It’s an unfortunate truth that not a single film has ever managed an even slightly accurate portrayal of Chopin:

“Desire for Love” paints him as really angry (?????), “Impromptu” gives him a French accent (offensive) and essentially no personality at all, and “Chopin, Chopin!” said, ‘well he’s boring cause he only had like one girlfriend so let’s just make him Liszt.’

This also kind of speaks to a larger issue of people taking one personality trait from a historical figure and deciding that was Them. For example, I saw a reddit post recently asking if Brahms was bad tempered, with the general response being “sure but he also contained multitudes like every other human on earth” like fucking obviously 😭

Maybe Krasiński palace because the national theater used to be in that courtyard and that's where he did his two "farewell" concerts and premiered his 2 concertos, and I believe they have some Chopin artifacts there u can see

The Visitationist Church in Krakowskie Przedmieście where Chopin used to play the organ in his teenage years (btw there's a funny anecdote about his time as an organist which you can read here: greatcomposers.nifc)

While you're in Krakowskie Przedmieście, you can see two places where Chopin lived with his family - one is at the University of Warsaw and it's called the Kazimierzowski (Casimir) Palace and the other, located opposite the university is the Czapski Palace, now home to the Academy of Fine Arts (there used to be ‘The Chopins’ living room open to the public but I believe all the memorabilia were moved to the Chopin Museum so it's no longer functioning)

Sadly the Chopin Museum is closed until the end of the year but if you want to visit the museum shop it's located in the Chopin Institute just opposite the museum - here's how to get there.

Last but not least, the Chopin Monument in the Łazienki Park of course!

Unpopular Star Trek option but as a Spirk shipper I didn’t mind Spock and Uhura in the reboots at all and even enjoyed it… I think great ships can withstand existing as strong platonic relationships and it’s reductive to assume your ship is king above others. Uhura is awesome and so is Spock so I think they were pretty cute…

And on the Schumann of it all, today I am thinking about Robert Schumann’s glowing and unreciprocated love for Chopin… “Hats off gentlemen, a genius!” etc, and Chopin in return misspelling his name in his letters. 🥲

Perhaps he was salty over Schumann’s unkind review of his second piano Sonata. I think they must’ve had an amusing interpersonal relationship, but sadly the details of this we will never know.

(op pls excuse my rant but my special interest fixation is tickled and activated, and i simply cannot resist. my correction is not directed at you because i **LOVE** posts like this)

so the quote from the letter to woyciechowski is actually a quote from an article in the guardian that covers the "research" of moritz weber on chopin's sexuality. weber's research is very poor, and it annoys me that it got international attention. the guardian article itself is serviceable, but it gives him way too much credit. the quote about the "dirty" dream is syntactically really complex in the original letter and requires a lot more context than you get from this article or from weber's write-up. the word that describes the dream is "szkaradny", which translates best as terrible/awful. chopin was being facetious by calling the dream awful (i think), but there is no reason to translate the word as "dirty" unless you're trying to make it sound ultra scandalous.

also Woyciechowski was involved in the november uprising of 1830, but not the january uprising
