2013 Larry

Some could say 2012 was the golden era for Larry Stylinson, and I agree, but I have always felt like 2013 was the worst time for the boys.  I have some sad theories about 2013 that I thought I would share.  I think with This Is Us being filmed, and management cracking down after everything that happened after 2012 with Haylor and such, the boys were actually forced apart.  I do not think they were officially together most of this year, despite wanting to be.  I think they were together when they could be, but this year Harry started staying with friends often (thus Ben Winston’s story was born)  and really doing his own thing apart from the band.  He showed signs of jealousy and sadness more often than Louis, as was seen that time he threw a football at the back of Eleanor’s head:

This was also the year that Harry wrote a staggering number of songs, all with the same themes of longing and separation.  He wrote Don’t Let Me Go (self-released without 1D), Two Ghosts (saved for solo career), Happily, Something Great, Just A Little Bit of Your Heart (given to Ariana Grande), and possibly, I Love You (given to Alex and Sierra).  Every single one of these songs is about being in love with someone you cannot be with and hoping the one you love doesn’t let go of the love you have, and/or the overcoming obstacles to be with that lover.  

Several songs have imagery of separation.

“We were meant to be but a twist of fate made it so you had to walk away” - Happily

“The script was written and I could not change a thing I want to rip it all to shreds and start again” - Something Great

Another common theme in his songs is the idea of sleeping or being together in a bed, as if night was the only time they were truly allowed to be together since they had to hide from the public, limit interaction on stage, and avoid each other in front the cameras.

“I don’t care what people say when we’re together You know I wanna be the one to hold you when you sleep” - Happily

“One day you’ll say these words I thought you’ll never say You say we’re better off together in our bed” - Something Great

In addition to Harry writing these six songs, Louis wrote Strong, which contained quite a lot of similarities.  There are some other things about these songs that I want to save for an in-depth analysis of all of Harry and Louis’ lyrics throughout their time together in 1D and their solo careers, because the strong reoccurring symbolism and corresponding themes are overwhelming.  That post will take quite some time to put together.

That same year, when Harry wasn’t writing songs that clearly expressed what he was going through, he took the opportunity to show his love for Louis by serenading him and/or changing lyrics as often as possible.  One clear example was the end of 2013 on 1D Day when Harry sang all of Little Things without taking his eyes off Louis, and possibly changed the lyrics to “and all his little things.”  These moments were Harry’s small acts of rebellion an declarations of love.  He knew on stage or being filmed live that he could not be stopped or censored, while he may have suffered the consequences later.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate 2013 Harry. || Okay, this post could have been much longer, but 2013 is so sad that I will just leave this here as is.  That being said, don’t be sad.  2014 was a lot better:
