an angel on letterboxd just dropped a whole playlist of films free on youtube I was filled with so much love and light I had to share with you guys
it also includes short films, animated movies, documentaries of every genre, full recordings of live performances. all spanning different decades from different countries. YOU DONT EVEN FUCKING KNOW
there are also websites like worldscinema, solidaritycinema, and rarefilmm hosting incredible obscure world cinema for free! and if you're more inclined towards the esoteric, there's also evilbjork's avant-garde canon playlist on youtube! also important to mention Maya S. Cade's incredible black film archive and the otherness archive, an obscure queer cinema archive! You could always be watching more films !
For reasons I cannot get into now, please think about Mattin trying to strategically pout to get something. A) not being good at it, yet so endearing B) not realizing he doesn't need to pout because Arden and Mil will do whatever he wants anyway and C) Arden and Mil being devastated by it anyway

Saw a post telling people they need to take care of their brains (which you do) but the tone of the first post was weird and rude and the addition was written by a terf, and then the comments were full of learned helplessness so.
Hey yes you need to treat your brain (which is your body) well, or as well as you can. That means hydrating, and it means providing fun stimulation, and it means eating and sleeping as regularly as you can, and it means exercising *if you can* and the number of people insisting they cannot do these things all the time and therefore cannot do them at all is.....
Your brain requires energy, a lot of it. I recognize that capitalism exists and that disabilities exist. Nobody is saying they don't. They are saying you are piloting your body and you need to do *the best you can* to take care of it so that you, a human person who deserves the best, can thrive.
So for the record, audiobooks count as reading. Watching new movies or listening to new podcasts count as new stimuli. Go sit or stand outside for a while, even on a balcony. Try your best to feed yourself regularly. (So many famous authors have routines that include meals and snacks *before* they start writing because writing is exercise for your brain. So are puzzles. So is learning a new skill, be that how to chop veggies properly or needlepoint or a dance move.) Any food is better than no food. Water is good. If you don't like water or have sensory issues with it, then figure out juices or homemade Popsicles or whatever you need to do to make your wretched beast self a little less wretched.
Having to adapt everything to fit your needs is exhausting. Feeling like all advice is not aimed at you in all respects is real. Because yeah, not all advice is exactly for you. But if you don't take care of you, who will? Your brain (which is your body) functions better with proper rest, food, and care. That is just a fact. I have a bad hip. I have been depressed. I have worked two jobs that did not include writing, which would make three. I have days where I still cannot get my brain to focus no matter what. I still try my best (and sometimes fail) to drink water, eat, exercise, go to bed at some sort of scheduled time, and to expose myself to new things or do the nyt Connections every day. And I am better for doing that. And I get more writing done when I manage it, which makes me feel better too.
If someone says reading or learning to watch movies critically is good for your brain, you do not have to do those things. But you should consider whether you ought to do *something* if you are unhappy or in a rut. Start small. You don't need to do it all at once. In fact, making a bunch of major changes all at once tends to doom people to failure. Doing small changes repetitively until they stick is much easier. Figure out what works for you, but yes, feed your brain (which is your body).
Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
When we bought our car, I told Sean to let me handle it. I walked in and said "We have X for a down payment and cannot pay more than Y in monthly payments." My Y number had some leeway, but I didn't mention that.
First thing the sales guy did after I laid down the rules was turn to Sean and go, "What's your number?" And Sean said. "Oh, no, you negotiate with Gayle."
So, strike one for the sales guy. Could not divide and conquer us by implying THE MAN would not surprised at what I laid down.
Sales guy then had to confer with his manager and left us at his desk for several minutes. I have a vague recollection (this was 16 years ago) of Sean and I amusing ourselves doing bits about the other people there to look at cars. I am sure we did not give off the stressed or nervous energy they were hoping for.
Guy comes back. His first offer is fifty dollars a month more than I told him we could pay. I looked at him and said "I gave you our upper limit."
"Well, but what's another 50 bucks a month?"
"Something I can't afford."
He didn't know what to do with my open and unashamed admittal that I had a budget because my money was finite.
He went back to talk to the manager again.
It took two more rounds of "I told you what I can afford" before he finally came back 20 bucks under what I'd stated as my max.
The trick to resisting high-stress sales tactics is doing the math at home, knowing exactly what you can afford, and then walking into the room and stating that number minus 15%. Then refusing to budge from that number. Never, ever, meet then where they want. Always meet them where you want. Because at the end of the day, you can walk away and go somewhere else and say "I told the people at Z what my terms were, and they refused to work with me. Here are my terms. Meet them, and you make a sale today."

Guys they’re literally fine what is everyone talking abt 🥀🥀🥀
I love the hagiographies that are like "St. Christopher was 12 feet tall and frost giants helped him build an abbey out of the bones of a giant pig, which were gold"
And then you Google the abbey and it's clearly just French and made of slate rock or whatever.
pig giant bones turn slate and french after a few years
that makes sense
