amber sketch from a few weeks ago
Something finally complete, as it should have been.
Fitz has one (1) good dream in Assassin's Quest, it is him living with Molly, Nettle, Nighteyes, and the Fool. The poor boy just wants to live with his wife, daughter, wolf-brother, and magically confirmed soul mate. His pack.
drew some small acrobatics fools !! (x, x, x, x, x)
The Gray Beggar
(study of Mary Magdalen in the Cave (1868))
every time a new reader finishes ROTE and goes oh wow the Fitzloved stans actually weren't deluded, Fitz and the Fool's deep connection and all the shit that came along with it actually happened on the page canonically idk if an angel gains their wings or anything but I sure as hell gain 10xp of "like we've been fucking SAYING" validation lol
Stormblessed. Happy first anniversary to me for falling head over heels in love with these books!

listen. we all love fitzloved but listen.
amber/paragon is SO compelling to me.
it's literally the greek myth of pygmalion and galatea. the carver creating their ideal soulmate, that comes to life.
paragon soaks in the life and misery and blood and emotions of everyone he comes into contact with, and is torn apart by everyone's expectations and disappointments in him. but amber is able to hold herself apart from him, and she remains totally mysterious to him. she does change him, but not in the one-sided way everyone else had. and she gives him his vision back.
amber is the carver who is obsessed with their muse, their ideal soulmate. and paragon is literally named paragon, the representation of all that is virtuous and beautiful. but the etymology of paragon goes back further. it referred to a touchstone, that would test the purity of gold. back further, it meant "to sharpen"
amber is associated with gold, and also carving knives. really what this reveals is an aspect of fitz/fool's relationship. the catalyst will be the chisel chipped and dulled for the sake of the world, for the broken tool is that which will pry open the future. fitz is her tool that must be broken. but paragon parallels fitz in many ways, and his name means 'to sharpen'.
the difference between amber and pygmalion is that pygmalion carved his ivory woman because he was disgusted with the women he saw. amber carved the man she loved. the difference between paragon and galatea is that she was perfect. both were made against their own will and paragon's story reflects the darker side of that.
but galatea isn't really a human woman, though aphrodite breaths life into her. she is too perfect. paragon will never be human either, nor amber, but they are much closer, they are human by proxy of their loved ones. that's why it's so important that amber carves paragon with all his scars and his crooked nose.
its like an anti-fairy tale. it doesn't end in happily ever after, paragon isn't fixed by love, he never becomes a real man. they are both flawed and real. the end.
Unbelievably I finished these series of illustrations. It's been both love and a struggle. They're the pieces of my heart.
Part 3
Fitz and the Fool, as a beggar Fitz and the Fool, as Amber Fitz and the Fool at the end
Here's Part 1 and Part 2 🙂
How it feels to read The Tawny Man Trilogy
fitz going up to beloved like “LOOK AT THIS NECKLACE I WAS TOLD WILL MAKE PEOPLE LIKE ME IF THEY SEE IT ON ME LMAO ISNT IT DUMB”
and beloved being like “WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PUT THAT AWAY”
*sigh* …. i love my oblivious gay and my yearning gay

Long time no see!
I didn’t die, I had just decided to focus on learning. I found a mentor, gnawed my way through fundamentals and have just started anatomy. My personal art is not getting better, as far as I can tell, but maybe it’s because people have lots of parts and I’m only starting to learn those.
Anyway, here’s my new work for @winterfest-gift-exchange-v2
I had the hardest time choosing between several Fitzloved moments and eventually went with their reunion in “Fool’s errand”, the gay edition. I mean, it was pretty gay in the first place, but you can’t convince me Fitz didn’t actually lift the Fool off the ground. That’s how I remembered the scene before rereading it specifically for this piece, and that’s how I still choose to envision it xD Fitz just forgets to mention some details, you know how he is.
“would you continue, if i asked it of you? as a friend?”
the white prophet and the catalyst, rather name them as they are, the Fool and the idiot.
