecure but handle this with care and if you don't think you can do that then don't do it at all. i PERSONALLY am not comfortable with the idea of a person without a visible difference doing this, but
4: i guess i'm not saying you can't have masked characters with facial differences but, you know. like a knight or a fucking, idk, destiny character may have a facial difference under their helmet. but the mask or helmet should not be BECAUSE of the facial difference and should not be treated like a dramatic/shocking reveal when they take off their helmet/mask
5: read this
6: obviously do your research. obviously.
7: again, not all visible differences cause or are caused by disability, and not all visible differences that cause or are caused by disability, or visible disabilities themselves, are immediately recognizable as disabilities. whether or not a character will be able to "tell" another character is disabled (or sick) is dependent entirely on the knowledge that they have.
as an example, most people do not know strabismus (/crossed eyes) causes vision problems or can be caused by neurological disability or eye injury- it's just, like, your face, to people. people may also assume temporary disability/illness or unhealthiness due to lack of care over chronic illness or permanent disability, because they just don't know about chronic illness or permanent disability. a cough can be just as much due to a cold or allergies or tickle in the throat as it can be due to a chronic respiratory disease. (also funny thing, not all coughs are recognizable as coughs. mine is fucking weird)
so a pov character may think someone just has really bad dark circles, is taller or shorter than average, squints or raises one eyebrow a lot as a personal trait, is just really clumsy, or has far apart eyes or a small nose or ears that stick out or a wide forehead. in the same vein, most people won't know why you tilt your head down every time you swallow, or why you put your jacket on the way you do, why you winced or suddenly seemed to just astral project or stumbled or staggered, or why you're always hunched over and move and talk slowly. though all of these are visible signs of disability and illness, most people don't KNOW that and would either rationalize/explain them another way or wouldn't think anything about it at all.
like, i mentioned stumbling or staggering. like, yeah, sometimes people just trip.
or if you walk kind of, like, wobbly or out of pattern, or stumble into something, someone might assume you're under the influence of something, or that you're tired or temporarily sick. or they just won't even think anything about it because it's part of you, whether they know you or not, they know all kinds of people exist and move in different ways. so it's just not even something they come up with an alternate explanation for. like, yeah, x twitches. y loses their balance a lot or walks out of pattern. z's eye is always closer to the bridge of their nose. irrelevant. whatever. anyway let's talk about the dragon
stay completely still until "danger" has passed; i.e. anxiety lessens
listen for something to ground me; e.g. a pet snoring or childhood clock ticking
shouting in fear or rage within the dream wakes me up, and then I lie there wondering if anyone heard me (one time I kept trying to yell while awake until I calmed down)
