Well, what do we do when I wanna get the feeling from you that we’d get from a hug?
....
I feel like I just clogged the dash.
ryanjamvson:
“Plain? You’re anything but plain.” Ryan shrugged. Sure he might have based it solely on her looks as the male stripper didn’t know her personally yet but wasn’t that all the bussiness was all about? He was surprised she wasn’t scoring a lot of movies. “So, what do you do for a living? If I may ask.” He asked with a gentler smile. “Yeah. It was pretty horrific. I think charming an animal into a submission would take a lot of effort.” He laughed. “You think I can do that though? Is this your way of saying I’m charming?” He grinned. “Goldfish seems like an exciting pet to have.” Ryan teased.
Elsie shook her head as he continued to compliment her. Sure, people in the past had complimented her. However, it was always behind a compliment about her siblings. ”Judging by your generally alluring looks, calm posture, and persistence to compliment me to make sure i’m at ease- “ She looked him up and down. “I’m saying you could be charming.” Elsie paused, not able to hide her not-so-subtle-know-it-all smirk. “From a detective’s unbiased third party opinion.” She was careful to add in her occupation. The last thing she wanted was for the conversation to grow awkward. “My goldfish and I were very happy our two weeks together. Thank you very much.” The sentence trailed off into laughter. “What do you do?”
fire-and-bronze:
“Hey it’s good to get out once in a while. I’m firmly convinced that work madness is a thing.” She chuckled briefly. “Don’t worry about it. See, off time is good. I’m in the habit of taking full advantage of it, which right now outwardly looks like more work but…” Talia shrugged. “I like it so that’s how it’s gonna be for a while.”
“Well, since you do seem to be the relaxation expert- what do you suggest I do to take full advantage?” Just because Elsie was a detective, didn’t mean she was above taking advice from anyone. “Most of the time I just stay in my apartment and down myself in donuts and wine. Sometimes a few chicken wings here or there.”
samanthcalcott:
“
“The donuts are nice, especially the glazed ones.” She could tell that it was beginning to grow awkward again and she considered telling her sister to drive faster, but wouldn’t that make things even more tense? If she wanted to really try out independence, she should probably stop running over and over again. Plus, she kept telling herself this wasn’t so bad. An awkward conversation beat running off and possibly causing more attention to be focused onto her. She’d rather shrink entirely. The question made her perk up, blinking. “Sorry?” She was quick to add more words, letting her know that she heard what she said, and was just trying to process. “It’s, um. What’d you like to know?”
As soon as the question escaped her lips, she couldn’t help but to notice how uncomfortable the girl actually was. Then again, she couldn’t blame Samantha. Elsie had been the total clutz who was now completely imposing on her day. “Shit- I mean damn- fuck.” She didn’t realize she had started to speak aloud and quickly caught herself. “Sorry, I promise i’m not insane. I just totally lead with something I ask a suspect.” Elsie took a deep breath and shook her head, There wasn’t any going back now, and if there was one thing else was- it was honest. “Judging by your posture and your eyes consistently glancing from the phone on the table and to the door.” She took a moment to glance at the door before looking back to at Samantha. “I’m detective, and if i’m being completely honest socializing isn’t my strong suit. But i’m trying to be more “lit” is that the proper term...or is it “on fleek?” She waived a hand. “Either way, I was meaning to say what lead you here to the diner this morning. Do you come often?”
noorxkhalaf:
She smiled, pleased her new acquaintance seemed to be in high spirits. “Mmhm. There’s no use in feeling bad about something that could have happened to anyone,” she assured, nodding when she asked whether it was a place Noor visited often. “I’ve been here a few times. Can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed by the food or service.” A soft laughter escaped her lips. “That’s alright. I was just finishing my meal. I could join you for a cup of coffee, though, if you don’t mind.”
“That sounds great actually.” Elsie smiled and as if right on queue the host showed back up to continue to guide them to the table. “I don’t really get out often, especially to restaurants.” She continued as they made their way to the table. If Ellie was being honest, most of her diet consisted of donuts, wings and take out. It wasn’t like she didn’t like to go out, but every time she did it seemed chaos erupted. As they sat down Elsie kept eye contact with the woman. “I’m Ellison, but you can just call me Elsie.”
danielle--bradford:
Danielle was honestly a little shocked when the young woman offered her her blazer. Usually, she would’ve decline but considering her dress had practically become sheer, she took it. “Thank you so much.” She could see how apologetic the woman was and she knew that it was obviously an accident. “Yeah, I’m fine.. It’s just water, it’ll dry.”
“Well, at least let me pay for you lunch.” Despite the young woman’s calm demeanor she couldn’t help but to still feel guilty. “Typically my blast zone spares civilians.” Elsie rubbed the back of her neck nervously. Fifteen minutes. It had only taken her 15 minutes to step outside and ruin someone else’s day. “I’m Elsie by the way.”
Favorite childhood movies?
“I didn’t really get to watch movies too often. When I did, I really loved watching The Goonies and The Sandlot. My adolescent thirst for Benny was strong.”
Met any interesting people?
“As a detective I’ve met a lot of people who are pretty interesting. Recently though I’ve grabbed a drink with a therapist, ate a donut with someone who would of rather had a cigarette, was comforted by an absolute angel after my clumsiness got me drenched, and nearly convinced someone to grow out their hair so a chipmunk could live on their head....or was it a squirrel?”

Have you ever wanted to be someone else?
Elsie sat on the couch, staring at the coffee table while an ache all to familiar erupted in her chest. The rest of the house was running around wildly, preparing leave again. It wasn’t often that her parents came back from LA. Even when they did most of the time it was to take her older brother to another TV spot he got. This time, bother of her parents came up. When she found out her younger sister was also going, Elsie had grown excited. However here she was, still waiting to be told to pack her bags.
“Elliot. She is not coming. That’s final.” A hushed voice spoke, but not low enough in the doorway. An ache all to familial began to erupt in Elsie’s chest. She knew she wasn’t going to get to go, and she felt like an idiot for evening thinking she had a chance. Los Angeles was for the beautiful and talented people. Not for girls like herself.
“Cheer up Elsie, maybe next time.” Elsie felt her brother’s hand on top of her head, in an attempt to comfort her. “I’ll bring you back another snow globe okay?” All she could do was nod, as the ache in her chest reached to her throat. “Elliot, come on- your sister is already in the car.” Elsie’s mother spoke up from the doorway. She felt the cold air replace her brother’s hand as he walked away. This was it, if Elsie really wanted to prove herself she would stand up and tell her mother exactly how she felt. How unfair this all was.
But the Elsie was frozen in her spot, and the door clicked behind them without even a goodbye from her mother. Slowly, Elsie pulled her knees to her chest, hugging them close. It felt like that was all she could do to keep it all together.
Her gaze fell upon the magazine her mother had brought with her. The girl on the cover seemed to in her teens, only about 3-4 years older than Elsie. She seemed so effortless beautiful, and happy. Los Angeles was made for people like her. Hell, her family was made for someone like her.
Maybe I was more like her, I’d be enough for for them.
“No, not really.”

ryanjamvson:
“I need to start watching anime again. It should be better than most things on television right now. Oh. Are you an actor? Or at least child actor?” Ryan would not be surprised as she definitely had the looks for the acting bussiness. “I begged for a monkey but a lot of people disagreed with the idea of having one. Thanks to that one incident that went viral where a chimpanzee owner got mauled in the face.” He shuddered. “I had a dog but I had to give him to my cousin since I had to move out years later. What about you?”
“My family does a lot of work in film, but I was a bit too plain for the entertainment industry.” Elsie smiled softly. She was reminded of all the times her parents would come to Indiana to pick up her siblings for another movie or TV spot. However, she was often left alone. She never had that “It” factor her siblings did. “Oh, I almost forgot about that video.” a small chuckle escaped her lips. “I couldn’t see you getting roughed up by a monkey though. You could just charm it into submission.” Elsie though back once again, “I had a goldfish, but that was it. I always wanted a dog but my grandmother was allergic.”
nitaoward:
Nita glanced to the bag of donuts. “Sure.” She didn’t often trust strangers with food, but she needed something to keep her mind occupied and herself from going back upstairs to make her bed and spend her day off doing nothing.
“Wise choice to accept.” Elsie smiled, typically most people looked at her with disgust when she offered a donut. “Kay’s donuts up the street is the best in the city.” A part of her felt bad she didn’t have a smoke for the girl, but it had been years since she smoked. “Boyfriend or friend..or “friend” ?” She couldn’t help but to be curious about the man whom had just left.
