Until death, all defeat is psychological.
in truth, for the chance to be by your side I would storm the Dark City itself.
Victor Frankenstein after achieving the impossible and building a fucking person from scraps of the dead: Oh god, ew, ew it's ugly! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew! Ew! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew!

sometimes you can tell how much someone loves dragon age by how much they hate dragon age
Actually, my therapist has told me this is a healthy way of processing things. Because you can get the trauma out of your head And you can write the ending you wish it had. The trusted person rescue, the catharsis of getting to kill the one who hurt you.
It's good for your brain. It's healthier than bottling it up. Fiction is where we go for emotional release. That can be true with trauma too.
so what you're saying is
character: NO
therapist: YES
Adding @dear-massacre's tags because they are so true:
#this is why it's important to remember that fictional characters are fake #they have no agency. they're made up #it hurts no one to make any character go through the horrors #it is healthy and cathartic
yeah okay ill reblog that
Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.
what's your "if I won the lottery I wouldn't tell anyone but there would be signs" thing? mine is getting a fully green kitchen
Blackwall
i was training a young person at work, and she referred to sexual assault as "SA" out loud, and i immediately was like, "no, it's sexual assault, call it what it is," bc idgaf if the algorithm overlords have taught y'all that you should fear direct language, how tf do any of you expect to ever address real issues with any amount of seriousness if you can't even say the words? imagine an advocate looking a sexual assault survivor in the eyes and asking "did he grape you?" it's absolutely fucking absurd, but these young interns and new hires are coming into an environment where we deal with survivors of all different kinds of abuse, and they're coming with the mindset that the words are as bad as the actions, and that makes them shitty at the job and look juvenile af
i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience
say the fucking words, guys. just say the goddamn words before i go insane!!!
getting teary eyed thinking about gerda gottlieb's paintings of her wife after she transitioned
thing is, for a lot of these paintings it wasn’t “after” lily elbe’s transition. there was no after to it. the one op posted was painted in 1928. this was 2 years before lily legally changed her name and began undergoing revolutionary gender affirming procedures. unfortunately she died due to complications of an experimental uterine transplant in 1931.
up until that point, during the day lily continued to dress in masculine clothing and even attended galleries showing gottlieb’s paintings of her. which was kind of iconic. she got to stand in a room full of people who were marveling her beauty, not knowing she was right next to them. it must have been such a cute little secret for them as a couple.
here’s gerda and lilly together
not to mention that for most people there is no real “after” to a transition. especially for these trans historical figures who had to balance identity and safety at all times.
i think having a wife paint these portraits must have felt really amazing for lily. to be able to see herself through the eyes of someone who loved her. i’m very much seconding op on the getting teary eyed.
here are some of my favorite gottleib lily paintings
i am massively overdue for a very very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy
reblog to give prev a very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy
please read this even if you're not indian. especially if you're not indian.
you've seen the jokes. india is "dirty", indians are "everywhere", why don't they fix their own country. ok. let me tell you why, and what's happening right now while nobody's watching.
first, the history you skipped: britain ruled india for two centuries and drained it. economist utsa patnaik's research estimates around $45 trillion in today's money was taken. the india that got independence in 1947 was one of the poorest countries on earth. every "why is india like this" question starts there. you don't get to profit off a robbery and then mock the crime scene.
now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:
in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.
and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:
• infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.
• youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.
• only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.
• manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.
• journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.
• even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.
and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.
what i'm asking:
if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.
if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.
india is not "dirty". india was robbed, and it's being robbed again, from the inside this time. but it's also the country where a 59 year old will starve for strangers' kids and 22 million young people will rally behind a party literally named after cockroaches, because cockroaches survive everything.
we can still save her. but only loudly.
reblog. share. don't scroll past.
the fanon declawing of Johnigail in certain sides of this fandom is so weird to me.
to clarify i’m not anti Johnigail i love them a lot and i don’t believe in ship bashing anyway but idk i find it strange that in SOME rdr spaces johnigail is very much reduced to “John is a stupid dumb dumb himbo whipped for Abigail, the dommy mommy baddie bitch who pegs him” which, while a certainly valid and fun dynamic for them in an AU setting, does ignore a lot of the complexities when it comes to them.
Abigail was a child prostitute (17 is a child, regardless of the time period and social norms back then, she was a year older than Jack in RDR1 and you wouldn’t call him an adult, would you?) who had been forced to sell her body since even younger. Abigail was a teenager in a criminal gang full of murderers who, as painful as this may be to hear, probably weren’t above doing some ugly things. Abigail was pregnant at eighteen years old by a criminal in his twenties who did not care. Abigail pretty much singlehandedly raised Jack on her own with John getting involved far too late. John mistreated Abigail through pretty much the first half of the game and didn’t even consider Jack his son until the kid was literally kidnapped. John did not decide to grow and change as a person until Abigail finally left him, and even then, how long did that last?
they are messy as FUCK. they, for the most part, aren’t actually healthy couple goals. rdr is a series about protagonists with complex morals and that theme really really seeps into John’s relationship with his family and especially Abigail.
i feel like so many people joking about Abigail in a position of dominance over John because his treatment of her IS ugly and it IS wrong of him and we don’t like to think about one of the heroes of the story mistreating someone he claims to love more than anything but isn’t this a story of redemption? isn’t this a story where the characters do bad things and grow from it? part of the beauty of Johnigail is that despite the awful circumstances they came together from, they managed to grow and develop as people to make and find their own kind of love.
i feel like when you scrub away the context of “Abigail is a sexual abuse victim who was a teen mom in poor circumstances and mistreated by John” then you scrub away what makes John’s realisation and yknow, his red dead redemption so profound by weakening a big part of why he has to redeem himself.
i also think it’s worth talking about how i feel like a lot of people try and act like there was understanding and closeness between John and Jack too when there really wasn’t and to me this feels like another example of declawing the messiness of the marstons. i know people like to ignore 1907 + 1911 Jack because he’s a whiney emo shitbag or whatever and i only really see people discussing 1899 baby Jack or 1914 vengeful Jack when talking about the marstons but like you aware that all through rdr1 and the rdr2 epilogue and presumably before, Jack truly believes John thinks less of him and believes himself to be a disappointment, and knows he was an accident. you are aware he has cut lines about wishing he was dead at the age of twelve. you are aware he felt like that even in the period where the marstons were supposedly happy and thriving.
i feel like when you’re romanticising the marston family you gotta remember that they were initially only together for the sake of their illegitimate child together, with John neglecting his duty to both his wife and son and even when he gets better and learns to grow, they’re not squeaky clean and they never get to be.
idek where i’m going with this but let the marston family and Johnigail be MESSY please!! they are imperfect and ugly and fucked up and i feel like reducing them to “my doomed femdom hetslop” or whatever really does cheapen what makes them so complex in canon
but what if it was charla and javeria. hello? is this thing on? can anyone hear me??
have u guys noticed the phenomenon that's like
- m/f ship between a nonblack man & a Black woman
- it's either canon (e.g. mel/jayce arcane, arthur/guinevere bbcmerlin) or entirely plausible (e.g. prism or coupé/robert dispatch)
- fanbase overwhelmingly pairs nb man off with another nb man and disengages from the Black woman character, shunting her into a background wise & sassy caretaker role (for which there is a name) or leaving her out of fanworks entirely
- fans who do this ^ claim it is an expression of love and admiration for the Black woman character, actually, bc the nb man (who may be her canonical partner) "can't handle all that" (he may be perfectly competent and engaged; she may be totally low maintenance; it has no bearing), she's just too wonderful (too much) and out of his league (lacking in flaws and interiority and fan appeal)
have we all observed this and can we see the multiple dimensions in which it is racist ☝️ i'm not bringing it up to make any beautiful fujos feel bad abt shipping this or that, just to ask for some consideration of what ppl are saying abt Black women when they make their excuses to each other. like you can just not make the excuses. yk?
is the fire making it hard to read. here.
this post is about misogynoir. not which ships u do/don't like.
the post seeks to reopen a discussion (which others have brought up before) about how Black women characters are talked about by shipper communities.
comments about the relative merits of one ship over another can add nothing to that conversation, which is about casual use of racist stereotypes and sexist language.
please stop commenting to tell me you like jayvik.
thanks
This post is not about which ships you do or do not like.
