TRUST DOESN’T COME EASILY – she’s always been a hard won woman where trust is concerned && she trusts only a very, very small handful of people that included herself && her owl. he was currently weighing heavily on the side of suspicion where she’s concerned && she’s two seconds from just having him arrested on suspicion of being a spy.
he isn’t helping himself – though she’s always had a way of being intense with anyone in any general interaction. but her gaze scrutinises every part of him, just looking for any break in him, any tiny little flinch or sign that he’s lying. though he’s lucky, her attention is pulled away by the sword he pulls out && the string of words he spews.
❝ so, you came here to insult our weaponry. right – well, i’ll let xavier && my dad know that we’re not doing well enough && that arcadia’s going to be giving us an entirely new sword armoury on their coin. ❞
eyebrow quirks at the boy – hazel gaze back to searching him for clues, held in an intensely investigating stare. she doesn’t really believe a word he’s saying – a gift of peace was certainly one thing but a new set of swords to tighten their security seemed odd to her after they sent someone to snoop on them. generally gifts of peace were just sent && dealt with – new daggers, new shields – they tested themselves && figured out if they’d put them into use or not.
weapons – however – from other kingdoms always intrigued her. unfortunately, if it was a set for the guard, well, she wouldn’t be getting one to keep even if she was the captain’s daughter.
❝ throw in an extra sword for me, huh ? then maybe i won’t tell them how suspicious you acted – no embarrassment for you except in front of me. you seem to know your stuff, anyway – but i’ll be keeping an eye on you personally. ❞
there was never a moment of his life where he WASN’T putting his foot in his mouth. every other word that fell out of him might as well have been a death sentence - that is , if he wanted to be extremely dramatic about things. it wasn’t the biggest blunder he’d ever made , but he sure wasn’t helping his cause.
the guard in front of him , he assumed she was a guard at least , didn’t have the most friendly expression on her face but she was nothing compared to the trolls of the market , or to the multitude of other terrifying fae he had encountered. not to say that she wasn’t slightly terrifying ; humans , he had found , brought with them their own sort of terror. it was a fact he hadn’t even noticed until he became trollhunter. being a human himself it was something he never thought to pay attention to.
the way an eyebrow quirked , or a lip snarled , a tightness behind a smile or a frown. trolls were much more straight forward with their intentions but a human ? a human could be hiding anything behind their eyes.
but he had been meddling in a place he wasn’t meant to , so it was time to own up to that fact.
❛ no not insult ! i would never , i mean i guess i could see how it could bee seen that way but - no ! no your weapons are fine. quite lovely. and i’ll be sure that you’re fitted with the finest obsidian diamond blades that we can offer. ❜
he was going to have to explain to the forge why they were using their skills to make swords for another kingdom , but it was worth it to make sure that corona wasn’t enchanting their weapons against the seelie court. he would help of course , vendel had been teaching him the ways of weaponry.
❛ i’ll forge your sword myself as a matter of fact ! i’m pretty handy with a sword you know. i mean , i’d have to be , being the trollhu . . . huuuuuu . . . huuuuuh what a nice lighting in this room , didn’t notice it before. ❜
