TUMBLRICO!
I made this for you today. It’s the scene in Hamilton that goes between “Dear Theodosia” and “Non Stop.” I made a decision not to record this scene on the album, for two reasons 1) It really is more of a scene than a song, the only SCENE in our show, and I think its impact is at its fullest in production form. 2) As someone who grew up ONLY listening to cast albums (we ain’t have money for a lot of Broadway shows, like most people) those withheld moments were REVELATIONS to me when I finally experienced them onstage, years later. Hamilton is sung through, and I wanted to have at least ONE revelation in store for you. I stand by the decision, and I think the album is better for it.
I know, I know. “But what about people who won’t get the chance to see it…” I know. “And Laurens is already so underrepresented in history…” I KNOW. THAT’S WHY HE’S SO PROMINENT IN THE SHOW. So here’s where we meet in the middle. The missing scene is above. Please understand that the reason I left this scene off the album is precisely BECAUSE I value it (and Laurens) so much. Happy #Hamiltunes listening, Tumblrico. This is your extra credit reading. Yr Obd Serv, Lin-Manuel

I will never forget the Grafitti Pete x Sonny tweets
I recently started seeing a professional opera singer. He’s an ensemble member. I don’t know anything about opera and he seems pleased enough to talk to me about it, but do you have any recommendations for where to start with operas?
For the record, his favorite opera is called Daughter of the Regiment. And he described it as “French soldiers find an orphaned girl on a battlefield and decide to raise her. Years later when her partner wants to marry her she’s like “okay but you have to impress my 40 French fathers” and that sounds like a great opera to me. Love a silly story.
Ah yes! La fille du régiment, which is a silly story about how to impress your girlfriend's 13-25 dads, and also some woman who technically gave birth to her, I guess. It's a riot! I can recommend the Met Opera's version, which is fun and charming, and doesn't try to get too complicated with it; I watched it with a friend a couple years ago.
(Akhnaten, which I also watched with that friend, is....not that. Wildly impressive! But Philip Glass doesn't know how to write music that's 'not complicated'.)
The point is that if you are taking your first, tentative steps into opera, I encourage you to start with whatever jives with your taste. Some people love a harpsichord and a plot that only vaguely makes sense, in which case there are many, many baroque operas to enjoy. (I particularly like this production of Camdus et Hermione, and this delightfully staged production of Hercules---the Handel opera I saw this weekend falls into this category too.) Other people want some musical heft, but aren't willing to travel too far down the path---Mozart is great if you're in this category, there is a wonderful version of The Marriage of Figaro on youtube; there's an English language Die Zauberflote or The Magic Flute. Donizetti, who wrote Daughters of the Regiment, showed up just as this chapter of musical history was closing.
Or hey, maybe you want something with real weight---this is where you get into the Romantics with a capital R, your Verdis and Puccinis, your Tchaikovskys and Wagners. This is when opera starts to sound like opera, whether it's high drama and slightly scandalous (Bizet's Carmen, when it first premiered was considered wildly naturalistic and shocking) or a warmly comedic journey (if The Tales of Hoffman has a moral, it's 'Poetry Is Better Than Sex'). If you have a robust library nearby, they probably have at least a few filmed operas from this era in their catalogue. If you don't---youtube is lousy (really) with (yes) options (so many options).
And....well, honestly, this is the point where I tend to tap out; past the Romantics you get into modern or contemporary operas, and I connect a lot less. (I just can't hang with Britten, I'm so sorry.) That said, I ended up loving this double bill of Gilbert & Sullivan + a contemporary opera about sex and politics, and I have a weak spot for The Exterminating Angel, which is deeply inexplicable and fascinating. I've seen a few others on stage that I could suggest---but I would reserve this category for when/if you've tried out the others and decided you absolutely love opera.
Or hey, maybe you're the kind of person who listens to skrillex music on repeat! In which case, please find your way to a Philip Glass opera immediately. He wrote them specifically for you.
MICHAEL MELL 2019 HOODIE REFERENCE !!!
hello i’m sorry i’ll be back to my usual object show art shit soon i promise 🙏🙏 BUT i used a 3d model [ this one ] and countless references to make a complete reference of michael mell’s bway hoodie !!! probably messed some of the patches up , wrong placement or whatever but eeehhh . . mb if i did
ALSO !!! THIS tumblr blog was a big help w/ finding some of the pngs ^_^ !! i used promotional pictures and videos from the official youtube to try and find out every single one of the patches !! except i could never make out one . . [ if anyone knows what it is PLEASE TELL ME 🙏🙏 ] you can see said patch plus my struggling under the cut :3 !!
Adding on with some images of patches on his back! Because I was watching a video and got some good screenshots of the patches on his back! (It's on George's youtube channel)
So he has these two patches that I have managed to find that are on his left shoulder
He seems to have a floppy disk i think? I can't figure out what the yellow/orange one is because whenever we have michael with his back facing any camera it's always blurry and moving
The other patch is on his right side and it's just called a DEVO patch, you can find them on ebay
Hope this helps other people who are wanting to get most/all of his patches :D
(Edit to add on one more patch)
On his right shoulder/arm he has a blonde patch! It looks like this
I think i figured out the mystery yellow/orange patch, maybe
So I tried to draw it, maybe to reverse image search it somehow, but then realised
It looks awfully like the peace/love sign things?
Maybe it's just one of those? It would match the shape and the lines on the patch?
Although it doesn't have the circle around the "thirds"
Anyone's guess is as good as mine to be honest, I mean i am sat here analysing a hoodie from 5 years ago
i think i know what the mystery patch is!! The atari logo on a yellow background. I got the idea that that's the answer from here but they don't have a pic.
I couldn't find a pic either so i recreated it here
and as a bonus for deleting the original version of this post, here is some extra content!!
I recently did a michael cosplay (I will not provide pics, don't wanna post myself online, just imagine the 2015 design with a pride flag on one shoulder as well), and wanted a mountain dew red bottle
I wasn't going to settle for Code Red (2001), I wanted the older Red (1988), but couldn't find a scan of it, so I recreated that too and printed it out.
So, as a thankyou for this post being helpful in my hoodie creation process, here is my Mountain Dew Red label!!
and here are the pics I used for the patches. My bestie (who went as Jeremy) and I printed them out on heat transfer paper, ironed that onto some fabric, and used some iron on stuff to attach it to the hoodie.
and here are all the sites I referenced, along with this post
The Unofficial Michael Mell Cosplay Guide This guide will cover productions from 2015 to 2020 including the London production of Be More C
Throughout the musical, with the exception of Jake Dillinger's party, Michael wears a red hoodie decorated with various patches. At that par
I also found this youtube link for the design on the back but i didn't end up doing that.
as well as the pics I have saved of it
My copy of Spring Awakening: Into The Flesh arrived today
"oh boy can't wait to read more about my favourite musical ---what the fuck do you mean you think hanschen would have been a nazi"
Rip Mortiz Stefiel you would love hrt
love that everytime i show someone spring awakening i have to preface it with: "its a little freaky don't mind that"

Hey have you ever thought abt how Cinderella’s prince never actually calls her by her actual name. In the first act, he only refer to her as ”the beautiful, young maiden in a ball gown” and in the second act calls her ”darling”.
It really shows how he actually does not know Cinderella that well and married her knowing her as, well ”the beautiful young maiden”.
How Into The Woods defines ”Nice”
I love how Into The Woods uses the word ”Nice”. Throughout the whole musical, we can see that it sees the word as something that may seem sweet, but deep down only makes it seem “good” to cover up how morally wrong it actually is.
I think one of the biggest telling to the word ”nice” is this line in Little Red’s ”I Know Things Now”:
”Nice is different than good”
She basically had a whole number on why you should always do right even if something else seems nice, hence the lyric.
Just some songs after this number, we can see the usage of this word coming up again in Cinderella’s ”A Very Nice Prince”. This is foreshadowing to her future husband cheatinh on her in act 2. Even the actor of Cinderella’s prince also plays the wolf, another character being described as ”nice.”
“Last Midnight” however, has a powerful lyric which completely describes the whole musical.
”You’re so nice. You’re not good, you’re not bad, you’re just nice. I’m not good, I’m not nice I’m just right.”
She is telling them that saving Jack might seem like the good thing to do, when in reality, the good thing to do (except for killing the giant that they to in the end) is to sacrifice Jack to safe everyone else.
The whole musical’s entire moral is basically how no one is truly good, we’re all just ”nice”. Even the fairytale characters who seemed to get their happy end and the consequenses being basically non-enxistent to them.
We try our best to do what seems good for our situation but end up not seeing the bigger picture and picking the wrong choice, because it is the ”nicest”.
i love headcanoning the narrator as the bakers son not because it creates a nice circle that fits well conceptually but because can you IMAGINE getting your shit donked in by your dad, your mom, this high schooler with a knife who started following them around, their old gay neighbor, and a good chunk of the royal family

WICKED - Representation from the book that should have been carried over to the musical
Keep reading
I don’t think we talk enough about how the entirety of Wicked is built on the irony of No One Mourns the Wicked. The musical exists because Glinda feels the need to tell Elphaba’s story, because she is in mourning and entirely alone in that. Glinda’s love is what creates the musical because no one mourns Elphaba except her, and that is an incredibly lonely place to be. She’s just lost two of the most important people to her, and all she’s trying to do is make someone, anyone else see how important they were.
