Probably both. There are some artists I looked up to as a teenager- now looking at their art, I see a lot of flaws. Mainly I think they think they no longer need to study anatomy or use references or something because they’ve been doing art for so long. In some cases, they are good at rendering but terrible at anatomy, something that could be easily fixed if they took the time to do so.
