“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
— Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist (via amortizing)
what i always find funny, and this is more about some of the comments and messages i get here on tumblr, is that they seem to think they are doing you a favour. like, they seem to think they are telling you something you hadn't already heard on repeat your whole entire life. also it'll be something so hilariously out-of-date too, like, “you should do this thing that was promising 15 years ago.” like at least try to keep up with our changing reality and don't assume that your lived experience is everyone's lived experience. and don't assume that the person you are talking to just somehow missed the most commonly held perceptions, beliefs, ideas of “common sense”, and repeated clichés of the last half-century. you're not making us look stupid or immature, you're showing how dumb and disconnected you are.
btw, this is not a condemnation of all old people. i have old people in my life who are wonderful and loving and open-minded and always learning new things. let's not let the stuffy overly-divorced internet boomer hosting the most basic bitch porn blogs, taking up oxygen in comment sections, and poisoning the well of discourse, to taint everybody over a certain age. especially since a lot of these internet annoyances are likely just bots, not even real people, or like 3 people running 35 accounts devoted to spreading bullshit and making unpopular ideas seem much more popular than they are.
I hate that when you’re stressed enough your body just starts falling apart. I think it should realize you’re already stressed and don’t need that and start functioning better actually
tl;dr: all "algorithmically" pushed stuff on a newsfeed is mostly ads. nothing that's really surprising form this vulture article, but it is dismal and makes me grateful for one website where you only see things from people you follow WITHOUT horrible short-form video content
What if every viral song, movie, meme, influencer, and celebrity drama in recent memory was the result of a stealth marketing campaign?

this in particular is unsurprising but still. Gross.

since when is being a slut a crime in this family?
i am making everything about being transgender because everything IS about being transgender
when you go out to eat while transgender, you have to consider which bathroom you will be allowed to use and whether that waitress will misgender you. when you sit on the train, you have to wonder if that person staring at you has clocked you or just wants to look at your bag keychain. when you look for clothes you have to go through employees trying to tell you, actually, these clothes are for women/men. you have to avoid stares from mothers who want you to die before stepping within eyesight of their children. you struggle looking in the mirror, you watch how and when you speak, every instance of your life is transgender when you're transgender and often it can be really bad. so i really want to try and emphasize how wonderful it is to be trans and that transness leads to a life worth living. because truly we need to remember this sometimes
i dont want people to just reblog this post only thinking about the bad things. you have to remember that these are not all side effects of being trans, they are side effects of living in a society that does not properly appreciate trans people. being trans is truly very beautiful, there is nothing that can match it. there is no feeling to replicate how it feels to hear someone say your name for the first time. there is nothing that can surpass how wonderful it is to try on clothing you've always wanted, or to see your friends beam and glow when they try on clothing they want. the most beautiful thing is making eye contact with someone in public and not saying anything, but knowing they're like you. being trans is perhaps the best thing ever and everything revolves around it

Bleak House keeps throwing me off, because the plot will move along at a nice clip for a few chapters, and suddenly we'll spend an entire chapter watching some guy we've never heard of eat a meal.
Then it hit me that this is like if you wrote fanfic about original characters. We're just hanging out in the world of Dickensian London, watching little scenes that show off the personalities of the characters, only we're learning about new characters instead of enjoying familiar ones.
So now when we hit a chapter where some stranger eats a meal and has a conversation, I'm just like, "Oh, he's the Freak of the Week. He might be important later. Carry on."
