I believe in my heart of hearts that for years after Cinder becomes queen of Luna Kai and Cinder are keeping their relationship private to avoid the "these teenagers are too young and emotionally immature to be world leaders" and "Emperor Kai has Stockholm Syndrome after the kidnapping" and "Selene manipulated Emperor Kaito into having feelings for her" and "The emperor of the commonwealth having future marital ties to and a vested interest in another, once hostile, nation state is a potential national security threat" discourse.

So publicly they are constantly giving PR speak answers like, "My focus is on regaining political and economic stability on Luna, I don't have time to think about romantic relationships" and "Queen Selene and I have a close personal relationship and a beneficial alliance that I hope will serve the commonwealth for generations to come"

But then, simultaneously, Iko has a huge followings on the gossip feeds and constantly comments on and reposts content and conspiracy theories shipping Kaider.

like, comments section on another official press briefing where Cinder refused to answer questions about her relationship with Kai:

Thorne also does this (occasionally) only he's more like: "If Kaider isn't real, where did I get this photo?" And posts a ridiculously badly photoshopped picture of them kissing.

It's funny to me that Cinder turns off the kiss counter in her brain because "she didn't care how many times he kissed her. She did care that every kiss no longer felt like their last," and that is sweet and amazing and romantic but I know for a FACT that if Kai had a kiss counter he would be counting every. single. one. And you BET he would be celebrating all the milestones.

I really like that Kai's first impression of Cinder wasn't "wow, this is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen," but instead "she was pretty, but not exceptionally so. Not noticeably so, until you bothered to look. Kai realised, with some surprise, that he was looking."

In reality most people aren't supermodels but are simply average-looking, but they can be beautiful in the right person's eyes. And so later when he tells Levana that "Selene is more beautiful than you could ever be" he doesn't mean in looks alone. He means in every encompassing way.

In the lunar chronicles universe there are hour long compilations of every time Cinder or Kai has ever accidentally called the other by their informal name during an official government meeting or press conference

And then it’s just clips of Cinder going “Kai— Kai— Emperor Kai— Kai….to—“ Kai calling her Cinder instead of Selene over and over again.

I see a lot of posts about how Percy isn't the point of the story in pjo and the story is about the Thalia-Luke-Annabeth narrative and I do agree to a great extent but I do also think it needs to be said the reason why percy is the narrator and not one of them is because he is the cycle-breaker - without him it would have stayed a tragedy but because of him it changed. This is most obvious in how he rejects immortality and instead demands greater support for half-bloods, obviously, but also he trusted annabeth enough to give Luke the knife! he disliked the gods enough to understand Luke even if he didn't agree with his methods and I think that empathy is so so crucial actually! The T-L-A story is built like a mythological tragedy, Percy exists to break the cycle of the story, he's the hero that ends happily.
