Last Wednesday I had one of the strangest gigs ever. I played Bard to a pair of adventurers, one of whom was attempting to solve the clues, beat the challenges and earn the rune stones that would allow him to marry his bride this past Saturday. (Spoiler: He made it).

In the first of these two videos I played mandolin and serenaded the intrepid venturer as he went forth the ride the mechanical bull at the Wild West Casino hotel.

Later, serenaded him after he failed (actually we discovered that the bull doesn’t run on Wednesdays).

Gordon Lightfoot has certainly been an influence on me. Certainly, he has influenced my singing, and possibly my songwriting. I’ve definitely sung my share of his songs.

This is one I hadn’t done before, but which I thought would be nice on banjo.

A brand new Pete Glaze original song: This one is called “Pocket Full of Druthers.” You heard it here before almost anybody! 😂

This song, written by Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention, has been covered by Judy Collins and many other singers — almost all women. I’m not sure why this is, but it’s a great song that I enjoy singing.

I wrote this sort-of Easter song as a guitar/bass/drums based rocker a few years ago, but this is a solo banjo version.

I got to my job a few years ago, the day after Easter, and found that someone had brought in a plastic bag of broken chocolate bunnies parts.

There was one candy eye staring forlornly out of the bag, which seemed very sad, and prompted the song.

I wrote this song on guitar, but decided to see what would happen if I played it on banjo, too. The world did not end.

Why my brain decided now was the time to write a song based on The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is above my pay grade 😂

Sometimes songs are called into existence by political unrest or because the times we live in are crying out for them to be written.

This is NOT one of those songs.

There is no reason for this song to exist other than that my crazy brain decided it needed to write it. It is neither timely nor important.

It is merely improbable.
