Reader Questionnaire*:・゚✧
Hey! I've been reading for pleasure my whole life (when I was a kid I was convinced everyone read fiction books before bed because it was what we did at home 😄). Lately, I've been preoccupied with ubiquitous news reports on how reading comprehension skills persistently deteriorate, especially among the younger generations. So it got me wondering how people who do read for pleasure manage to keep the habit of reading alive "in this economy" 👀
Do you mostly read fiction or non-fiction?
Is reading for pleasure part of your daily routine? If so, how much time a day do you spend on reading?
Do you often binge books?
Describe your average reading session 😁(Do you have a special spot where you get comfortable/is it a hard copy or an e-book/is it day or night etc.)
Do you have a schedule or do you read when you feel like reading?
Have you ever struggled with reading (e.g. issues with concentration/retaining information, learning disabilities etc.) and how did you manage to overcome it?
Can you read multiple books at once?
If you're multilingual, do you intentionally choose to regularly read books in your target language(s) to maintain language proficiency? Is it a habit too, or is it a matter of the book's original language?
How do you usually choose books for your to-read list?
Do you keep track of the books you've read/plan to read?
Do you consider reading manga/comics "reading"?
Do you often find yourself in a reading slump? How long did your ultimate slump take?
If you're an avid reader, please, share your thoughts :3 Reading seems like such a basic thing, but i'm sure everyone goes about it in their own way.
thank you for the tag, @cool-thymus :DD
Usually, it's fiction. I love a good mystery, but I also love high fantasy and some dystopian things. However, as of late, it's been mostly non-fiction because of my studies. I've been reading a lot of papers and textbooks for research and classes.
Nope, not anymore 🙁 I think before university (or even before some of high school), I certainly read nearly every day for an hour or so. I'm too busy now 😞
Sometimes I get bursts of a need to read fiction. When that happens, I'll usually binge a book or a longfic.
I would love to have hard copies, because they are nice to hold and easy on the eyes. Also, they smell good (hopefully that's not weird). However, I've lately been reading on my iPad or laptop these days. Hopefully my vision is still okay 🥲
No schedule, it's just vibes. I have a lot of work, and it's just hard to make a schedule and stick to it for stuff I do for fun.
Not for fiction, really. I've always been able to read and keep up with the plot and characters. It's non-fiction that I sometimes have trouble retaining and understanding information. When this happens, I try to rewrite what the author is saying in my own words (literally, in a notebook or on a piece of paper). It helps. If I have more questions, I just ask my peers or refer to the internet.
I can and have, but I don't like to. In middle school and high school, I would read books I liked reading on top of reading the required novels for my classes. I can, but it's not my favourite.
I am multilingual! However, in speech. I've been trying to improve my writing and reading in my second language, but I'm not yet at the point where I can read actual text. I've been listening to songs and reading the lyrics along with the words to try and improve my reading, and it's kind of working! Maybe I can drift to small articles soon.
Recommendations, usually. Or TV and movies.
I don't really have a system for this. If I see a book, I'll know whether or not I've already read it. I don't track it or anything. For books I want to read, it's usually just based on vibes.
I do! Manga and comics also put forth characters, plot, and a narrative in the same way that a traditional novel does. You could argue that TV and movies do the same, but comics and novels are on paper and are created by hand, rather than actors enacting a screenplay. So, I would say these are reading!
I am currently in a reading slump, haha. I want to say it's been like, 4-5 years? I read, but it's usually textbooks and scientific literature. I don't really read for fun these days. If I ever get out of it, I'll tell you what I did.
Thank you for the questionnaire! I haven't really thought about a lot of this explicitly, and it was nice to have my thoughts organized this way! Can I tag other people?? If so, I wanna tag @mabledonut and @mothervvoid if you guys are up for it :D
