Welcome to the club!
Remember that time Topanga was trying to prove a point to Cory that looks don’t matter, and it ended up with her cutting a chunk of her hair off and you could legit hear the loud gasps coming from the live audience and everybody almost had a mini heart attack cause lets be real, Topanga’s long hair was legendary. But then everyone calmed down when she walked out the hair salon and slayed everyone’s existence? Cause I sure do.

friendly reminder that there’s a disney show with a jewish boy, a black boy, and an autistic woc (who’s dating the jewish boy btw) and no one outside of the fandom has said a single thing about it
People have been asking about this post so I thought people should know that it’s called Girl Meets World! It’s a sequel to the 90s show Boy Meets World, and believe it or not, once you get past season one the show gets kind of interesting.
The characters mentioned above are Farkle Minkus, Zay Babineaux (that’s bah-bih-nou, btw!), and Isadora Smakle (referred to as Smakle).
This is Farkle.
Although he isn’t confirmed as Jewish until an episode that hasn’t even aired yet at the time that I’m writing this (it airs in five days), episodes are always leaked a week before they air, so by this time the entire fandom knows about this. This isn’t the only interesting part of his character though, but we’ll get to that part when we talk about Smakle.
This is Zay.
His skin color isn’t really mentioned in the show, and we’re hoping that at some point there’ll be an episode about racism, but that’s beside the point of this post. The thing about Zay’s character is that he’s a walking “fuck you” to gender roles. In fact, in one episode he briefly talks about his interests, in which he says that his favorite movie is The Notebook (”Love never dies, man”) and his favorite song is “anything by Celine Dion”. So yeah, he’s amazing.
This is Smakle (feat. Farkle).
Smakle’s first real episode is titled “Girl Meets Smakle”, where she’s introduced as Farkle’s arch-nemesis from Einstein Academy, a school for geniuses.
She appears again in “Girl Meets I Am Farkle”, an episode discussing Asperger’s, a form of autism. The episode’s overview on the wiki is the following:
Riley, Maya and Lucas (the other main characters) emphasize the beauty of being unique as they rally around their friend Farkle Minkus, who may be on the autism spectrum. Meanwhile, his friendship with another student, Smackle, grows fonder.
In the end, Farkle doesn’t have Asperger’s, but in the scene after, Smakle reveals that she does. It’s implied that they start dating after this episode.
So let that sink in: An genius autistic woc is canonically dating someone of another race.
And if that wasn’t enough, wait ‘till I get to the actors.
Amir Mitchell Townes, the person who plays Zay, is a huge advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement. In fact, when the actor of a side character on the show posted some #AllLivesMatter/#BlueLivesMatter bullshit (note: the link contains a rape mention and some gross racist stuff), he posted the following, even tagging said actor:
The rest of the cast is on Amir’s side as well. Hell, the star of the show, Rowan Blanchard, even has him blocked.
Speaking of Rowan Blanchard…
You’ve probably seen this post from @micdotcom (considering the amount of notes it has), but if you haven’t, here’s a brief summary: Rowan is a giant intersectional feminist (side note: feminism and sexism is discussed on the show as well! Here’s a dailymotion link to the episode) and often discusses things such as racism, sexism, cultural appropriation, and homophobia. Also, when it come’s to sexuality and gender, she doesn’t use a label.
On the topic of LGBT, Smakle’s actress, Cecilia Balagot has openly dated both boys and girls. So that make’s two LGBT actresses on the show.
As mentioned, this show has tackled topics such as sexism, cyber-bullying (blah, I know, but the episode is actually really good), autism, and even religious belief.
So yeah. Watch Girl Meets World.
And P.S.: The first two seasons are on Netflix.
