I grew up in fandom spaces where the no. 1 rule is "if you see something you don't like don't interact with it/just ignore it" and I guess that carries on to my irl personality where if I don't like something/someone I will just try to not interact with that thing/person without telling anyone about it
Info on Hermit ice skating, cobbled together from various streams:
It was a surprise for Tangoโs birthday! Heโd caught wind that ice skating was on the docket as a possibility earlier on, but he didnโt think anything was planned for certain and he was worried that it would be public skate. Turns out the other Hermits had rented out the ENTIRE rink for an hour, just for themselves! And they kept it on the down low until they could surprise him day-of. According to Tango, it was Gemโs idea, and Grian and Skizz put it together.
Gem and Tango finally had their skate-off! Tango admits defeat and relents that Gem is the better skater. Might be because she was outpacing him going backwards.
The last time Impulse had gone skating was ten years ago, and upon hearing that he was gonna get back on the ice, his wife had so much faith in him that she immediately looked up the nearest hospital. Yep.
As expected, when he first got on the ice, Impulse initially sucked at it, but by the end of the hour he was COOKING. And even going backwards! Gem complimented him and said he did great.
Gem also said that Impulse gets flaily and spins when he feels like heโs about to fall which is hilarious.
Tango had a boomer moment: Impulse asked him to record a video of him skating so he could show his wife, and Tango ended up recording two or three laps of his own stupid mug. LOL
Impulse was beaming ear to ear the entire time. He had so much fun!
EDIT thank you Inferna: Impulse has expressed very strong interest in joining Tangoโs hockey team. The season has already started, so itโs a bit late to sign up, but Tango said heโll talk to the coach. Stay tuned ;-)
Despite not being on the ice in ten years, Gem can still figure skate! She was doing jumps and spins and stuff and wowing everyone else. She herself described it as โI can still skate as well as a 6-year-old. But I impressed my coworkers, so thatโs what matters.โ
Gem had so much fun on the ice that it might as well have been a treat for her specifically. โIt feels like itโs my birthday too.โ
This video. Nuff said.
Martyn, to the surprise of no one, is good at everything and was immediately a natural on the ice despite skating maybe only once before, years ago. Tango called him a jerk.
There is an adorable photo of Tango helping Pearl learn to skate for the first time which Iโll include below. Skizz says this is possibly his favorite picture from the entire day, because it displays what a wonderful family dynamic the Hermits have with each other.
Tango fell ONCE because he was going too fast, started spinning and almost hit the boards.
The Hermits made good use of the plastic seals that are used as training supports for kids. Skizz said he had to bend all the way down to hold on to the thing. Heโs gigantic. You can imagine how that looked.
At one point Skizz was sitting on one of the seals and Tango was pushing him around. Skizz fell off.
Reportedly, there was a game of Mario Kart using the seals. Grian sat on a seal with Tango pushing him, and Jimmy, Gem, and Martyn were also apparently involved. Two laps. Miraculously no injuries. Cleo has footage.
Cleo took ten steps onto the ice and biffed it. And apparently fell a second time as well. Skating does not appear to be their sport.
Most of the group broke away at one point to play broomball, but Tango, Gem, Impulse, and Martyn kept the skates on until the end of the hour.
The broomball players were encouraged to wear helmets. Skizz did not take a helmet. He fell and nearly ate ice and his own front teeth. Zed begged him to get a helmet. He got a helmet.
Tango admitted that he was possibly the happiest heโs ever happied. โThere was whimsy coming out everywhere.โ
Aiming for poppies and lilacs but I'm too lazy to learn how to draw lilacs so I just drew lavenders
When I want something I always wonder whether I actually want to do it or I just want "the best" label on it

Apparently I started this flipnote 10 years ago. Which is crazy to think about. I decided to dust off my old friend (my red dsiXL) and try again from the ground up on this one.
Ignoring the ethics of boundaries or the morals of limiting creative expression or anything else, setting rules about what people can and can't do with your characters just doesn't work. It cannot and will not accomplish what you want, and it will create a bunch of new problems.
Theoretical goal of banning things you find uncomfortable as a CC:
Bad things you don't like will stop being made and existing about you/your character.
Actual outcomes of banning things you find uncomfortable as a CC:
Bad things you don't like will Still Exist.
Subsets of your community will harass & abuse other fans. Trolls will make upsetting bait content that devoted fans feel a duty to engage with & fight against. Well-intentioned fans who don't know the rules exist will break them and get yelled at. People will arbitrarily interpret rules to bludgeon other fans' headcanons & send hate campaigns after each other. This WILL happen, no matter how many times you caveat with 'but don't harass anyone': You have issued an edict whose only enforcement mechanism is harassment.
Some of the fans who are most viciously defensive of your rules will still create stuff you find uncomfortable. Life finds a way. If you ban peanut butter, the fandom will create a series of intricate excuses as to why ground peanuts with sugar added is totally a different thing, and moreover how dare you imply they would break boundaries. The stuff you dislike won't stop being made, it will just be mislabeled and harder to avoid.
Artists will inevitably make cool shit that technically breaks your boundaries but Is Cool. Engaging with it will get that artist harassed for ignoring your boundaries (even if you say this one is fine).
Less people will engage with your work. You will have a smaller audience and much more limited free advertisement.
Everyone following the rules will create a constant need for judgment about things at the edge of your comfort zone. 'Ask for permission' means you have given yourself a part-time job arbitrating to strangers on whether it's okay to draw you mad at another minecraft guy.
More earnestly: By and large the people who are most online, who take boundaries seriously and actually care about seeking permission, are teens and very young adults. That's who you're setting rules for and telling that they can't depict certain things. The kinksters and smut writers and grown-ass adults are generally going to be unaffected, because their self-esteem doesn't hinge on the approval of a Twitch streamer.
Genuine question: Do you want to have to stare at an ask on Tumblr and consider whether to give permission for some 14-year-old to write a fic about your character self-harming or having cancer or being sexually assaulted? To say yes or no, while knowing that this person is probably asking not out of prurient interest, but because it makes them feel a little less alone to imagine an older, stronger character going through what they are?
That is the actual effect of setting those rules.
(The better boundary, btw, is 'I don't want to see things that make me uncomfortable': it's still not perfectly enforceable unless you entirely abstain from the internet, but it is much more actionable than 'make that stuff stop existing'. Having a dedicated 'don't look' tag blocked solves a lot of problems. Another strategy would be letting friends/trusted fan-acquaintances vet the best work and send it to you to gush about, rather than scrolling your tags at random.)
At some point if you tell stories in a public setting, people will want to pick up and play with those characters too; if you can't handle that (and a lot of people can't, this is not a value judgment) then the role of 'professional public storyteller' may not be for you.
