We know from the esoteric bubble conversation with Snell that Ragn has dealt with several esoteric events and either got reprimanded or pushed away for it:
It's not clear what sequence these happened in, but I don't think it really matters... the important part is that they all happened and none of the rejections/reprimands stopped him from doing what he thought was right: containing the gremlins at the factory, allowing the fishery whistleblower to get justice, dispelling the drunkenness effect...
Who knows how many other thankless deeds Ragn has done..... when Darrow dismisses Ragn's partner for this case, he immediately stands up for Snell because although Darrow is bankrolling this effort, the HWBT are the ones who called for further investigation. It would be flat out wrong to not involve the goblin representative in this conversation.
Ragn gets told off, but he expected that... he always does.... what he doesn't expect is for Snell to actually comment on it the following day. We've established that positive acknowledgement of his actions is probably something Ragn seldom receives.
Is it a wonder, then, that he feels warm when Snell recognizes his actions?
It takes such a high WIS for Ragn to actually accept the gratitude though... he's so unused to receiving thanks that he doesn't even recognize it!!!!!!!! It makes him feel something, but he can't place it without a high enough WIS!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAA
And it takes an even higher CON stat for him to recognize the bond forming between them; to see the Strings that tie them together and identify Snell as a friend. For your gut instinct to recognize someone so intimately and warmly after A DAY................ IS INSANE..............
T....there is a Fray to be followed here, sometime post-canon, perhaps with a Ragn who has renounced Urth altogether.....Ragn worshipping Snell's body....
The Strings do not answer him the same way they used to. They are still there, ever present in the back of his mind, but they slip now where they used to twist. It is a difficult adjustment, one that requires him to relearn how to weave with the Strings.
He used to spend hours of his day in prayer, yes, on his knees. When he was young, it was hard on him, both physically and mentally. But the more he did it, the more he grew to feel at home—or at the very least, a beautiful facsimile of it—before a shrine. Urth was the only answer he needed, and his service to the dead God became the very fabric of his being.
But now, with a God that is dead to not only the Coast but to himself, what does he do with the part of himself that grew to find comfort in the act of worship?
...why, he kneels at the feet of the person who is his home and his heart in one: Snell.
Snell, who allows Ragn to drift beneath him, keeping a steady hand on him at all times, ready to pull him back. With Snell, there is no drowning, even if Ragn is swimming in devotion so deep it threatens to swallow him whole.
Ragn learns a different kind of worship when he kneels before Snell. He discovers it in the warmth of Snell's skin beneath his palms; in the lingering scent of incense that he buys not for his own sake, but for Ragn's. There is promise in every hitch of Snell's breath, and Ragn feels closer to God when Snell calls his name than he ever did in Jor's Crossroads.
