outofcharacter. I’m here still, I’m just having computer problems and it’s difficult to run more than one browser window at a time.
We are creating a masterlist for every Teen Wolf roleplayer.
The list is here.

Jordan was busy doing absolutely nothing. As he had been for the past few months while assigned to desk duty. After months of trying to figure out exactly why the sheriff had benched him, he still had no idea what exactly he had done to lose the man’s trust. It weighed on him enough that he was contemplating it over a coffee at his desk in between filing reports for the sergeants actually on duty. Starbucks coffee, not the awful gunk the machine was producing today. Which he set down when he answered the young woman that had just entered the station.
❝ Not at all, is there anything that I can do for you? ❞
A moment passed as she stepped forward, then backward, uncertain of where exactly to stand. Ultimately, she decide that it was best to cross the bullpen and stand in front of the deputy, feeling more than a little out of place. Avery cleared her throat, attempting to look as professional as possible.
❝ Hi. Sorry, I didn’t know where else to go. I know this isn’t a concierge desk, it’s a Sheriff’s station, but I was wondering if you could help me out. I just moved here last month and I am... kind of out of my depth. Is there some kind of town info pamphlet or a job posting bulletin board or something? ❞
As soon as the question had left her mouth, she grimaced, a look of apology for disrupting him with what she was certain would be a stupid question.

Driving was still kinda scary even when she had her driver’s license. It wasn’t that she had it that long, in fact, Rohini was a new driver, but she figured that she had to learn, and what better way to familiarize yourself with the roads of your hometown than by driving?
Her mother worried, said she’d drive her girl herself but Rohini insisted that she could manage to go from point A, their house, to point B, Gafner Boulevard by herself. With both her brother and father out and about, her mother, Anjali, had relented.
And when she was nearly there, she saw someone who looked like she’d been standing in the rain for hours. Immediately she pulled over and rolled down the window. ❝ How about you hop on in, cousin? That’s where I’m headed as well.❞
It was a considerable relief when the driver of the car was a girl, apparently Avery’s age or younger by the look of her, and not a greasy man in his fifties. Still, she was completely cognizant of the fact that getting into a car with a stranger—at night, in a town with a truly impressive crime rate—was possibly a recipe for disaster. A moment passed, then two, as she wavered and shifted uncertainly on the balls of her feet. She was lost, and she was cold, and she was wet... and there was a nice girl offering her a ride.
At least, Avery hoped she was nice.
❝ Sorry, ❞ she said softly, stepping toward the car and speaking through the window. ❝ Hitch-hiking horror stories, you know? I really appreciate it. ❞
With only the briefest of hesitations, she pulled on the handle of the car door and climbed inside.

”I feel like it’s my duty to advise you to invest in a GPS. Maps and compasses are so last century.” He laughed a little, wondering just how often she got lost, but held his tongue, before he ended up offending her in one way or another. Putting his foot in it was a gift of his, as he’d been repeatedly told.
”Seven sounds perfect, actually. And you know, I happen to like both denim and flannel. So if that’s your outfit of choice, I am going to be happy.”
“See, this is why you’re a good officer. Deputy, sorry,” she amended quickly, apparently still unused to the term. “You’re not just good at catching bad guys, you also have time to advise lost girls and rescue kittens from treetops. Or maybe that’s supposed to be firefighters.” Avery waved a hand vaguely. The point was still the same, even if the stereotypes got a bit muddled.
Another grin was quickly spreading, something that seemed to be happening a lot more often lately. “That’s sweet, but if I’m going to be a super VIP, I need to dress the part.”

Since moving to Beacon Hills, Avery had felt strange. Different. Dreams plagued her even while she was awake, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong with the town. And now she knew she was right. It was almost two in the morning when she found herself wandering around the wooded area of the preserve, her phone held above her head for reception. Finally, a bar lit up on the screen, and she immediately dialed the first name in her contacts. The moment she heard a click, she let out a sigh of relief and ran one hand back through her rain-soaked hair.
❝ I’m so sorry to bother you, I know it’s late, but something weird happened and I’m out in the middle of the woods and I don’t know where I am. ❞

‘That is true. But in my job I sometimes need to look fierce. Being cute and cuddly wouldn’t do me any favours when dealing with hardened criminals.’ Jordan took a sip of his scalding coffee, letting the rich taste wake him up properly. Since he´d been on night shifts for a while, it was very much needed.
“Okay, sounds good to me. Remind me to give you a map instead of a flower when I pick you up.It seems much more appropriate, given things,” he added cheekily. “That too is part of the service. Definitely VIP service.”
Her fingers wrapped around the cappuccino mug and lifted it to her lips as he spoke, sipping slowly to partly hide the grin growing on her face. Hardened criminals were one thing, but apparently cute and cuddly was capable of working wonders on the ladies.
“A true gentleman. A map could definitely come in handy. Maybe a compass too, for when I get really lost.” Like when she winds up in the middle of the woods at one in the morning for the third night in a row. But that was definitely not coffee date conversation material. The last thing she needed was to scare him off. “So, how’s seven sound? Might take me that long to find something to wear that isn’t made of denim or flannel.”

Jordan smiled a little, at least she was as flustered as he felt. ”Well, I don’t know about that. They always seemed more like the type to help you cross the street than to protect you from bad guys.”
Her words surprised him and he stopped smiling for a moment, giving her a piercing look, trying to find any trace of dishonesty in her words. ”I wouldn’t mind it either,” he finally replied, his smile returning. ”I’ve told you I’ve been here for a few months and it still feels…foreign. Meeting you was actually fun. More than I expected. So…how about we hang out for dinner and see where that leads us?”
“I don’t know, I think there’s something to be said for being kind first and a fighter second.” As her order was placed in front of her, Avery sat forward, tucking her chin into her palm and poking at the whipped cream with one finger.
The way he looked at her definitely shook her. As the silence stretched between them, she couldn’t help wondering if she’d completely misread the situation. He certainly didn’t look pleased about the word ‘date’ being used, and Avery could feel disappointment settling in her stomach at the idea that she might have just alienated the first friend she’d made in this town. But then he smiled again and, despite her confusion, she felt her shoulders slump with relief that she hadn’t completely ruined everything. “That sounds great. You’ll have to pick the place again. I still get lost on my way to the post office.”

”They are not hideous! How can you say that? And wow, a yellow lab? I was seeing myself as something more fierce. A Rotweiller at least.” His eyes widened something at the big and pretty compliment and he felt his cheeks heat up. Please don’t turn into a tomato, please do’t turn into a tomato. ”Right…well…”
The waitress saved him up and he put out his own order, loosening his collar a little. ”The VIP treatment also includes complimentary dinner at one of the best places in town. But only for the super VIPs. We need to see if you qualify.”
She shook her head again. “Oh, no way. Rotweillers are fierce, but so are labs. Even though they don’t always look it.” It was Avery’s turn to flush, a light spatter of pink across her cheeks and nose, and she reached up to rub the back of her neck with one cool hand in the hopes of keeping her chest and neck from turning the same color.
“Well, then I hope I do okay on my initial interview.” For a moment she hesitated, then dropped the joke for long enough to say, “In all honesty, I’d like to spend more time with you. Whether that winds up being a date or just hanging out... I don’t mind.”
dontcallmejordan:
”Puppy? Hm…” For a moment he looked at her differently, like maybe she knew. Secrets were hard to keep in Beacon Hills after all a nd she was nice. Too nice? You’re becoming paranoid, Jordan. She’s just a nice girl.
”Maybe a labradoodle? I can totally pass for one, given the right incentive.” He did his best puppy eye impression, before chuckling. ”Well, truth be told, I only point most people to the coffee shop. I only take the special ones here with me. This is definitely the special treatment.”
“Definitely not a labradoodle. Those things are hideous. You’re more like a... yellow lab. Big pretty eyes.” And there was something else, too. He was easy to talk to, but she felt like there was something natural about talking with him. Probably just the perks of being a good conversationalist.
“Oh, really? So I can consider myself on the Beacon Hills VIP list? What else does the special treatment involve?” While she was waiting for his answer, she turned to the waitress and placed her order.
dontcallmejordan:
”Pounce? What am I, some overgrown kitten?” He rose an eyebrow at her choice of words, before pointing to a small booth to the side of the coffee shop. ”And it’s not entrapment, unless you get caught. Since I trust you never to be caught littering, I think you are safe.”
Jordan laughed himself, sitting down in one of the oversized chairs. It was why he liked the place, it made him feel safe, like nothing was going to attack him fr as long as he was safely ensconced in a plush chair. He kept that thought to himself, though. She was normal. Human, unlike him. ”It’s all part of the Beacon Hills complementary service, ma’am. We live to serve.”
She slid into the booth with a smile, placing her purse on the seat next to her and giving a soft shrug. “I mean, if we’re being honest, I wouldn’t say that ‘overgrown kitten’ is completely inaccurate. Maybe an overgrown puppy,” she added thoughtfully.
Oddly, she seemed to be thinking along similar lines. Here, flirting with a cute deputy in a coffee shop, it made Avery’s concerns seem so far away. It was a lot easier to pretend that she wasn’t losing her mind when the sun was shining through the windows and she was bantering with Jordan. “Oh, I’m a little disappointed.” And yet, her smile never faltered. “Here I thought I was getting special treatment.”

“As long as you’re not going to ticket me for breaking some obscure law that considers rose petals to be littering.” As they slowed in front of the coffee shop, she stepped forward to pull the door open for him, casting him a grin. “Here you are. So do you like the scenery here, or is everything a little too weird for you? Because this town is definitely not what I was expecting.”
”Now that you mentioned it I think there might be a law that tickets people for that very thing. Rose petal littering.” He bowed slightly as she opened the door for him, stepping inside and looking around for a table. ”It’s nice…stranger than I expected, I guess, but nice. The people are great, actually. At least for the most part. And there are always new arrivals that somehow make the day better.”
Avery stepped in beside him, letting the door close behind her, but she seemed more focused on him than on the issue of where to sit. “Oh, I see what this is. You’re trying to get me to break a law so that you can pounce. That’s entrapment, Deputy Parrish,” she said with laughter in her voice.
In all honesty, she’d asked about the town in hopes of some small hint that would give her better insight into whether she was imagining the strangeness or not. But his words caught her off guard and startled a laugh out of her, and she found herself grateful that her hair covered the tips of her ears; they were definitely turning pink. “Oh, is that right? Well, if you give them all this treatment, no wonder they’re so friendly.”

“Sorry, don’t know the place we’re heading to. Next time, though, I’ll definitely act as your flower girl.” Avery wasn’t even trying to keep up the act any longer. The smile that broke across her face was free and easy and as sunny as the light in her eyes. “So what brings a military guy like you out to a tiny town like this? Do you have family here or something?”
”I’ll hold you to that.” So there’s gonna be a next time, he thought, a smile spreading over his features. ”Oh, you know…” A magical tree that apparently needed someone to clean up supernatural messes. ”I just wanted a change in scenery. And Beacon Hills needed a deputy. So here I am.”
“As long as you’re not going to ticket me for breaking some obscure law that considers rose petals to be littering.” As they slowed in front of the coffee shop, she stepped forward to pull the door open for him, casting him a grin. “Here you are.
