Texas police officer who killed 15-year-old Jordan Edwards indicted on murder charge

The Texas police officer who fatally shot black teenager Jordan Edwards as he left a party in April has been indicted on a murder charge by a Dallas County grand jury, the Dallas Morning News reported on Monday.

Former Balch Springs, Texas, police officer Roy Oliver, 37, fired a rifle into a car of teenagers on April 29 as they left a party. Fifteen-year-old Edwards, a freshman at nearby Mesquite High School, was in the car along with two of his brothers and two more friends. Edwards, seated in the passenger seat, was shot in the head and killed.

Police body camera footage of the shooting showed that Oliver fired into the moving car as it drove away from him, the Chicago Tribune reported on Monday.

Oliver was fired in May after department officials said that his actions had violated department policies. He was charged with murder less than a week after Edwards’ death.

On Monday, a grand jury indicted him on the murder charge as well as four charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by a public official, in connection with the four other teens who were in the car at the time, the Tribune reported. Read more. (7/17/2017 5:30 PM)

Back in 2015 you demanded that the FCC adopt strict net neutrality rules and establish a free and open internet. And you won. 

That should’ve been the end of it. But apparently not.

The new head of the FCC wants to undo the net neutrality protections you fought so hard for.

His proposed changes open the door to your web traffic being slowed down, or even blocked altogether. You could be forced to pay extra to use your favorite apps. You could even be prevented from getting news from the sources you trust.

Title II protects consumers and democracy by ensuring all voices can be heard.

You know the drill. Here’s what to do:

The FCC is taking comments from the public, and dearfcc.org is making it as simple as possible for you to make your voice heard.

You’ll just need to provide a name, an address, and then say a little bit about why rolling back Title II protections is a bad idea. If you’re not quite sure what to write, here’s something to get you started:

I’m writing to urge you to keep our Open Internet rules based on Title II in place. Without them, we could lose the internet as we know it.

The proposed changes to FCC rules would allow fast lanes for sites that pay, and force everyone else into slow lanes. We’ve already seen access to streaming services like Netflix, popular games like League of Legends, and communication platforms like FaceTime slowed down, or even blocked. Conditions like this hurt businesses large and small, and penalize the users who patronize them. 

The changes also open the door to unfair taxes on internet users, and could also make it harder for blogs, nonprofits, artists, and others who can’t pay up to have their voices heard.

Please leave the existing existing net neutrality rules based on Title II in place.

as I write this, I haven’t slept a wink in two days because of the chaotic nature of the last couple of weeks. I’ll keep it short. me, crashing with my grandma, who has over the course of the past few weeks become so hostile to the point where I am no longer welcome in her home.

my boyfriend was living with his father and dad’s girlfriend, but both are wildly abusive and to top it all off, wildly homophobic and bigots in every way. 

we’ve both been sleeping in his car, and as the Universe tends to work, his alternator gave out. we get paid tonight, but essentially all of our paychecks are going to fixing the car, getting what little food we can muster, paying car bill, and covering at least 6 days of a hotel. 

and I need to get a binder that fits me before I flip the fuck out lol. 

so, basically, a hotel room for a week is $279, that’s the cheapest I could find. I’m gonna be picking up literally every hour I can from here on out but we won’t get paid for another two weeks. please, if you can help, do so.

The NYPD is helping a “Gotham” actor find his missing transgender child, officials said Wednesday.

Actor Donal Logue, who plays Harvey Bullock on the Batman-inspired drama on Fox, reported to police Tuesday that Jade, 16, never came home after meeting up with a friend at the Barclays Center in Fort Greene.

Logue, 51, said Jade, who is transgender, identifies as female and changed her name from Arlo to Jade on several social media sites within the last year. Jade left home about 3 p.m. Monday.

Logue reported the teen missing to police about 1 a.m. Tuesday, an NYPD spokesman confirmed.

The actor also tweeted about his child’s disappearance.

“Missing- yesterday at 2PM Barclays Center/Fort Greene Brooklyn: my child, Jade Logue. 6'2" 180 lime green hoodie dark green military parka,” Logue tweeted.

Logue took the tweet down after his fellow actors Olivia Wilde, Mark Ruffalo and Stana Katic spread the word about the disappearance, according to heavy.com.

Attempts to reach Logue or his agent for comment were unsuccessful Wednesday morning.

My understanding is that NYPD do have the power to force the return of minors, so if you’re uncomfortable contacting police try the National Runaway Safeline which offers confidential support.

You might feel like you’re intruding on family issues, or betraying a trust, but it’s better than regretting after the fact. 

We buried my sister-in-law last year, a gorgeous trans girl just a year older than Jade, and she will never know how loved she was - never get to live the life she should have had. And, yeah, it’s comparing apples and oranges, but no parent wants their last memory of their daughter to be the formal identification of her body, trust me.

Jade left on purpose. That needs to be emphasized. People are hunting her down and if she is returned to a family she does not want to be with it could be disastrous and for all we know they could bury her regardless. It is absolutely imperative that we let people know she ran away. There are resources to guide her to and ways to help her stay safe but the only way she can be safe is if she is allowed to escape to a place where she is not being harmed. Her father misgenders her and she has made posts wanting to leave. She does not want to be “home safe”. It’s terrifying to me that this poor girl might be forced to go back to a transphobic and possibly abusive home just because some well meaning morons online thought she needed to be caught for her own good. Help my disabled mom leave my abusive dad

I don’t want to make this post. I’ve been putting it off because I thought that with time, the problem could go away on its own. It hasn’t.

My mom is a 53 year old woman with cauda equina syndrome. She was t-boned by a man running a red light and developed the condition in the 2000′s. Her Cauda Equina is a progressive and permanent condition which she will never recover from. She is losing the use of her legs and feeling in the lower half of her body, and she will someday be paralyzed. She falls down often and is too weak to stand on her own; she uses trekker poles to walk.

My father is an abusive alcoholic who beats my mom. He has been beating her since she was pregnant with me, at least. In the past year and a half, he was laid off and then fired from his career of 10 years, and started taking his rage out on my mom at night. These screenshots, from last week, were taken after the last time he beat her, which I hoped would be the last time. But last night, he beat my mom for refusing to have sex with him (she currently has a kidney/bladder infection and kidney stones, which got really bad before they were treated, because, again, she has little feeling in her lower body.) He has also raped her in the past while she was unconscious from her prescribed medications.

I don’t know where to turn. My mom needs to get as far away from my dad as she can. She doesn’t want to go to the police because he will retaliate. She has no money and few places to go. I think that if I could get her some money and send her down to Idaho to live with one of her (few remaining) friends she might be able to have a better life.

I don’t know how much I should be aiming for here. My mom needs transportation from Montana to Idaho, she needs money to survive down there, and she’s going to need money to buy a wheelchair.

I’ve tried making posts like this before to gather donations and get her out of my dad’s house, but the posts didn’t generate any money. If she had money, she could get away from him.

I’m scared for my mom right now. She’s not allowed to leave the house unless she’s coming to see me, she’s not allowed to have friends, she’s barely allowed to use facebook to communicate with family members. My dad has cut her off from everyone who cares about her. She’s a frail tiny woman and I’m afraid of what’s going to happen to her if she stays in my dad’s house any further. He punches her, throws her around, and is generally very physically abusive.

I’m afraid to make a youcaring/gofundme and risk my dad seeing it. If he knew what I was trying to do for my mom, I don’t know what he would do to her or me.
