So I’ve seen a lot of posts going around telling you that you need to get your ballot in the mail early because of delays (Voting Day is October 20, not November 3!!!!! Make your votes count!!!!) but no one has said DO NOT TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOUR BALLOT. Ballot selfies are only legal in less than half of our states, and this is not a year where we want our president to point at all of the ballot selfies and say, “Those don’t count.”

I know it’s a bummer that you won’t get your little “I voted” sticker this year, but it’s a small price to pay considering the pandemic and its rising case numbers. Don’t give the government any reason to say that your vote doesn’t count. Do not invalidate your own vote.

Buy your own “I voted” stickers (Etsy and redbubble have tons of them) and take a picture with those! Take a picture by your mailbox with the flag up to show your ballot will be on its way! Take a picture with a book of stamps (you don’t need a stamp for your ballot, but it shows you’re supporting the post office, which is carrying your vote to its polling place)! Save your ballot selfies for a different election and make sure your vote counts!
