Monkey King Hero is Back's 10th anniversary is in a few days... how time flies 🤧❤️
My HiB suntang fanfic "The Ironclad Heartstone" is up on ao3!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Been working on a jttw hib au fanfic that expands the game's ending/suntang focused theme. Still in the early revisions, but I just wanted to tease with the fanarts I posted on my main blog. 🥺
Damn I know the synopsis for this sounds all cheery but what if they do the whole Star Trek pilot ep in which Wukong's actually in some sort of spell-like illusion where everything's happy n all. There's hints throughout alluding Wukong things aren't as they seem, until the end hits you in the feels (again lol) and it's revealed Wukong put himself in a reality where Liuer doesn't die because he couldn't accept the real one dying of old age... So he wakes and reflects his time with Liuer (flashbacks of jttw and afterwards?). He's then seen visiting his grave and watching over the reincarnations after Liuer. It's a far stretch of an AU but one I've been thinking for a while. 🥺💕
🥰
"STOP FIGGHHHTTTIINNGGG!"
This Wukong/Liuer cameo in Deep Sea's end credits made me happy 😭💕
The elevation from Rise to Dawn really hit hard with it's drama/emotional tone. Those subtle gestures characters make when an intense scene arises or an idle moment of quietness; I wish I respected those aspects when I first watched Dawn in theaters all those years before.
Seeing world build with other apes and their relationships with one another, getting invested in Caesar's struggle for peace amidst inevitable battle (and within blood) grips you into a world where nothing comes free-willing without the cost of sacrifice (which makes it all the more devastating rewatching War)
In War, it's that gut wrenching throb you feel throughout the film being reminded of all that character development in Dawn with Blue Eyes and his father snaps in the first section of the film; it's unexpected but impactful.
The great work Weta does and Andy Serkis' performance captivates the audience into something special; a cinematic experience I wish I could relive for the first time again.
The addition Kingdom hands is a refreshing take on the series/adds significance to Caesar's legacy. I'd love to rewatch the movie again when it releases a physical copy and watch Noa's journey in this new age of apes.
