Aftermath.
Everything hurt.
Pride. Body. Burns and sore muscles. The smoke billowed up, the fire reached higher, for the stars in the dark sky. Flame wanting to touch flame.
Soon, when the sirens neared and the building was all too gone to be saved, all that was left was memories and the unspoken promise, a debt to be payed. Another job completed.
When they broadcast the news of a fire in Williamsburg there would be no trace or clue as to what or why. Most importantly - who.
Just another fire.
Debris.
Falling from high. What was once intact was now falling apart. Heavy pieces crashing to the ground, narrowly avoiding anyone inside, or anything. Pieces of equipment and paperwork are consumed by the fire, helping it travel faster.
The bright crown sits atop the building roof. It illuminated the neighborhood. For anyone who was close enough to see, to smell, to hear, the fire was very much alive.
The flames were high enough now to reflect against the water of the East River, perhaps they might even see it from the other side, the populous lower Manhattan with all its bright lights.
Or perhaps no one would notice. Not like they did.

More shots were firing around them and Gabriel could hear Darcy’s voice in his ear. There was too much going on, he couldn’t focus, he needed to buy them time-
your surroundings, where do you need to be?
-they’re everywhere where in the room do you need to be if someone is attacking?
out the fucking DOOR.
Already held tightly against JJ, Gabe did all he could to summon that energy from last time, encircle them in that bright, burning flame. To protect, to keep them from being seen- to burn anyone who tried to come too close.
Each deep, gasping breath feeding the flame.
He could only hold this for so long, just enough time to move. “Lead us out!” He knew what door he’d come through to get into this hall, but nothing else.
Then, he let go with a breath, his arm tight around JJ, to pull her into a desperate run to get out of the room.
No, this wasn’t right.
His advancement towards the due was deterred by the sparks that flew his way. He caught dome of it, letting out a pained cry.
Enough!
The man yelled into the comms again, to be heard over the chaos.
“Stand back, cease fire! Cease fire!” and litte by little the sounds of gunshots diminished until the only thing they heard was the crackling and snapping of anything that the flames engulfed overhead, around them.
“Retreat, back to the truck! Now!”
They had a bigger mission to finish and chasing after the two was not part of it.
More gunfire around them-and she frantically searched the area for the way they came, pushing Gabe in that direction and trying to support him as they stuck together. ”Darcy! I can hear you!” She yelled. “Building’s on fire. Gunfire. Tell Magni not to come in.” There was too many of them. Too many enemies. And why wouldn’t this asshole go down? Sparks arced from her fingers, but the smoke was obscuring her aim. Something white-hot hit her tight and it buckled for moment, but there was not time to worry about it and she gimped along.
Between the gunfire and the growing sound of wood cracking around them, they needed to get out of there. JJ was about to tell Gabe to get low when everything when yellow and red and orange around them and he started to run with her in tow.

@onlylivinboy
@iamdarcylewis
Darcy waved a hand at Magni as he left, making sure she had her taser at hand if it ever came down to it which she hope it didn’t. After leaving a text to Josh, she focused back the screen and the sound of JJ’s voice was like music to her hears.
“A little too late, JJ” not that she could stop him anyway, “he’s on his way but listen.” She moved from one camera to another, then back to them. “Try reach for that door behind you, I’ll help you out of that place and try to avoid as many assholes as possible.”

The soldiers retreated out of the burning warehouse with haste, carrying their fallen colleague, coughing out the fumes they'd breathed inside, the fresh air cool and soothing.
The man who had made this all possible was the last one to leave, keeping his eyes on the two, until he was unable to see through the thick smoke that was quickly spreading. But they saw them no more. Perhaps they would make it out alive.
He hurried outside, looking back at the building once, then twice when he was further away. The figure of a really tall man sprinting into the burning building was worrying at best.
And once he made sure the squad was inside the truck, whining about what happened, the one that had been called boss knew someone would have to take the blame.
The truck roared to life as it sped down the street, through the city, to disappear where it came from.

JJ aimed at the electrician again, pissed that she’d missed them before.
Not looking over to see if she’d hit or missed, she was urged up and forward by the audible pain in Gabe’s voice…
Red. Too much red.
The bottom dropped out of her stomach and she coughed as the smoke became thicker. Thicker smoke also meant that they might have some cover. Though she was shorter than Gabe, she put herself between the bulk of the men and Gabe, shielding him with everything she had and looked for a way out. It was at times like these that she wished she was Magni’s size. “Darcy-” She said, though she couldn’t hear very well in the building.
Call him. Call him now. She tried, but Josh was probably sleeping so texts had to do for now. What was important right now was getting in touch with either Gabe or JJ, whoever could answer right now in the middle of the chaos.
“I have my taser with me, I’ll be fine.” Darcy nodded at Magni, she could handle it.
In the mean time, Darcy tried to call again for the inside people until she could barely hear a voice.
“JJ! I think I can get you out, can you hear me?”
More shots were firing around them and Gabriel could hear Darcy’s voice in his ear. There was too much going on, he couldn’t focus, he needed to buy them time-

The smoke inside the warehouse grew and grew, the smell was heavy in the air, the same air was going to be hard to breathe very soon. They had done their job right.
But this chaos hadn't been part of it.
How long would it take for the neighborhood to notice?

When Gabe hadn’t slowed down, she followed suit-around the corner. She almost crashed into him as he paused in front of her skidding to a halt. “Ga-”she stared and the light in front of her ramped up to a thousand as he blew out flame. JJ slid past Gabe as the fire flared out as quickly as it started and recognized the glint of a firearm being pointed. She shoved and an invisible hand shoved Gabe as far back as she could. “-shit.” she muttered and started backward.

The sound of the main door being kicked open reverberated through the compund, heavy boots milling inside. It wouldn’t take long before they reached them.
“Clear! Clear!” the teams called in via the comms as they checked every room they passed, the urgency of it all heavy in the air.
The electrician stayed put, weapon drawn but not aimed directly at the young man. When the woman appared, however, they took another step back.
Two against one.
Above them on the second floor, the series of execution of the electric box had begun, a spark and the dark smoke slowly started seeping out. They were all past the deadline.
“Approaching East side corridor.
Roger that. Masks up. Smells like smoke.. ”
“There! I see them!”
The first flash of a weapon firing.
@onlylivinboy
Suddenly shoved backward by an invisible force, Gabriel stumbled to catch himself without falling. The smell of smoke beginning to seep in didn’t register with him, but the voices from the radio were.
The sound of a weapon firing off made him duck low on instinct, as if he could outspeed a bullet in the movement, but the noise of it blanked his brain for a split second.
the door opened— bang!
Fuck!
He threw out an arm to lash out flame at the electrician, this time not as a warning or to stun.
@pdox
@agentjjkelly
Suddenly everything turned to chaos. The electrician watched the two surprise visitors back away, but once the bullets flew there was nothing left to do but take cover.
Another ball of flame flew towards him-a hand throw out to shield themselves. They groaned through gritted teeth as the flames licked his hand. He hadn’t fired his gun, it had been one of the other foot soldiers.
Meanwhile the roof of the building was beginning to be covered in smoke.
They needed to leave.
Bullets whizzed by the pair.
@agentjjkelly
She shielded her eyes again as Gabe let loose another gout of flame. Right. Their time was up-she wasn’t sure if she could smell smoke and fire from Gabe or from another source and she didn’t have time to focus on it as bullets rained around them. She could feel the stings and whipped her head around to see where it was coming from. More people for them to contend with.
Without a second thought, she moved into a more central location and the room when white like the flash of a bulb as she tried to hit the first person they saw and the few other soldiers nearest her. Then she threw herself at Gabe, trying to cover him. They needed to get out of there.
@pdox
@onlylivinboy
It was almost impossible to hear anything other than the weapons firing, it surely must be audible from outside if anyone was near to hear.
The quick and heavy footsteps blended in with shouts, a loud command to cease fire was missed by them all. The electrician advanced as best they could, seeing one, two, three soldiers get hit by jolts.
Flames and electricity. It was too much.

Darcy jumped in her seat when they knocked on the door. She decided to stay quiet since she was terrible at lying and just proceed to smile and show the little joint in her hand as if that was what they were looking for.
“Yeah, driving like this? No yeah.” She only hoped they were convincing enough, how hard was to pretend they were just trying to have some fun?
One of the men looked disgusted, the other annoyed. But it was clear to both of them that this English dude and his friend were just at the wrong place. Damn stoners.
“You better not be here by the morning.“ he grunted, tapped the door hard to give them a warning before straightening up. He nodded at his colleague. “Come on, let’s head back.”
The two guards hurried away to their posts, the chatter over the radio still mixed with static, though it was a lot clearer now.
“-east warehouse, can’t get any contact with Team four, over.“
@magni-thorson
“Thank you, have a nice evening.” Magni called after the both of them, and let out a deep breath when the both turned their backs and he looked over to Darcy and gave a shake of his head.
That had been far too close. “Do you hear anything?” He whispered, a nod to her little earpiece. “Are they alright?”
If the two occupants looked out and up, they might see the dark slow seep of smoke coming through the roof of one of the buildings. The guards had suddenly vanished, even through the darkened premises they would see movement further inside. Something urgent was going on.

The electrician bounded down the stairs, heart in their throat, adrenaline pulsing. Soon they were on the ground floor hurrying through the warehouse’s many rows of inventory.
“Does anyone copy??” Why the hell wasn’t anyone responding?
He rounded a few corners to head down the hallway, and soon it became clear why. The body of the foot soldier on the ground.
They unholstered their gun, approached the body slowly, taking careful steps forward, eyes trained wherever their gun aimed. Once they were near the body, he kicked their foot-the body grunted. Just passed out.
Who did this?
With their one free hand, they pried their face shield away from their belt and slipped it over their head.

The scolding that she was giving him in the moment made him shake his head in frustration, but then the second shock to the man who was already down on the ground practically made him gasp.

Shit, shit-
There was no time to think about it. Slowing down wasn’t an option at this point. Just as he was about to round the corner, he caught the sound of footsteps, a glimpse of someone, another person who had come looking.
Without time, knowing they were about to be spotted, an arm was thrown out to let forth a bright hot flash, to try and catch them off guard.
The sudden brightness, the flash of light and warmth caught them off guard. Eyes wide they took it in, staggered backwards. The panic made them yell into the comms.
“All teams East building-all teams East building!”
The cloud of fire settled and the electrician raised their weapon, aiming straight at the attacker-but they froze.
They were just a kid.
“All teams to East side-” the radio was live and soon footsteps of incoming foot soldiers could be heard.

While all the commotion was going on downstairs, the contact the now unconscious soldier was trying to reach upstairs was still working on the electrical box. All the chatter over the radio had been putting the electrician on edge, almost wanting to shut it off. And he also thought he heard noises from downstairs, but the bubble of concentration he was in didn’t waiver, and even if there was trouble he needed to get this done.
Finally the electrical box was shut closed, the tools put back into their belt. He picked up his radio.
“What the hell is going on down there?“ he demanded, already making their way downstairs, past the offices, the same route he’d taken up. “Two minutes!“

Darcy had just put her phone down when out of the airpods she heard a lot of commotion. “Gabe? Are you okay?” With no response, she got her laptop out and connected the hotspot. She had to do something, maybe she could see what was going on with the cameras but no luck, the only thing she managed to do was mess with the radio signal, hoping that would help Gabe and JJ somehow.
Out of the corner of her eye she noticed a flashlight, looking up to the driver seat, Darcy grabbed Magni’s shoulder. “Oh shit, they’re pretty close.” The car was so tiny, there was no place to hide inside it. “What do we do? What do we do?” Darcy tried to stay as calm as possible and just whisper in case the people outside hadn’t noticed them yet.
@magni-thorson
Now they had been spotted.
There would be no conspicuous way to move out undetected, and there was still Jennifer and Gabriel who had not yet re-emerged from the park.
What do we do?
“Put away your laptop.” He whispered. What could two people be doing, sitting out in this car in the very early hours of the morning?
“Alright- alright, we shall not panic.” He whispered quickly. “Let us forge some pretense, ah-“ He looked around the car, when a familiar smell caused him to simultaneously thank and curse that godson of his.
How many times had he asked him not to bring his cannabis into the car? Had he smoked of it, before he’d gone in?
It was in the pocket of the chair behind him that he found the small bag. A simple enough excuse when he thought of it- should their building not allow for smoke, that was all the reason they needed to be out here.
“Are you able to roll this, as Gabriel does?” He whispered quickly.
Darcy shut down her laptop, shoving it under the seat. Not panic, okay. Easier said that done, they didn’t know if the guys out there had any weapons, Magni was fine, was basically a god but poor Darcy was a mere human.
Darcy looked at him at him as Magni seemed to find something, whatever she thought he was looking for, never in a million years she thought it would be weed. “Magni this isn’t the time to do this.” Unless he had a plan.
She took the bag, she had seen people do this before, she even did it once or twice in college, she tried her best but she got to admit the stress of people with guns showing up at any moment and she was rolling a fuckin joint.
“There! Enjoy, I guess.” What the fuuuck.
The two guards stepped closer, lights flashing into the cars to look inside, moving on to the next when they found nothing. The voice of their command on the radio but getting cut off by the static.
Suddenly seeing movement in one of the cars, they signaled for the other’s attention, approaching them quickly now. Aiming the flashlight inside, their weapons at the ready but aimed away, the bright light blinding the people inside, they had a good look.
But once they saw what was in their hands..
One of them shook their heads at the other. False alarm. But they still knocked on the window.
“Hey, get out of here. This is private property.“
