Hello! I love Those Three Words and I don't even usually read a/b/o! I was wondering, how do Victor and Yuuri break the news to Yuuri's family that Salchow is Yuuri's baby? I was hoping for a scene of that and it didn't have one, but I was wondering how Yuuri's parents would first react! Thank you!
Thank you, nonny! I know, that’s the scene that everyone keeps asking about - truth is, I didn’t write it because none of the characters seemed to want it written. But I spent the evening thinking about it, and I’ve come to the following conclusions:
Yuuri told his parents without Victor’s presence. Victor didn’t even know he was going to do it - I mean, I’m sure Victor knew it would happen at some point, but they didn’t discuss beforehand and Victor was probably asleep at the time anyway. Yuuri wouldn’t have wanted him there, because he wouldn’t have wanted Victor present if it went badly. (Not that it ever really would have gone completely south, but Yuuri was thinking worst-case-scenario.)
Hiroko and Toshiya had mostly figured it out already, or at least they suspected. I mean… here comes this Russian bloke out of nowhere who their son has had a crush on since forever and he’s pregnant and eating every plate of Japanese food Hiroko can give him, almost faster than she can make it. Dude. Of course that baby is Japanese, and of course that baby daddy is Yuuri.
When Yuuri tells them, though, he paints the situation as entirely his fault, emphasizing that he “took advantage” of Victor in his “delicate” state and that he will take “full responsibility” for his actions and that Victor is “entirely blameless” and has done the “best he can” and so on and so forth. It is painfully obvious to both Hiroko and Toshiya that Yuuri doesn’t want them to blame Victor at all, in any way, and fully expects that if they’re angry in the slightest, it should be directed at him.
In truth, Hiroko and Toshiya are a little bit annoyed at Victor, too, because let’s face it, it takes two to make a baby and hearing Yuuri claim to have seduced another guy entirely on his own whiles is… well, both kinda hysterical and unbelievable because Yuuri probably can’t seduce a piece of paper and also totally ridiculous because pheromones are pesky, unpredictable things, and if Yuuri was putting out enough while drunk then no doubt Victor was as well. Also they’ve seen Toshiya drunk, they’ve experienced Toshiya drunk, they know that score very well.
However, rather than invoke the wrath of Yuuri, because there’s the very real possibility that he’s going to up and disappear to Detroit for another five years, this time taking Victor and Baby with him, they decide the best course of action is to humor him, so they foist all their annoyance and anger on him and none on Victor. This lasts for about 48 hours, because Hiroko cannot stand to see anyone both hungry and sad.
