If you haven't heard, the em dash has been getting a lot of attention lately…
Because it was trained on pirated work—including freely accessible online writing (like fanfic, academic texts)—ChatGPT picked up patterns and quirks native to human writing.
Including (sigh) the em dash.
There are other victims here (RIP tapestry and delve 🫠), but the appropriation of the em dash—a punctuation mark beloved by writers everywhere—feels especially personal.
A kind of low-grade panic is ensuing. Writers who once memed their own em dash overuse—the greatest punctuation mark ever to grace the control-freak’s lexicon, frankly—are suddenly backing away to avoid accusations.
No. More. We have centuries of dash-abusing writers behind us. We will not sit quietly while AI repurposes our beloved stilted aside—or the just-one-more clarification the sentence demands—or the dramatic pause your comma could never—etc.
You don’t write like AI—AI writes like you.
Defend the em dash.
(Feel free to download/share/stick it where it matters!)
Computa, make these guys supre gay and super horny
A CORPSE BRIDE? SLEEPOVERS!! A GILLIGAN'S ISLAND PARODY? FIGHTING THE WAR ON ALCOHOL (PROBABLY ON THE SIDE OF ALCOHOL)!
Episode titles for Season 18 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia have been published!
THATS RIGHT IT'S SEASON 18 EPISODE TITLES TIME!!!
OK this was MUCH harder than Season 17 (the two extra episodes plus some bigger curve balls), but I have attempted to match the episodes to the writers (and production order) as best I can!
(Green I am highly confident in, yellow I am less certain, and white I am just slotting things in mostly based on vibes)
I've updated the blog post with my thoughts and reasoning for these! Of course, they remain in production code order.. the order they will air in is anyone's guess (probably including RCG lmfao), but I am also pretty sure Frank Marries a Corpse and Dennis and Dee Don't Get Rich will be the double premiere!
Please feel free to add on with your thoughts (or corrections)!!
Any fanon Charden dynamics you dislike? Other than the Manipulative Evil Dennis/ Innocent Baby Charlie cus that one's obvious </3
yeah, that's the big one, all the dead dove whump fics out there where charlie falls victim to dennis' horrible awful treatment of him or whatever.
on the other end of the spectrum are people who think charden is a perfect ship where they implicitly understand each other's eccentricities and are undeniably superior to macdennis as a relationship for both of them. there are certain things they understand within each other, certainly charlie understands dennis better than mac does, but on the flipside, dennis understands mac better than he does charlie. dennis is parental and coddling with him, and he doesn't actually see charlie at all, he just sees himself, and that informs his actions accordingly. sometimes it works out, and whenever they align and are similar, it does feel for both of them like they're understood, but when they differ it's difficult for dennis to grasp and move past that. charden and macden really have to exist simultaneously for things to work with dennis, just as charden and charfrank do for charlie. they all have different strengths, and charden's main strength is that they get to reclaim a stolen childhood, whether dennis is living vicariously through charlie, or they're doing it together. aside from this, most of what dennis can offer charlie is already supplied by frank, but no one else can take charlie's place for dennis.
i think there's this idea that a romantic partner has to be Everything, fill every role and be a perfect fit in every way, but the gang already functions like it does for a reason.
I love this analysis
happy birthday to the giggliest
some charden escaped
closer // dennis
An important aspect of charden is Dennis being absolutely DESPERATE for Charlie's attention at all times.
hey you guys want to know something funny
they only used one take of charlie and glennis kissing. they just spliced in different coverage and used the same shot twice to make it seem longer.
this is the entire kiss
