TWD writers, smashing random LGBT characters together: THIS IS THE REPRESENTATION, CORRECT? THIS IS HOW IT WORKS? WE ARE SO GOOD AT THIS ALLY SHIT.
TWD writers, mindlessly killing said LGBT characters: THATS ENOUGH REPRESENTATION FOR ONE DAY, GOOD WORK GUYS
TWD writers, splitting up LGBT relationships left, right and centre: RECOVERY WHO? GRIEVING WHAT? WE WILL JUST PUT THEM WITH THE ONLY OTHER LGBT PERSON AVAILABLE. THATS WHAT LGBT PEOPLE DO RIGHT? YEAH? GO US.
Al/Dillon, the saviour: well jesus, I'm no angel

Significance of Jesus at Sanctuary
Once again want to reiterate how significant it was that they had Jesus
1) Be at the sanctuary to begin with
2) Stay at the sanctuary specifically for Daryl
3) Witness Daryl beating fat Joey to death. And Jesus is taken aback. But it’s not out of horror or judgment for what Daryl is doing/has done. It’s for Daryl himself. Jesus is concerned for him. He is taken aback about the horrible condition Daryl is in and what he’s been driven to do. Daryl is in a complete frenzy in that moment- he seems outside of himself, almost unaware.
4) And Jesus has the most…perfect response he could ever have. He says Daryl’s name- not loud or demanding, just trying to gently capture his attention. And when it doesn’t work the first time, Jesus repeats it a little softer. And then Daryl sees him, he doesn’t see someone looking at him like he’s a monster or a threat or a pawn in some game. He sees someone who obviously cares, who is there for him and making sure he’s okay.
5) And let’s think about this for a minute: Jesus saw how Negan treated Daryl but he still has no idea what Daryl has been through, not totally. Therefore, he doesn’t know if Daryl has been brainwashed or gaslighted. Even with him killing Joey, it doesn’t prove he’s on the same side as Jesus. There’s still no way of knowing how aware Daryl is in that moment and if he could hurt someone else. AND their first meeting wasn’t exactly flowers and hugs. But Jesus doesn’t look scared of Daryl. He doesn’t think Daryl is going to attack him. He knows better. And Daryl sees that reflected when he looks at Jesus.
5) Jesus is there to WITNESS what likely amounts to Daryl’s lowest moment. He’s been through the worst trauma he’s likely experienced since he was a child. He’s filthy. He’s completely vulnerable. He’s alone, separated from his family, those who love him the most. And it’s not Rick that brings him back. It’s not Carol. It’s Jesus.
For no other reason than they made it be Jesus.
It’s just so special.
THEY CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH

Okay, I’m putting my shipper goggles on for a small breakdown of this GIF/moment.
To someone else, this just looks like Daryl being annoyed and frustrated that this man keeps being thrown on him.
But, look a little bit closer.
Every time Jesus landed on him, he’d look at Rick. He’d examine Rick’s reaction to Jesus laying on him.
Every. Single. Time.
It’s ESPECIALLY noticeable here. It’s like he’s looking for Rick’s approval, or something.
Every time I watch this scene, I think back to what Norman said about Daryl being a “prison gay” in a rather dated interview.
When Daryl is confronted with the idea of being gay, he gets all awkward and off-putting. That’s what Reedus meant by “prison gay”.
So, I think if Rick weren’t there, he’d be fine with Jesus laying on him.
He seemed to be mulling it over, here, too.
I mean, just look!
That’s my opinion, anyway. Feel free to add any other thoughts!
And the fact that how concidental that the day Daryl meets Jesus is that day that Rick hooks up with Michonne and the next day, for the first time in a long time, Daryl is finally asked about relationship(by Abraham abt settling down) . Its all suspicious and subtle.
Exactly! Let’s also not forget how strange and twitchy Daryl is when he’s around the other man. I’ve NEVER seen him act so weird around another stranger before! He’s NEVER jumpy around someone who could be a threat. He’s always up in their face or staring all menacingly. With Jesus, he stumbles around like he doesn’t know what to DO with himself. His eyes flicker all over the place. There’s also the scene where he looks away all quickly and awkwardly when they make eye contact. Daryl has never done that before! It’s hard NOT to look into it.
Okay, so I just rewatched that said scene bc I wasn’t sure if he didn’t just look away from Jesus, because Abraham said smth (cause he sits right next to daryl on an armchair). But no. It’s rlly just Daryl quickly and awkwardly looking away from Jesus. Which is pretty ooc of him. But maybe it isn’t and there’s actually smth behind it. You rlly have to rewatch 6x11 and focus on daryl. He does act different. Could be bc they’re at Hilltop, a place he doesn’t know, or it could also be bc of said scout.
all of the above.
I live for these kinds of posts
Lots of people seem to forget that he grew up in Backwoods Georgia, in a heavily conservative/close-minded household. That kinda upbringing is toxic as hell, but we’ve seen him growing out of that mindset through the course of the show. We’ve also seen him regressing back into that from time to time, but it never lasts long.
And then this asshole comes along and throws everything in a tilt-a-whirl.
Suddenly, he’s got all these feels for this guy and it’s probably confusing as hell for him, which would explain his outbursts and how he acts around Jesus. It’ll be interesting to see where they go with this in the following season(s)…even if it means we all crash and burn at the bottom of the Queerbaiting Chasm.
I was just rewatching some episodes and I thought his behavior was exceptionally unexpected when Jesus first tells them about the saviors. Daryl is pacing around he jumps into the conversation and boldly tells Jesus that the saviors ain’t nothin, just got a boogie man story. He is visibly excited about what he thinks the Alexandria group can offer and he’s actually bouncing on his feet ready to tell Jesus they can help. The very same guy who not even 2 episodes before he was threatening to leave up a tree. Daryl dossent offer up his family for a fight just any old day. Throughout that entire scene Daryls behavior is out of place both for his charachter and for the scene. No one else is responding the way Daryl does. Rick watching Daryl and Jesus shrugs and tells Jesus confrontation isn’t a problem for them. In any normal situation Rick and Daryls behavior would be reversed. Rick laying out the deals and ready to fight Daryl solemnly nodding that he agrees off to the side. They gave Daryl this moment , brought him to the forefront. I don’t know someone who’s better at film breakdowns should really dissect that scene for us because it’s loaded with interesting body language and out of charachter decisions.
Just by that description, it’s very “I wanna impress this guy” vibes. Going back and re-watching it, from my perspective, it’s one part that and one part “WTF are you doing, self?” vibes. Like, he wants Jesus to know what he, and everyone else, are capable of, but his internal monologue is probably throwing up some red flags (“what’re you doing? what? no. stop. shut up. shut up right now. urgh.”). It’s kinda not a surprise that he disappears after that, neither is his closed off body language at the end of the episode.
Yes to all of this. 610 cracked me up because it was like “Daryl, why are you THIS PETTY right now?” His behavior was so ott schoolyard flirting. If Jesus had pigtails, Daryl would’ve been pulling them. And then we get a full 30 second scene at the end of the episode of him just watching Jesus sleep. I mean wtf?! Why?? He had to deliver water and a cookie? Except he DIDN’T though. And even if they did have him bring the stuff, that took all of two seconds and the rest was just….watching him sleep. And then Jesus outsmarts him again by escaping his guard, and staring at him with a little smirk. And Daryl’s reaction is to basically jump around like an excited puppy and be all “I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!!”
Oh god and that super underrated moment when Jesus is telling them about the Hilltop and Daryl like “casually” rests his arm on a random shelf IN THE WEIRDEST, MOST AWKWARD WAY IMAGINABLE. Someone with giffing skills really needs to link that gif bc it was like “Daryl what the hell are you doing?” The body language was so….weird and out of place for how Daryl normally acts.
And let us not forget that Norman talked about how awkward Daryl would be with a love interest. He’s not experienced and all that. Now ask yourself: have we ever seen Daryl act this way around any other character on the show?
This might be my favorite post ever.
Daryl & Jesus -> “Ain’t a prick no more.”
I’m such desus trash, help. I tried a new style and I’m rlly fucking proud of how it turned out. I’ve to keep myself busy till october and drawing desus fanarts is a great way of doing so.
Daryl: Why's your back all scratched?
Jesus: *flashback to him chasing a raccoon after Daryl told him to leave it alone* I'm having an affair.
Daryl: It was the raccoon, wasn't it?
Jesus, after a long pause: Yeah.
let me be gay AMC
Pretend he’s Jesus at a big party that the Hilltop, Alexandria, and the Kingdom are throwing and he’s trying to find Daryl. “Daryl?” “Where’s Daryl?” “Has anyone seen Daryl?” “He said he’d be here.” “Where the fuck is Daryl?” “I’m gonna go find Daryl.” “Daryl.”
I was disappointed at Comic-Con to find virtually NO Jesus merch. AMC hasn’t released any official Paul Rovia shirts or anything. I got the funko pop and the only two Jesus drawings at all of C2E2 but I was still bummed and so I complained about it to my artist friend @youremyfanart. She said she could put her Tom Payne drawing on a shirt for me. It came in the mail yesterday and I’m so happy. Thankyou for humoring me and my most recent obsession, side note Mind gamers a movie Tom was in just came out finally and it’s amazing. Beautifully done very interesting , some REALLY good writing, y all should check it out if you like philosophy and human consciousness. All the science in it is 100 percent certifiably real.
