What I think the Disney Princess’s Alignments are! (Pt 9)

If need be, I will look into any sequels I need to in order to find out what need about the motives and personality of the character.

Only focusing on the animated characters, not live action.

Just because they’re princesses, doesn’t mean I’m going to automatically make them Good! Some turn to Good in they’re story but not all start out that way. Thinking of Good and Evil as Selfless vs. Selfish behavior.

Tiana: Lawful Good

Tiana is a stickler to the rules, so much so that she comes off as "preachy" at times.

And of course just good as a whole. She sees the good in everyone, even a gator and a firefly.

This one was kind of oblivious.

Mulan: Neutral Good

Mulan is not entirely with the laws and she only actively good against them when she sees how they are effecting others or stopping her from doing what she believes to be good.

Pocahontas: Chaotic Neutral

Pocahontas is the definition of a free spirit. She cares not for the traditions or rules. She truly wild.

Pocahontas tends to lean toward feeding her own curiosity. Her actions inadvertently triggers the discourse between the natives and the colonizers. She does care for her tribe and doesn't want to see anyone hurt, but her main motivation for the movie has was her own curiosity.

Jasmine: Chaotic Good

It's very clear that Jasmine values her freedom and sees an unfairness in the traditions and laws. She constantly refuses to follow these traditions coming across as difficult and stubborn. Plus she clearly has no problem fooling the guards to get away with Aladdin in the market.

Jasmine's actions definitely lean more towards helping others. The only time she helps herself was in the market, but she was only going along with Aladdin's charade. Very impressively I might add.

Some examples of her acting for others are feeding the kid in the market, revealing her status to save Aladdin, and distracting Jaffar for Aladdin, even going as far as kissing him.

Belle: Chaotic Good

Belle's thing is that she doesn't fit in and does things differently. She lives by her own set of rules and is unapologetically herself, despite society finding her odd. In this way, I think Chaotic fits best.

As for Good, the best example is the wolf attack scene. After the fight, Belle has nothing keeping her from escaping, but her compassion causes her to save the Beast from the cold. Belle values helping others over helping herself, so obliviously Good fits.

As my last piece on this, I offer this quote from my second link reference:

"The Chaotic Good character particularly hates seeing people being oppressed by corrupt rules and laws. They are quick to defend those who can’t defend themselves and focus on doing the 'right' thing rather than worrying about the consequences."

For example, the mob scene.

Ariel: Chaotic Evil turned Chaotic Good

First the Chaotic reasoning, then the transition talk. Ariel very much values freedom over rules! She is very against her father as a form of authority and actively seeks to disobey him to do what she wants.

As for the Evil to Good, Evil seems pretty obvious to be me. She wants to see Eric and go to land so badly that she makes a deal with no regard to the consequences of her actions. She is extremely selfish. Not heeding any of the warnings and advice of her friends, in fact going out of her way to ignore them and anyone who goes against what she wants.

It isn't until later on (when it's too late) that she sees what her actions cause that she (quite literally) sees the error of her ways and I believe than the change starts.

Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty: Neutral Evil

I'm basing this to the direct-to-video movie, Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams, considering the base material gives Aurora very little screen time and no personally beside being a daydreaming teenager.

I'd say Neutral in the sense of "does whatever they can get away with". In the Enchanted Tales, she's seen not following the rules, but she doesn't outwardly seek to challenge or defy these rules. She just find her way around them to achieve or get away with what she wants.

As for the Evil part, I mean this more in her decisions, in that for the most part it is for selfish reasons. Even in the original movie she is shown (for what little she is shown) acting selfishly. She cares more about seeing a boy she just met again than she does seeing her family, I mean... come on.

Cinderella: Chaotic Good

Cinderella may be elegant, but she is also headstrong and definitely doesn't follow any societal standards if they don't meet her moral compass. Especially in Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, she is seen trying to fit in to princess standards until she realizes that they don't fit who she is. She ends up doing things her way. Definitely falls under Chaotic! Also for Good, Cinderella was naturally a good person before everything, even in her worse times.

Snow White: Lawful Good

Since Snow White is such a vanilla character, truly a tumbleweed in her own story, I'm really leaning on the "can be counted on to do the right thing as expected by society" part.

The only times she takes insinuative in her own story is: when she rans into the woods, nannies the dwarves, and eats the apple. And the first & last one her decision was either made out of fear or manipulated.

For good part, I think she's just to naïve.

This was a commission I did in 2018. Obviously, I feel like there's room for improvement and I have chosen to review this piece to find some constructive conclusion to the commission.

The character feels like they don't fit the scenery. If I were to fix this, I would probably apply a blue Hue layer over the character to match the background.

The cat however has an opposite effect, almost blending into the grass. To fix this I'd probably sharpen and darken the outline.

The lighting - in general - could be improved upon. There is far too much blue in the picture and a opposing splash of color in the lighting could be a much needed improvement.

Now while I don't see myself redoing this picture unless to challenge myself, I believe it's important to review old artworks for many different reasons.

I challenge other artists out there to try their hand at improving this piece or even redoing it. I look forward to seeing how all you do, so please tag me in some way so I can see your work!!
