So, I’ve noticed a bizarre neurological quirk of mine and so has my family. I don’t react to cute things. Babies, puppies, kittens, etc. I don’t get that visceral reaction that most people get and according to my mom, I’ve never had that reaction. I feel protective and parental instincts, but I don’t experience the attraction that people experience when they see something cute or just generally smaller than it normally is. It’s just not a thing in my neurology.

I’d personally say that ancute is an anaesthetic microlabel at best but if anybody else sees this and has experience with this sort of thing has full aesthetic attraction but just not toward cute things, do tell.

As I have discovered, this proposal is not a new idea. Genuinely thought I had something there. Kinda interesting how I came up with the exact same word as other people. Great minds think alike a suppose.

No True Scotsman Fallacy and Aspec.

Have you been in a scenario where somebody calls you inhuman for not experiencing some type of attraction or another? Well you’ve been a victim of not just aphobia but the “No True Scotsman Fallacy” the No True Scotsman Fallacy is an informal logical fallacy that, to quote Wikipedia is a fallacy “in which one modifies a prior claim in response to a counterexample by asserting the counterexample is excluded by definition.” Let’s use a hopefully hyperbolized example

Bob: everybody wants sex.

Owen: I’m asexual and I don’t really want sex.

Bob: every real person wants sex.

In this example, Owen has committed the No True Scotsman Fallacy by saying that Bob’s Asexuality makes him somehow not a real person. This form of fallacy can even come up in aspec spaces. Another example.

Ace: every aroace can form a queerplatonic bond.

Gary: I’m aqueerplatonic.

Ace: every real aroace can form a queerplatonic bond.

In this example, Ace excluded Gary from being a “real aroace” by arbitrarily saying that “real” aroaces can form queerplatonic bonds

To avoid using this fallacy in future interactions with aspec people, whether you are aspec or not, remember this, no form of attraction is universal or necessary for a fulfilling life. Some people are happy to spend their time completely alone.

So, I’ve tried posting some Minecraft fanfiction I wrote to a separate blog. Since nobody seems to have seen it, I’ve decided to post a few stories here. I’ll post the two funniest I’ve written as well as my most recent which is pride themed. I’ll post them in order of when I wrote them.

For context about this set of stories and the reason they’re written the way they are, these stories take place on a fictional Minecraft SMP called “Jimbobby SMP” the current state of the server is that it’s most dedicated but not necessarily most sane players remain. The owner is often absent for months at a time and the one remaining server moderator can barely hold the server together despite like 10 people on the server being a rarity. The Jimbobby universe is very much sitcom inspired. And finally, it’s written in a style called “epistolary” which in its traditional form is a story told through stuff like fictional newspaper clippings, letters, posters, any form of documentation. Modern epistolary stories often use the internet. The stories you will read take the form of a server chat log.

Now with that out of the way, the stories.

Minor CW for the Happy Pride Month story. There is a little homophobia near the beginning but it’s one line and the rest of the story is essentially a queer discovery.

Love is something that emotions feel and project onto the person based on how they drive. I think it represents how deep love can be.

So, I was wondering, is not experiencing a visceral “cute thing” emotion since childhood a sign of a-aestheticism? I also experience other signs. Just want to see if this is the right word for my experience. I literally don’t experience whatever it is people experience at the sight of something cute. I also can only appreciate visual beauty of say, a painting if I understand the level of craftsmanship and skill that got put into it.

This isn't my idea. it's from a youtuber called Xatrix. I just named them. My running theory is inspired by the fact that the Tower seems to be themed around fire and the well of fate around water. I assume there's two other structures. one of earth and one of air with corresponding hosts.

Here’s some territory I think is unexplored in inside out AUs. The question of “what does character archetype X’s head look like?” I’m not talking crossovers where you examine a specific character’s head, I’m talking an OC built on an archetype. For instance, what does the head of somebody who peaked in college look like? The head of a buerocrat? Sports or pop star? Anything. I’d love to see heads like that explored from inside out’s language.

So, this post is dedicated to a couple terms and a technique I’ve coined over the course of my IFS therapy to describe how I personally use it. On to the terms

“Parts Conglomerate”

A parts conglomerate is essentially what happens when a parts coalition pulls a trick similar to the “three kids in a trench coat” trope. It is a parts coalition sharing one “body” and moving and acting as one. This also carries the benefit of if you unburden the conglomerate, you’ve unburdened several parts. Parts conglomerates can be identified if they take on more than one role. For instance, an anxious parts conglomerate can take on all 3 traditional IFS roles the role of a manager with constant low level anxiety, causing the person to constantly make backup plans, a firefighter for extreme panic and suicidal behavior, and an exile, always anxious that a parent won’t come back. For me, parts conglomerates are a way for parts to organize themselves into larger, more complicated units. They’ve displayed this behavior for a long time.

Tips for working with conglomerates: Treat them like you would any other part. Don’t “separate” them unless they agree to it. Instead, visualize going into their heads to meet the parts behind the conglomerate.

“Guide-like parts”

These parts are very similar to guides. They have good intentions, they are calming to be with, and they take on the form of something comforting and/or meaningful to the person. The one difference is that they interfere more than they should and don’t have perfect methods for doing what they do. They might be managers or firefighters. They never do anything too destructive but can do morally dubious things in order to try and help.

Tips for working with guide-like parts: encourage their guide-like qualities. If they want to be true guides, unburden them in a way that lets them ascend to the state of a guide. If they don’t like being a guide, do what you would normally do with a part that doesn’t like their role and try to help them find something more fulfilling to do.

Now for the technique I developed to assist in my work.

Contacting unburdened parts:

Some parts are never burdened and they can be of great help to the inner work. To contact an unburdened part, think of an aspect of your personality that you’re at peace with and talk to it like any other part. As soon as it distinguishes itself, ask it to help with the work in whatever way it feels like. If it chooses to help, be sure to stay in Self while the work happens. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t burden this part with the responsibility of unburdening exiles. It has a job it knows it likes and can do it well. Don’t give it extra work that it might hate or be unequipped for. The Self and guides are the ones who unburden.

Celeste Inspired IFS Parts Discovery Meditation

before i start, i should inform you that i am not an IFS therapist. I just research the modality heavily for my own work. But if i was an IFS therapist, I'd first use Inside Out to describe IFS with Celeste as my backup plan. The purpose of this meditation is to discover and interact with a frightening manager or firefighter. Please do not attempt this if you are new to IFS. You need to get to know other parts before going deep into your mind. Now for the meditation. As with all IFS meditations, get into Self first. "You find yourself in front of a high mountain. It is a place of healing through trial. You came here to discover a part of you that has been calling out through self destructive acts. As you climb the mountain you stop to take a rest and fall asleep. You are now dreaming. you wander through an abandoned mountain town until you find a monastery. You enter to find a mirror. As you look into the mirror you see the part you were looking for. It is safe and contained behind the mirror. You ask it what it does for you, the part responds. take as much time as you need to hear what the part does for you. You then ask the part why it feels the need to be self destructive. The part responds again. Take all the time you need for the part to answer. You then ask the part if it would be willing to compromise. The part responds. Take all the time you need for this part to answer. You tell the part that this will not be the last time you meet. You take a small hand mirror and the part transfers over to it. you may take this mirror out and talk to the part whenever you want while it's safe behind the reflection. You resolve to help heal this part on the next climb up the mountain but for now, you have all information you need and you have knowledge of this part. you and the part descend back down the mountain together."

So, I’ve had this idea for an inside out fanfic that gives Nostalgia some depth. We first must introduce our Human MC. Meet Aaron. Aaron was a star athlete in college but didn’t do much in his later adulthood. He yearns for his college days and will forever envy the people playing college football. Now let’s look in his head.

Joy has long since left headquarters to live in imagination land, Fear and Anxiety are concerned about stuff such as bills and finding love, Anger is still pissed that Aaron’s college sweetheart left him, Ennui has completely checked out and just pilots the console from her phone in bed during times when it’s not Super Bowl, Embarrassment and Disgust are both trying to get Aaron to lose weight, Sadness has been wandering the mind to try and find Joy, and at the center of the mess is Nostalgia, Envy, and a partially shutdown console. The console itself hasn’t fully shut down from Gloom/Depression but it’s about a fifth of the way there. Nostalgia and Envy are at the console 24\7 trying to prevent the encroachment of Gloom. Due to the stress, Nostalgia has picked up some odd habits. He has gained the ability to change memory color and is constantly recalling memories to make them nostalgic and then throws them into the belief system hoping it will fix the depression. Aaron’s sense of self constantly repeats “I was worth something” and Envy is constantly gawking at college athletes and cheering Nostalgia on. Envy has started to work along side Anger, causing Aaron to feel extremely jealous.

The only complain is... the emotions didn't welcome Nostalgia at all. They just didn't care because... well, it wasn't the appropriate age for it.

I say, Nostalgia doesn't care about how old you are. It's there to remember you how you enjoyed something (or even how you survived and went through tough times). She's the warm blanket you'll need. They should have paired it with Sadness (care plus allowing to let something go). Sadness and Nostalgia are great partners that work together.

You are cared Nostalgia. And I really enjoyed the short presence in the movie.
