AO3 has recently seen a wave of comments claiming to be made by the "AO3 Trust & Safety team", notifying you that your account has been restricted. These claims are not true. These comments are not being made by real AO3 volunteers and your account has not been restricted.
AO3 volunteers, including the Policy & Abuse committee, will never communicate with you through comments on your work. All important communications from AO3 will be sent through the email associated with your account. More general announcements will be posted on our official social media accounts or published as news posts on AO3 or OTW.org.
If you receive one of these comments, do not click on any of the links in it, reply to it, or interact with it in any way. The links in these comments lead to sites asking you to verify your identity by providing payment information. This is a common credit card scam. AO3 does not ever ask users to provide payment information, and the Policy & Abuse committee will never comment on your works asking you to "complete an identity verification process".
If you encounter one of these comments or believe your account has been compromised, please view the instructions under the cut!
We suggest that you review your account to verify that you're using a unique and secure password. Check out the advice from our Policy & Abuse committee on Protecting Your AO3 Account and Keeping Your Account Secure.
If you believe your AO3 account has been compromised for any reason (i.e. you received an email that your username changed), you can change or reset your password to ensure control of your account. Changing your password will automatically log you out of all sessions on all devices. You can find the option to change your password in your Preferences.
If you encounter one of these comments on your own work or someone else's, please report them to the Policy & Abuse committee. To do so:
Select the "Thread" button on the scammer's comment. This will take you to the specific comment page.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Policy Questions & Abuse Reports.
In the "Brief summary of Terms of Service violation" field, enter "Spambot".
In the "Description of the content you are reporting" field, enter "This is a spambot, their username is USERNAME."
Reporting in this fashion helps us auto-sort your report so that it can be handled as soon as a Policy & Abuse volunteer is available. To help us address reports about these types of bots as fast as possible, please only submit one report per account, and don't include multiple accounts in the same report.

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! Thatβs a big deal! Iβve never thought about it before but now that I have, itβs ridiculous to me that thatβs not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why donβt we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
Itβs July 20th. Thatβs the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. Iβm ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and Iβm going to have a goddamn potluck. Youβre all invited.

Itβs called The Kaleidoscope, itβs a novel, and the thing Iβm personally most excited about is that itβs actually written by Jo Martin!!!!
Fans with more knowledge will have to chime in but I donβt know if weβve ever had one of the Doctors write a full novel before, and the writing of Dr Who (both for the show itself and for extended universe material) has been so dominated by writers who are white men, so itβs incredibly exciting to have a writer come from a different demographic. Black fans - and Ncuti Gatwa too - have been saying for years that we need more diverse storytellers, not just to combat racism but for the sake of the art itself!

Thereβs also this really wonderful interview with Jo Martin where you can find out more about the premise. She talks about what it was like to be cast and how her son is a huge Whovian who helped give her pointers while writing the book. And this lovely bit:
I really did grow up with Doctor Who; I used to dress up my cousins in tin foil β they had to be the Daleks! And I would fashion some kind of costume for myself and play the Doctor. And theyβd be like, βOkay, now itβs my turn to be the Doctor. You have to be a Dalek.β And Iβd always say, βNah, nah, nah! I want to be the Doctor.β And theyβd be like, βYou canβt be a doctor, youβre a girl.β
Back then, the show had a long tradition of white males in that role, so it really was wonderful that we got Jodie. But, as you can imagine, I never saw myself represented β and to be seen is so important. So to be standing on set the day when I had to say, βHello, Iβm the Doctorβ¦β Well. I mean, we had to retake that a few times because Iβd get really choked upβ¦ I could see that little girl in me.
But now it is β and, of course, the fans have always been very inclusive. So to have that acknowledgment from Brazil to America, from France to Australia β from Aboriginal girls sending me a message β means a lot. Itβs great to be able to cosplay as someone without anyone look being able to look at them and say, βWell, you canβt be wearing that.β You know? The girls can dress up as Jodie or anybody else; they can be who they like. And then, as a Black child, you can look on me and go, βYou know what? I could do this.β Because Doctor Who is for everyone.
The thing Iβm probably most excited about is that it sounds like the Fugitive Doctor being Black isnβt just ignored, there is some cultural diversity there or touching on how being Black might shape her experiences - and we are going to that written BY someone who is actually Black, which was one of the things I loved so much about The Storyteller and the Engine.
So we lean into a bit of the Fugitive Doctorβs heritage; the fact that sheβs a Black woman. Weβve gone into what happened when she left Gallifrey β weβve also gone to Jamdown, my dear! So weβre in Jamaica in some of the story.

and if you need to request time off, never say more than 'sick', 'appointment on [date] at [time]' or 'vacation' when you're asking!
