You know what’s messed up? People make fun of women for reading romance novels in which men are kind, chivalrous and sexually generous to the women they love, but men watching violent hardcore porn where women choke on dicks is considered normal, and ‘shaming’ someone for it is considered more taboo than the porn itself. And women reading romance novels has certainly yet to lead to a culture where men are considered lesser if they don’t emulate the men in the pages. I wonder the fuck why.

What cultural relativism is good for: understanding in some countries bugs are a delicacy and that isn’t ‘gross’, red means luck in some places and war in others, death is a great tragedy in some places and a celebration of life in others, etc.

Having biological children is not a right. Children are not a right. No one and this includes both infertile women and gay men are not entitled to the reproductive labor of other women.

Is it shitty that adoption agencies are homophobic? Yes. Is it shitty that laws make it harder for gay people to adopt or have kids? Yes

But no one is entitled to the reproduction labor of another woman. Not even for money.

Because I know how surrogacy works. And the average gay couple is not going for the white woman in America.

They are going to go to a developing country with little to no standards of care and through "agencies" who hire poor and destitute women & teens.

The average cost of surrogacy is 50k. You think the avg gay couple is going to stay in America to find their surrogate?

Or India, Taiwan or Nigeria and charge a couple thousand?

Additions: if your viral load is suppressed by medication to the point it’s undetectable, it’s considered untransmittable, even without condoms. Children with HIV+ carriers are usually given medication when they’re born, to make sure any of the virus doesn’t take hold (which we also do to adults who fear they’ve been exposed, it’s called PEP ((Post Exposure Prophylaxis)), which is a month of medication and must be started within 72 hours of exposure).

(There’s also PreP - Pre Exposure Prophylaxis, which is taking medication if you feel you are at risk of being exposed to HIV, whether through sexual partners or sharing injection needles)

This is why we need universal free healthcare - so people can go on and have happy, healthy lives despite the HIV diagnosis. Nobody should die or live in fear when the treatment is so damn simple and effective.
