Hi i'm gonna start uni this year and i have no idea how to prep for it! excersise books or looseleaf? ipad or laptop? ahhhh what do you recommend what to do to prepare
Hey! I personally love loose leaf - mainly the Arc Notebook from Staples compared to other systems but the Maruman Kurufit Binder is a pretty good alternative. Especially if you like the system but perhaps want something smaller. For me, exercise books always present issues after you’ve used them - e.g. doesn’t lay flat and had that wave in the middle making it hard to write, maybe its too small and uncomfortable (what I found with a lot of A5 notebooks, etc). When I found the Arc, I thought it was genius and I’ve used it for 4 years now! I love that I only need to take the current work and don’t have carry a years worth of work just because it’s in that notebook! I can then take the page out and put them in my proper binder for that year/class/etc. It is just much easier!
As for laptop vs iPad, that is a call I can’t make for you but can share my opinion! For me and my degree, I couldn’t only rely on the iPad. I feel having the iPad and computer was best - I could leave my heavy laptop at home and use the iPad more for digital writing! I however definitely couldn’t do or would be reluctant to do heavy research and essay writing on the iPad - it would just be overly complex, not having a mouse, etc. My recommendation is to try to get as much information as you can about what you’ll be doing and potentially the activity you’d need the iPad for. As a supplementary piece, I think it is very helpful and worth having if you can. I definitely don’t regret using it but feel had I bought it as my only device when I first started university, I would have needed to get a laptop quickly after. I have this post with all my other posts about iPads so you can have a nosey around :-)
Here are some other supplies I’d recommend - obviously, pick ones out to suit you!
a backpack - the best solution for carrying around a lot of things! I tried going with a shoulder bag on my first day and it was the worst thing ever!!!! Never again will I do that to myself! Get yourself a sturdy backpack with strong straps! You, your back and your shoulders will thank me later!
a 4 ring binder (and plastic sleeves) - any brand will do really! I would recommend getting one per subjects since it saves running out of space if you try to fit things into one. It is also sometimes cheaper to purchase several at once!
notebooks - I use a single Arc Notebook for all my subjects and love it. I find it easier to have a single notebook with dividers, rather than carrying several individual books. However any notebook(s) would be fine. You can decide if you’d like spiral, A4/A5/B5, etc.
planner - this can be any you like or even digital version! I tend to go for smaller planner if I’m actually taking it to uni. I am currently using one of my digital planners and the Hobonichi A6 planner. Before all my planners have been super thick and just annoying to take to uni. So being able to have an A6 planner and then one on my iPad makes it really easy. Here are some recommendations of physical planners!
pens - I would recommend getting a pack with a selection of colours. I usually recommend the Staedtler 432 pens since they’re well priced, easily accessible and come in packs. They don’t smear and have worked well for me. Other pens I like are the Pilot G2, Staedtler Triplus Fineliners, Zebra Sarasa, Muji Gel Pens. Obviously, you don’t need a million different packs!
highlighters - I use the cool, warm and light packs of the Zebra Mildliners. They’re nice but not the be all and end all. I’ve used the Stabilo Swing Cool in the past and they were good! I do really like the Pastel versions of the Stabilo Boss - they’re really pretty colours! I think having a selection that matches your pens is so helpful when you’ve organised a colour code.
pencil case - I only take a few pens to uni so my pencil is only small. I don’t think it’s necessary to take a huge pencil case so just any will be okay! I previously used a muji clean one but it makes a nice in my bag so I recently got a Bellroy grey one! It is a bit more professional so I can use well into the future.
etc - this goes for sticky notes, page flags, etc! I love to-do list pads and post-it notes to help keep me organised!
printables - I’ve uploaded a few to my Tumblr and some more to my Etsy! (You can use ‘student10’ to get 10% off any purchase!). I do have a large selection of ones that could be really useful to start university with!
I hope this helps! xx
Since I hit my latest goal on patreon, I can now post longer comics on Saturdays. When I reach my next goal, I can add even more things to the project. If you want to help, you can pledge for just 1$ here, and in exchange, you’ll get access to a completely different project where I attempt to create the coziest/warmest art collection on the internet.

save some money because we are all broke students
Are you too completely broke after spending all your money on Urban Outfitters, your Spotify subscription, that new MacBook for the (overpriced) Studyblr Aesthetic ™?
I recently graduated high school, and now, as a student, I can finally get my account at UNiDAYS. It’s a platform with discounts on basically everything - from the Financial Times to a cute little French Lifestyle Subscription Box I found recently. (Apparently the one for September is focused on weekly planning and stationery!!)
It’s helped me to save money immensely - for example with the 50% student Spotify discount. I’ve also planned to get a new tablet soon - both Apple and Microsoft offer discounts as well.
All you need to do is register here with your university email.
If you’re not in university yet - or already done - please share so other studyblrs can benefit from it!

going thru phone pics and found this thing that was tacked up next to the toaster at my old job, if anyone needs some light toast eating reading material
Would anyone be kind enough to transcribe this or link to a text version?
Everything Is AWFUL and I’m Not Okay: Questions to Ask Before Giving Up on Yourself
Are you hydrated?
If not, have a glass of water. Dehydration can mimic or increase feelings associated with anxiety and a well hydrated brain functions optimally. Avoid excess caffeine.
Have you eaten in the past three hours?
Don’t be a victim of hanger! Get some food–something with protein, not just simple carbs or high-fat. Nuts, hummus, and veggies are great options to feed your studying brain. Keep healthy snacks within reach to avoid mindlessly chowing down on sweets.
Have you stretched your legs in the past day?
If not, do so right now. If you don’t have the energy or time for a run or a trip to the gym, just walk around the block or building. Even minimal exercise preps the mind for learning so that you can focus better and recall things easier, plus it’s good to get a change of scenery.
Have you said something nice to someone in the past day?
Do so, whether online or in person. Make it genuine! We bet your study partner would appreciate a compliment.
Have you moved your body to music in the past day?
If not, jog for the length of a song at your favorite tempo, or just dance around your bedroom for the length of an upbeat song (singing along is a bonus)
Have you cuddled a living being in the past two days?
If not, do so. Don’t be afraid to ask for hugs from friends of friends’ pets. Most of them will enjoy the cuddles too; you’re not imposing.
Have you started or changed any medications in the past couple of weeks, including skipped doses or a change in generic prescription brand?
That may be screwing with your head. Give things a few days, then talk to your doctor if it doesn’t settle down.
If daytime: are you dressed?
If no, put on clean clothes that aren’t PJs. Give yourself permission to wear something special, whether it’s a funny t-shirt or a pretty dress.
If nighttime: are you sleepy and fatigued but resisting going to sleep?
Put on PJs, make yourself cozy in bed with a teddy bear and the sound of falling rain, and close your eyes for fifteen minutes while focusing on breathing deeper with every breath- no electronic screens allowed! Adequate sleep is a necessity for stress management.
Do you feel ineffective?
Pause right now and get something small completed, whether it’s responding to an email, loading the dishwasher, or tidying up your room. Good job!
Do you feel unattractive?
Take a darn selfie. Your friends will remind you how great you look. You are always insta-worthy.
Do you feel paralyzed by indecision?
Give yourself ten minutes to sit back and figure out a game plan for the day. If a particular decision or problem is still being a roadblock, simply set it aside for now, and pick something else that seems doable. Right now, the important part is to break through that stasis, even if it means doing something trivial.
Have you over-exerted yourself lately–physically, emotionally, socially, or intellectually?
That can take a toll that lingers for days. Give yourself a break in that area, whether it’s physical rest, taking some time alone, or relaxing with some silly entertainment for a little. Time spent refreshing yourself is never time “wasted!”
Have you waited a week?
Sometimes or perception of life is skewed, and we can’t even tell that we’re not thinking clearly, and there’s no obvious external cause. It happens. Keep yourself going for a full week, whatever it takes, and see if you still feel the same way then.
You’ve made it this far; and you will make it through. You are stronger than you think.
“En cuanto a mí, estoy haciendo un gran esfuerzo para funcionar, pero tengo una sensación tan aguda de inexistencia, de muerte, de que he sido definitivamente mutilada de lo que era mi sustento y de que me estoy convirtiendo en algo que todavía no sé qué es pero será infinitivamente más pobre y más triste de lo que era antes.”
— Rosario Castellanos
How to start again ✨
delete apps and social media that lowers your mood
wear a new scent, throw away things you don’t need, delete contacts of people who make you feel unworthy, unfollow social media that makes you feel bad in any way
make a new playlist that makes you feel confident and happy
in a journal, write down why you want to change, the traits of the person you truly want to be, the places you want to go and people that make you feel inspired
write down the things that stop you and bad habits you have, and replace those with new mindsets and habits
before you sleep, make a detailed, achievable routine for the next day, that includes everything you want to do, including activities that genuinely make you happy
try new hobbies, like baking/cooking, playing a musical instrument, making art, learning a new skill, a sport, or a new language. you can easily get free resources online
think about the ideal version of yourself. you can be like that, if you try your best and work hard.
do not overwork yourself or set overly lofty daily goals and forget to do things like drink water. make your sleep and health your number one priority.
spend less time on your phone scrolling through social media. have a method of focusing on other things, like Pomodoro method or using the Forest app.
if you can’t concentrate, commit yourself to doing it for 5 minutes. once you get into the flow it’s much easier to concentrate.
be patient and kind with yourself. it’s hard to change overnight. you’re the only one who can help change you, so be a friend to yourself.
once you start something, promise yourself you will finish it.
have new weekly routines, like going to a cafe every Wednesday afternoon or indulging in your favourite tv show every Friday night.
do not deny yourself of good things; there needs to be a balance. similarly, do not be too generous and overdo it too much.
dedicate a day to clean your room and organize your things if you feel stressed out.
it may feel scary to change, as you may feel like it’s not the real you. but you’re still you, just the best version of yourself.
have a relaxing morning routine to look forward to, like making a nice breakfast, having a skin care routine, stretches, journalling, or thinking about nothing for a few minutes
have a mental image that makes you excited to do something. visualize yourself completing the goal and concentrate on it every morning.
however, learn not to rely on motivation because your brain will often turn off motivation, especially when you first begin something. have a routine, a specific time to do something, and do it.
notice the places and people that drain your energy, and try to avoid them. find people who make you feel energized and places that calm you.
think about an enjoyable part of something. for example, when studying you can look forward to learning new things and when exercising, listening to calming music or using nice stationery. it’s actually more fun than you think.
even though it’s hard, don’t compare yourself. you’re on your own path, and it doesn’t matter if people are better than you, because there will always be someone better than everyone. don’t be afraid to suck. so draw badly, write bad poems, run slowly, make embarrassing mistakes and fail everything. you can’t be good at something unless you’re terrible at something first. and doing anything badly is so much better than doing nothing.
don’t tell anyone about your new beginning, just start and let the results speak for themselves.
you can change and be your ideal self. but it will be hard to do that if you don’t believe in yourself. so make sure you challenge negative thoughts telling you can’t do something. tell yourself firmly that you can do it and then prove your negative thoughts wrong.
ways to start feeling again
sit in the sun without anything to do, feel the heat of the rays hit your skin, realize that this sunlight has travelled a very long way to reach you
walk around barefoot and try to feel as much of the ground under your feet as you can, notice every rock and blade of grass
sit quietly for a while and notice the touch of breath in your nostrils, feel how the air gets cooler as you inhale and warmer as you exhale
drive around aimlessly and blast some of your favorite songs, scream/sing along to them and feel the vibrations of your favorite lyrics as they change the air in your throat and around you, feel that the music is healing you from the inside out
stay away from alcohol or drugs for a few days, try to be as aware and present as you can in every moment, stop trying to numb or dull your senses
eat a few meals without any distractions, notice every bite and taste every flavor that covers your tongue, be grateful for it all
look up at the stars and the moon, understand how small we all are and how immense the universe is, realize what a miracle everything is, let your heart swell with amazement and admiration for life itself
ok this is actually cool bc doing all of this is a technique called “mindful thinking” that is extremely useful for people with anxiety disorders and dissociation disorders and stuff!
Coping Statements for Anxiety
It is often possible to manage anxiety by actively replacing irrational thoughts with more balanced and reasonable thoughts like the following:
1. I’m going to be OK. Sometimes my feelings are irrational and false. I’m just going to relax and take things easy. Everything is going to be fine.
2. Anxiety may feel bad but it isn’t dangerous. There’s nothing wrong with me. Everything is going to be OK.
3. Feelings come and feelings go. Right now I feel bad but I know this is only temporary. I’ve done it before so I can do it again.
4. This image in my head isn’t reasonable or rational. I need to change my thinking and focus my attention on something that’s healthier, and generally helps me to feel good about myself. For example _____________.
5. I’ve managed to interrupt and change these thoughts before – so I know I can do it again. The more I practise this, the easier it will become. Anxiety is a habit – and it’s a habit that I can break!
6. So what if I anxious. It’s not the end of the world. It’s not going to kill me. I just need to take a few deep breaths and keep going.
7. Just take the next step. Just do the next thing.
. Even if I have to put up with a period of anxiety, I’ll be glad that I did, and persevered, and succeeded.
9. I can feel anxious and still do a good job. The more I focus on the task at hand, the more my anxiety will ease, then disappear.
10. Anxiety doesn’t have a hold on me. It’s something I’m working on, and changing over time.
