This is comin' from way out of left field, but do you know much about chemistry? I'd ask around here, but our resident science dorks are MIA.
"U-Um well..electronics are my speciality, but as a matter of fact, I do have considerable knowledge about chemistry, which should be enough to work on inventions" Bright replied. "Iâm a bit curious about your question now, thoughâŚ"
Oh, good. I, ah, was planning on doing something special for the camping trip, so I was gonna set up a little firework show. Not in the forest, but... just where you could see it from the campsite. ... except I know nothing about fireworks other than needing some weird powder for the colors. Which is funny, see, because... I'm supposed to be the explosives guy. Heh.
Question... uh. Burst Man. He's part of your line, right? How much do you know about that chemistry stuff?
Yeah heâs part of my fuckinâ line. I donât know shit âbout chemistry, man, why donât you go ask that little Russian dork?
Because I assumed you'd be more hospitable and because Burst was actually built for that.
Asimov. Whatever. Tryin' to be social and this is what I get.
Seriously?
"Hrph."
Napalm didnât want to hear another word about 057. In fact, just thinking about that wild goose chase made his treads tense. Quick gave him haphazard âordersâ and let Tengu get away before they could even get a look at him. It wasnât the main reason why Napalm had been on edge, but it was one of them.
"⌠nah, forget it. He ainât botherinâ nobody anymore. Anâ Iâm not so much angry at you, itâs just⌠everything else. Idiots. That Shadow guy. Crystal. Working this shit every day.â He glanced down at the far end of the hangar. He hadnât seen it this empty in a long time; only a handful of mechanic units floated around between the pods.âAlmost donât know why I bother anymore.â
"You, ah⌠didnât come to hear me ramble. Anyone else cominâ, or is it just us for nowâŚ?"
Quick knew the feeling, or at least a little bit of it. Having to clean up after the messes of his cousins was something that got to him on a frequent basis. It wasnât exactly the most fun, or least stressful, thing to deal with. He sighed. âYeah, okay. Iâm still sorry, for whatever itâs worth.â
Hesitantly he glanced over his shoulder like maybe thereâd be someone there spying on them or otherwise mucking around. âNah,â his head turned back around, âlooks like itâs just us right now. The others might have headed out earlier, or might be coming later. Me, I like to get to things early. And I know how important this mining operation is.
â.. Not like we have to go together or anything, though. But setting up might go twice as quickly with two of us working.â Heh. Quickly. Because his name was Quick.
"Yeah. Sure. Just... be careful with that kind of thing. We were all mostly pissed at the time. Messed with our judgement." Napalm was silent for a moment, then gladly changed the subject.
"Anyway. Ain't been paying much attention to the net today, but I'm sure that at least one of the Lights will be there for this camping thing. The sooner we're ready for them, the better."Â An open invitation was a great idea for a coverup like this, but 039 certainly wasn't looking forward to interacting with a bunch of brown-nosing civvie bots.
... Oh. Scrap. Wait a minute.
"... ah, what would I... How the hell am I supposed to explain me being on a social trip in the woods? I don't even do nature."
Seriously?
The tank gave little more than a grunt to acknowledge Quick as he subtly covered up the rifle and bagged the last of his equipment. For a robot that was usually so militaristic, the bag was very unorganizedâŚ
"I sâpose so. Where the troops go, I go." He hefted the bag up under his arm, obviously not paying any mind to where his launcher arms were bumping against. He paused a moment.
"Erm. Theyâre duds. Just aesthetic. âM not going to bring live firebombs out into a forest. Had the Joes take some of my stock out to the outpost already."Â
"Yeah the last time that happened half of it burnt down, so.." Quick for a second felt like asking if he needed a better set of hands for something, but then remembered how that tended to be a touchy subject for some robots, and refrained. "So I guess we really are supervising these guys then? Look uh, Iâm sorry about what happened with Tengu. And, well, you, as a result. But maybe we can sort of get off to a fresh start?" He felt like offering his hand but, again. Sensitivity.

dwn40crystalsight replied to your post:"Please donât anger my brother, heâs older than me, but still childish."
"I know, but heâs quite explosive and Iâd rather not clean after him."
Explosives are useless when they canât hit their target, man. Just sayinâ.
"True, I suppose itâs fine then, if he does do extensive damage tell me, and I will put him in his place."
You guys are hilarious. Really. Iâm beside myself with laughter.
Iâm looking forward to this trip. At least I can get away from you two.
Turbo. Shut up and have some goddamn tact.
Might just be me, but I can actually respect a human that puts themselves in the middle of something like that.
Just âcause we do this kind of thing and survive with a few scratches donât mean these guys can. They got some serious guts.
Hey, you know what you should respect? My ass.
So mature. Fuck off before I give you more than just a broken headlight. I'm in less of a mood than potbelly is.
Youâre not only disrespecting mine, but Albertâs parents. Â If not for the Allied forces, Albertâs parents wouldâve died in a concentration camp, and you wouldnât even exist. Â You should be ashamed of yourself. Â Go ahead and tell him your little jokes and see what he says. Â âHey, Dad, your parents were Polish refugees who were almost killed by Nazis but I donât give a shit, because Iâm a conceited little prick at the center of the fucking universe!â Â Say it to his face. Â I dare you.
Shit, man, I can feel your face turninâ purple from here. Try to insult me some more, old man, this is fuckinâ hilarious.

Seriously?
Napalm was, predictably, where he usually was in the barracks, but given the recent troop movement, the hangar was unnaturally empty, with Dr. Wily having moved his troops to the basin to prepare the outpost. It gave 037 a little unexpected time to himself, and to mentally and physically prepare himself for the upcoming assignment.
After all, if the doctor wanted the area defended, who better to station there than a tank, right?
Except that said tank had been at his wits end for the better half of the last month for various reasons. Maybe this would be good for him; taking some time to relax a bit⌠well, in close proximity with at least one of the idiots that had been on his nerves, probably. Maker. He wasnât even sure if he should go. Heâd make everyone uncomfortable.
He had a rather large duffell bag packed, regardless. Just the necessities; remote charging pack, maintenance kit, armor wax⌠an EMP shock rifle with laser-point radar attachment rolled up under a blanket. Just in case.
Quickâs third eye noted Napalmâs activity, and the speed-bot was up and on his feet to greet him promptly. When he entered the hanger he was actually surprised to find him packing. Even the most respectable of the fifth-gen was reduced to the task, it seemed.
"Uh, Napalm." He gave a little wave. "Hey. You uh, youâre heading out to this thing too? I was sure that uh, I mean if I wasnât.. yâknow, being stationed in the mines, surely you would have been.â Aaaand awkward. He rubbed the back of his head.

"Of all the shit I have to put up with this has got to be the worst,â Quick grumbled as he polished up a camera to attach to Speed, âI mean I could have been in the middle of the mining operations but instead Iâm stuck hosting this little.. this stupid camping trip like some kind of lackey!â The pipi held quite still as the camera was attached, then swooped around to follow Quick as he stormed out into the second-gen common room. The red robot flopped, leaned his head on his hand, then growled to himself as the little robotic bird perched themself in his lap. With a scoff he rolled his eyes and gave them distracted, mindless petting. âAt least you get me, Speed. You donât really want to be out there with all those non-Wilybots either.â
The pipi simply sat and closed their eyes, silently recording from their fin-cam as Quick continued stroking their headfin and wings. âI just hope it isnât too boring,â Speed heard him say.
Quick sighed as he thought about it, then lifted the little pipi up and held them in the air until they took off to make rounds about the fortress. âGo on, go see whoâs still here. We gotta rally the troops, so-to-speak.â

"NapalmâŚDo I need to intervene and keep an eye on you?"
No no no no. Issac Asimov, no. I donât need a babysitter.
dwn40crystalsight:
"Brother please, theyâre not even worth being called maggots, I worry over how angered you get."
Hrmph. Don't need to be worried about anything, Crys. I can control my temper just fine.

"Stop making threats Napalm."
I will. Soon as these maggots stop pissing me off.
Thereâs so much wrong with that reply, I donât even know where to begin.
First of all, stop being so damn hostile. I just asked a question.
> Second, I donât personally give a ratâs ass where you âbelongâ, but Iâm sure youâre not so dense that you missed whatâs been going on the last few months. My advice? Get over yourself and figure out where your allegiance is.

"Fourth, why did you even bother asking me?
Fifth, why are you even looking at me?
And sixth, âGâ I wish you get the âHâ outta my face.â
Oh, youâre hilarious. I was curious about the status of a fellow DWN, is that offensive to you?
I should just track down your net frequency and crush you into paste just because I need to blow off some steam. But I have more constructive use for my time. Have fun rusting.
patriotbomber039 said: Just out of curiosity. Why -did- you leave in the first place?
"Why does everyone keep asking me that? I donât belong anywhere on this planet, and if you say that I belong in the fortress, Iâll hunt you down and shove a shadow blade someplace where you canât reach for it."

How many hours a day do you work? Do you take some time for yourself?
Napalm had been putting that question off for several weeks now, but he knew how to reply. The answer was simple. He never took time off. The hours that were left after troop upkeep were spent recharging or training. Even when he stepped out for a break or just time in the firing range, the tank was constantly double-checking progress and his own systems. It wasn't doing his sanity, or his patience, any favors.
My time is spent being productive. Keeping this place and our creator safe. I'm probably the only one here that can keep those guns working. An' I can guarantee I'm the only one of these bots that knows how the Joes operate.
We can't afford less, not anymore. If some purist, anti-machine, ex-military nuts come knocking on our door, you know why they won't get within a hundred yards.

Oh, sorry, I must not have been clear.
Don't talk shit about the doctor.
