Random but Important PSA
If you are new to writing fanfiction on tumblr, please know that it is a common courtesy to put fanfiction (usually anything more than 3 or 4 paragraphs or more than 200/300 words) under a readmore/cut.
It is especially important to do this if you want your followers to reblog your fics, because then people aren't exposed to giant scrolling textwalls on their dashboards and aren't accidentally exposed to smut if they don't want to be.
(Because even if someone is over 18, they might not enjoy scrolling through 15 paragraphs of your smut because one of your followers reblogged it to support your creation.)
How To Do This On Mobile
Hit ENTER to type out a fresh new line. Then type out the code :readmore: and hit enter again so that the code is the only thing on that line.
You will know you have been successful when the readmore code appears as a broken, light grey line. Everything beyond that line will now be cut off from the main dashboard and people need to click through in order to see it.
How To Do This On Desktop
When you hit enter on a new line, there is a variety of options, including Insert Gif and Insert Picture, and the "add readmore" option comes up among these. Again, you will know you have been successful when it appears as a jagged grey line in your editing post, and everything below the line will be cut off from the main dashboard.
It is typically etiquette to put these after a brief description and list of warnings surrounding your fanfiction, that way people can consent to reading your content before clicking "read more" (which sometimes also appears as "keep going").
