I'd like to give a special shout out to my follower uncharted-map who encouraged me to make this post.
Menstrual cups. I'm guessing most of you know what they are and for those who don't, well I'm going to tell you. Menstrual cups, or "blood catchers" as my bestie likes to call them, are substitutes for tamps and pads. They literally are blood catchers. You insert them into your vagine and pull them out when they're full. There are two basic types of menstrual cups, reusable and disposable. Many of you I'm sure have heard of the "Diva Cup," a brand of reusable menstrual cups. I personally prefer the disposable cups simply because to sanitize the reusable kind you have to boil them in water and that's just too much period contact, even for the period diaries.
I use Softcup which can be bought at your local Wal-Mart
Pros:
You don't have to worry about TSS and you can wear them for up to 12 hours!
They're all around healthier for your vagine! Tampons can leave tiny thread fragments in your vagine and pads can cause rashes.
You can have sex on your period without getting blood all over your partner's schlong! (and yes I did just use "schlong")
You can go swimming with them, just like tamps!
If you're all about saving the Earth, the reusable kind really reduces pollution! And you'll save some $$
Cons
Menstrual cups do require you reach into your vagine to remove them and inserting them can be kind of tricky until you get the hang of it
Although you can have sex with them, be sure you're on BC or using a condom because they help keep sperm in the vagine
Whatever you decide, I recommend you try using menstrual cups at least once, it could change your period-life!
