By the time Paulo got to his apartment, Adrian was already a drink deep. He’d pulled the whiskey out from the back of his cabinet, the bottle he knew his dad had hid there for the next time he showed up. Adrian always pretended not to notice the legal things his father left behind, ignoring the reminders of the man that didn’t care for him at all, but they never really escaped him. Adrian didn’t think he could stand being in his apartment alone. He had barely been back since Aurora and him had started to get serious. It had just felt so right to spend every free second with her. Even if getting crossfaded was what he had to do to not be alone, Adrian would do it. He needed a distraction - anything that could even remotely take his mind off of the memory of Aurora’s tear filled eyes when he left her.
They’d made their way to the bar down the street, Adrian reluctantly leaving Torch in the apartment, briefly wondering if he should have left the dog at Aurora’s. Adrian raised his hand at the bartender, ordering another round of shots for them. “Why aren’t there more people here? What if we all die tomorrow, shouldn’t everyone be getting fucked up out of their mind?”

“Dude, nah. We aren’t doing small talk until after you tell me what exactly is going on in that head of yours. You look lost between taking a dump or throwing a few punches.” The night was already off to a stat, given how shitty the weather was, which only matched the vibe he was feeling from his friend. There was always so much going on, that he never truly knew what was up, or if Adrian was giving him the entire story. Not that he needed details, no, his loyalty to him was blind and unyielding. “Pound two more of those and then launch into the story so I know what we’re dealing with, and while you do, I’m gonna spark this up, because the bartender ain’t gonna say shit after what I slid them earlier.” There was no shyness in his boasting, or ego. He simply knew how to work others into allowing what he wanted, and the proof was in between his fingers. The smooth white paper reeked of only the highest of quality kush. “Picked this up earlier. Chick said I’d be feeling good, but also ready to smack some heads together. They call it the Smash.” Turning it from finger to finger, he offered it out with a raised brow. They were there to have fun, to fuck off and not be in their heads. This was Paulo’s way of assuring that happened. Pausing to give Adrian a chance to reflect, Paulo grabbed his shot and the one next to it and pounded them one after another.
