so tired of people thinking taboo stuff in fiction equals taboo stuff in real life and “you’re a bad person if you write about it or enjoy it”. not to mention how harmful it is to reduce the severity of these things in real life by watering them down to dark fiction, my dude, humans have always enjoyed fiction that is taboo. otherwise there would be no horror movies or slasher movies or movies about wars and murders or any kind of media that wasn’t rainbow and sunshine.

just because you are personally uncomfortable with taboo stuff in fiction doesn’t mean your personal feelings are universal and it certainly doesn’t mean you get a free pass to harass others.

I’ve been into non-con fantasy ever since I was younger than 10 years old! I love reading and writing non-con fics, and I’ve been reading and writing them for almost a decade now. and guess what, I will never condone it in real life. nobody in real life is ever affected by the fictional things I enjoy, because it’s fiction and I am mature enough to separate it from reality. actually, even when I was younger than 10, I always knew that this thing I enjoyed was bad in real life. if a seven year old me could separate fiction from reality, you as an adult should be able to do it too — unless you’re deeply troubled, and in that case you need professional help.

no, you’re not morally better than anyone just because you don’t enjoy certain topics in fiction. you’re a bully if you think you can harass real people over fiction.

put your anger and energy on people who harm others in real life, instead of harassing innocent people for having thoughtcrimes.

So a little bit of context:

On my desk I have this cute Kuromi and My melody erasers that I sometimes feel judge me while I work, specially while I stare at a blank page that is supposed to contain the next chapter of my fics, which is where the phrase "You can edit bad writing, you can't edit a blank page" comes into play; it's the best writing advice I have ever gotten and something I try to remind myself constantly; it means that even if you think it's awful you should write it, you can make it pretty later, first focus on getting it into the page.

Anyways a little while ago I noticed my writing companions share color palettes with my favorite fluffball couple... so yeah, I had to make a fusion between them (under the cut there are individual pics of them + a clean ver. of them together).

occasionally i’ll get a comment or two asking if they can bind my work into a physical copy, at the time i was sceptical so i didn’t respond, mainly bc the work in question was a 4k pwp?? so i assumed it was some bot comment or smth and didn’t respond. just wondering if that’s a common bot comment or did i leave some poor person hanging so ik if i need to apologize </3

as far as I know, that’s likely a real person. not a bot. bot comments will mostly ask you to contact them on discord, instagram, any platforms outside of ao3. or they will ask to “draw a comic panel for your fic” where they will try to make you commission them for the art you’ll most likely not receive. but I’ve never heard anything about bots asking people if they could print out their fics before. if a commenter just asked if they could print the work out then — unless they later ask you to contact them outside of ao3 — chances are that it’s legit. I’d say the commenter, assuming I’m right and it’s a real person, is very thoughtful. because when I print a fic out, I don’t even ask the author first. because it just doesn’t affect them how a reader reads their works. I print out fics all the time, be it my own fics or other people’s fics. because I prefer reading them on physical papers. so yes, I have definitely printed out a lot of pwp fics to read. I bookbind a lot of other people’s fics and I still have them all on my shelf.

but yeah. the etiquette of printing out fics is that it’s fine, people do it all the time, without having to ask the author first, as long as it’s for personal use only. it’s the same as saving a fan art you like onto your phone, or even printing them out. if it’s for personal use, if you’re not sharing or re-uploading or selling it, you can consume it however you want. the commenter is just a very thoughtful person.
