Percy and Annabeth sat on the couch in stunned silence
“Don’t look so glum, darling. You’re having a child with one of Olympus’s most eligible bachelors.”
Percy could sense the tension and turned towards Hera, “Do you mind if we have some alone time, Lady Hera? Please.”
he turned on his baby seal eyes which he learned early on Hera was always a sucker for
“Congratulations again, young Olympian.”
she disappeared in a puff of white smoke, her eyes staying on Annabeth as she departed
“I hate her,” Annabeth growled
without thinking, Percy placed his hand on Annabeth’s back, rubbing soothing circles as his other hand drummed nervously on his knee
Annabeth watched him, images flooding her mind of a little boy or girl with his dark, untamable hair and incessant energy but most of all with his big heart
the heart that had called to hers all those years ago; the heart whose beating seemed to match hers perfectly
she reached out, brushing back a strand from his forehead
“You need a hair cut, Seaweed Brain,” she said calmly
he smiled sheepishly, “Not as much as I need you”
they sat back on the couch and Annabeth rested her head on Percy’s shoulder, suddenly consumed with thoughts of all the kisses she had peppered them with the night before

“Percy, we both know that’s not how this works.”

she hugged his arm and placed a kiss to his cheek, not wanting to disturb the happy illusion Percy’s determination had built in his mind
for Annabeth, it was only a matter of time until the gods interfered
after all, a demigod has to be raised by their mortal parent regardless of how in love the god might be
but maybe, just for now, she could let herself believe in this with him
believe they could build a life together, a home
“My mom is really gonna love this, isn’t she?” she laughed
“Maybe this can finally be the end of it.”
Percy took his arm and wrapped it around Annabeth’s shoulders, pulling her closer to him, “The rivalry. It ends here. I love you, Annabeth”
he placed a kiss to her lips and they melted into each other
