Lettuce Entertain You
My new favorite thing may be lettuce buns. It adds some veg with the protein and can justify me going to a sandwich place with my friends and family. The possibilities are endless.

Lettuce Entertain You
My new favorite thing may be lettuce buns. It adds some veg with the protein and can justify me going to a sandwich place with my friends and family. The possibilities are endless.
Why Meal Prep Maybe the Key to Everything
It might just be because this week I have business lunches more so than usual, but I am convinced that meal prep is the key to going paleo. I hate food waste, and a mental grocery list can only go so far when it comes to portions and specific foods to get. Plus with meal prep done properly I can make sure not to eat out as much. Time to get prep-ing!
The curse of the Free Lunch
I love where I work. They give us free food, and the occasional catered lunch. Today was one of those days. Today was also the first time I had the catered lunches since going paleo. It was a struggle. They brought in pizza which is a staple of free lunches, and salad. I leaned towards the salad but even so, there was cheese mixed in and dressing (creamy ranch dressing). Still, this was a better alternative than pizza right? I may need to ensure bringing lunch even on free lunch days.
Tea Time
A key component of going paleo is giving up sugary drinks. No pop, juices, milk, energy drinks, and a whole lot of other non-water beverages. It is not that I don’t like water, but sometimes water can be boring. Luckily Tea is paleo! As long as you don’t add sugar or milk to your tea you are in the clear. For that early morning energy boost or just overall drinking I reach for the earl grey. If for some reason I do need to add something sweet to the tea, a drop of honey or some lemon juice will do just fine (and is a great paleo alternative to sugar).
Paleo Walking Path
It is summer aka the best season to take a walk. Walks are the best way to get moving, think and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city (or area around you). This paleo loves to walk through the city-scape as well as near the water.
Happy Hour
As I mentioned in my wine not post, most alcohols are not paleo. However, as was determined in that post, I would not give up wine and ciders because I am a younger person with friends. I also do not understand the hypocrisy of wine and cider vinegars being paleo while their delicious and intoxicating cousin is not.
So I will admit to being periodically paleo in that I enjoyed my beverages at this week’s post work happy hour.
Snack Attack 3: Work Edition
Office Kitchens are a dangerous place. Between visiting clients, birthdays, dip Thursdays, and random placements of leftovers it is tough terrain for the paleo eater.
Prior to going paleo I had agree to run snack time on this day. Typically this is a varity of dips as well as chips. Which I did. After all I had made a commitment, and just because I am paleo does not mean that everyone else is paelo. I took some of the hummus to be polite but I refrained from the chips. So is it dip if there are no chips? The world may never know.....
Zumba Zumba!
With a all diets, there needs to be a balance of movement. Today I went to a Zumba class. I zumba-ed like I never Zumba-ed before! I was able to get out access energy and put the protein that I have been eating to use.Â
Rotisserie Chicken
Thank goodness for rotisserie chicken. My grocery store makes fresh rotisserie chickens for $7 (for the whole chicken)! It is pre-cooked and can be used in multiple ways which makes it perfect for the busy (and lazy) paleo.
Learning how to cook: Spiralizer style
I never thought it would come to this. The day I would get a spiralizer and make veggie noodles. But it has happened, and I am a full believer in its greatness. Not only is the physical labor a good hand work out, but the end result is a fun and different way to eat your veggies!
Happy Father’s Day!
To all of the caveman dads, happy father’s day! May your steak, watermelon, salad, and other summer foods make a delicious dinner for you and your family.
Snack Attack Part 2
As I have stated before, I am a snacker. I am trying to fill the non-paleo snack void with some alternatives. It turns out that there are snack packs for both guacamole  and hummus. These are typically 100 calorie servings, but are perfect as a quick and refreshing paleo snack treat.Â
Red Wine Vinegar
I believe that I have mentioned this before: red win vinegar is paleo. It has less calories than olive oil so it has become one of my go to salad dressings. I usually use it only on salads, but I discovered it for marinade purposes. Now, if only red wine was paleo....
Snack Attack
I am a snacker. My life has been busy since middle school band. My habit is to have smaller meals and snack all day to keep me going. This habit is going to be the hardest to break. Most snack foods are not paleo. Instead of chips, other junk food, I am searching for a snack alternative. Luckily in summer there are berries, and other fruits. So if I feel the urge to snack there are paleo opportunities as long as they are within reach. Time to meal plan.Â
Alternative Dairy
One of the pillars of paleo is that there is no dairy products. No cheese, no cream, and no milk. So how is a periodic paleo supposed to get her calcium. While vitamin supplements are an option, I personally find that, that is a last minute resort.
I decided to try almond milk. It is not as bad as I thought it would be. I would dare to say that it tastes better than regular milk. To bad there is no almond based cheese.

I am sharing some diagrams that I am currently using as a good jumping off point for what I want to buy at the store, or make at home. Be warned a couple of these charts do not contain paleo ingredients, but are at least alternatives if you are only feeling periodically paleo that day. Â My personal favorite is chart 9 which is how to cook vegies.
Paleo Pilates
Part of becoming paleo positive is pairing the diet with exercise. It doesn’t matter what you eat if you do not move. So what did a cavewoman do for exercise?
I’m not running away from any predators any time soon. But jumping to gather food from trees that is more my style. Today I did Pilates. Clearly crunches were done in the paleolithic era right? Only time will tell...
