“Some old wounds never truly heal, and bleed again at the slightest word.”
— George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
My mom’s Ethiopian restaurant, Merkato, in Los Angeles, CA
me when a show has a gay character that has one or two nice things happen to them:
Y’all need to stop supporting Bad Gyal, Rosalía and these white Spaniard girls doing colonizer caricatures of Western Hemisphere Latinx culture when Black and Brown Latinx women music artists exist and don’t get the credit they deserve. You might know Kali Uchis and Becky G and other very lightskinned Latina musicians, but there are many more mujeres afrodescendientes making music today.
Oh, you don’t know any? Let me help you.
Ibeyi (French/Afro-Cuban) Genre: R&B

Goyo Martinez (Afro-Colombian) of the band ChocQuibTown Genre: R&B, soul, hip-hop
Carolina Oliveros (Colombian) of the band Combo Chimbita Genre: Psychedelic rock, fusion

MC Carol (Afro-Brazilian) Genre: Baile funk

None of these women are super obscure artists. I’m literally not even Afro-Latinx myself and these are artists that I listen to regularly who are putting out contemporary music.
Reblog this and add more Latinx women musicians that you know of!

It really says something about how society treats children that today I told a 13 year old I was proud of her hard work and she nearly cried into my shoulder.
This was followed by me telling her and her sister that I thought their stories about D&D were really fun and creative, and them both being flat-out shocked that “anyone actually likes listening to us ramble.”
Like. Y’all. These kids should not be surprised that adults will actually listen to them and engage with them. This should not be a weird outlier.
Please be nice to children and treat them like people????
If you want the saddest proof of this, try babysitting kids between the ages of 8 and 14
I watched this kid who was 9 or 10? and he begged and begged to go to this video game store that he never got to go to, because it was a 40 minute drive- I agreed, we went, and the entire drive he lectured me on Zelda and Pokemon. I don’t care much about Zelda or Pokemon lore? but I pretended to be interested and listened enough to ask questions to keep him going. He ended up not being able to afford anything, so we drive home- almost an hour and a half just driving and sitting in the back of my car, and he tells me it was so much fun and can I babysit again?
Fucking listen to children and engage them in conversation- even letting them ramble about some shit you don’t care about and won’t remember is a huge deal for them, and it shouldn’t have to be, but it is
Somebody already said it, they want control of how they spend their money & be praised for it. It was always about power, not about helping others.
I don’t even think it’s about controlling money, I think it’s about power over others.
Taxes don’t come with accolades or positive PR. Taxes don’t get you a wing of a hospital named after you. Taxes don’t let you let you host “fundraising” dinners where you can network with other obcenely rich people.
For a lot of these billionaires, donations are seen as a way to buy things without actually buying them. That’s what happened with the Notre Dame fire. All those billionaires that said they were giving millions to fix it? Not a single one paid unless they could completely control Notre Dame. Philanthropy is just another form of acquisition for these people.
If a billionaire was willing to save the world then one of them would have done it already. The truth is you only get to a billion dollars because you’re a greedy asshole who doesn’t give a shit about anyone other than yourself.
In the short term (next couple years), tax them to hell and back. In the long term (next couple decades), expropriate the economic engines that generate their wealth in the first place and communalize/democratize those engines to benefit people as a whole. We need an ecosocialist world built on economic democracy, production for use (rather than for exchange/profit), and sustainable ecological practices. Capitalism will not cut it. These b/millionaire sociopaths will always value their own wealth and power over the tangible reality of social wellbeing for a human population. A new system is desperately needed.
trans people shouldn’t have to bend to the cis-centric views of gender expression to be taken seriously
trans poc shouldn’t have to bend to the white views of gender expression to be taken seriously
the real question is why spongebob dialogue fits so seamlessly with drag queens arguing
I THOUGHT THESE WERE ACTUAL QUOTES FROM DRAG RACE.
I didn’t even question it
the whole ‘boomers are bigots’ thing dissolves when you take into account Incels, Nazis and TERFs who are, in fact, bigots who aren’t boomers
and it starts looking like maybe
maybe
cishet white supremacy is actually the thread, and not the age, sex or generation.
there’s also been multiple studies showing that white youth today are as bigoted if not more bigoted than their forebears so like lol. generational logic is 100% used to escape culpability.
it’s race and class that determines both who has a personal interest in maintaining oppressive structures and who has the ability to do so – y’all it’s not “boomers” who are doing this, it’s well-off white people
and yeah there’s boomers doing it but that torch is being passed to the next generation of well-off white bigots who want to keep owning the world
After I made a post about this, somebody sent me an Anon saying ‘ok boomer’, which really goes to show how people value pithy slogans over actually thinking about the cause of social issues.
The generation wars mindset also ignores the fact that there are Boomers who are black, brown and/or indigenous, who are gay, bi and/or trans, who are disabled, who are poor, and so on and so forth.
