The most genius I’ve ever felt was when I was working in the physics lab. We had installed a camera at a pressure chamber window so we could watch a laser do pulse ablation on a metal plate. However, we had a problem no one could figure out; the laser would phase in and out on our live feed from the camera. The team was freaking out about the possibility of this 30k laser being defective and they were about to take apart the vacuum chamber when I was like “uh... guys? We’re firing the laser at 23 pulses per second.”

Mind you, I’m a sophomore at this point, working with 3 grad students and a professor. I’m at a point in my career where I can barely explain the math behind what research I’m actually doing.

The professor is like “.... Yeah? What about it?” And I explain: “Most cameras film at 24 frames per second. The laser looks like it’s phasing in and out because it’s out of phase with the camera” so we adjusted the pulse per second a bit until it was in phase and shockingly! It worked perfectly. The prof and the grad students just looked.. dumbfounded? And I guess camera fps rates aren’t common knowledge, at least to them. They treated me like I was the smartest person in the room even though the only reason I knew that information was from making gifsets of Pacific Rim when I was in high school

I love characters that have never been loved before experiencing it for the first time. They're taken aback by softness. They're confused by warm words and being cared for. They're almost scared by the loving way they're looked at. Fleeting tender touches send them reeling. Their heart almost feel like it's going to burst. What does it mean? All they know is they don't feel as though they deserve that, even if they reciprocate. It's been proven time again that they're unlovable and yet...

Being treated so gently feels so good and they aren't sure they want it to stop.

I have so much math to do but instead I’m thinking about Uraraka’s quirk. What on earth does it MEAN to “turn off gravity?” What are the physical implications of that?

If something has mass, it has gravity, so is she somehow “negating” someone’s mass? If something became massless, would this then imply they’d ascend to become energy? So if not messing with mass, then, could we consider it instead a simple “untethering” from another object’s gravity? It’s the Earth’s gravity that keeps our feet on the ground, makes what goes up come down, but it would have to be more than that; if her quirk was just negating the Earth’s gravity, you’d still be gravitationally attracted to anything ELSE that has mass—people, buildings. So not only Earth, then, but untethering from ALL gravitational attractions? Completely unbound from anything? Unbound from the gravity of the solar system, the galaxy, even larger cosmic structures?

How, then, does physics in general work around her if she’s simply not bothered by one of the universe’s fundamental forces? Is she apart from our knowledge of physics as a whole, a being separate & beyond our understanding?

What would happen if Uraraka used her quirk by a black hole—gravity taken literally to its extremes, its force so strong not even light can escape. Would Uraraka be able to just float away from it, completely unaffected? But then wouldn’t she be resistant to Thirteen’s quirk, though the finals exam arc clearly shows us she’s not (unless Thirteen used Black Hole before Uraraka’s quirk was activated).

Are there then LIMITS to her power over gravity? Maybe not a negation, but a lessening of its effects? It’s literally not that deep but I’m gonna MAKE IT make sense
