Celebrating micro fanfiction in the Vampire Chronicles fandom, this event will feature prompts for each week of May to inspire drabbles, ficlets, vignettes, and short fiction.
This is a yearly fandom event to inspire short works of fiction in the month of May! The goal is to use these prompts to create short works aiming to be between 100 to 1000 words. (Though no one is going to be mad if you go a little over.)
You can post your work on Tumblr, AO3, anywhere you post fic. There will be a collection on AO3 as well if you wish to add your work there. Please tag @vcmicroficmay and use the hashtag #vcmicroficmay to help us find your work so we can share it, and feel free to message us if you think we missed your entry!
We also have a collection on AO3 you can add your work to!
This even opens May 1 (though technically Week 1 starts on May 4, we're not picky!) See our other post for event rules. Late entries allowed! And special thanks to @rebelrevenant for coming up with many of these delicious prompts!

Pairings: Armand/Daniel, Alice/Daniel
Words: 800

‘It’s so tacky.’

Babe.
‘I don’t want anything, c’mon, let’s go get our gear.’
Armand would not be so unappreciative. He’d cup the garish thing delicately in his hands. Perhaps he would disparage the design, but with a lilting tone, betraying on purpose his delight in the offering. A gift from Daniel, ugly and destined to be cherished.
I want to thank everyone who participated in VC Microfic May this year, writing or reading! There was a massive amount of entries this year! I'm so happy this event continues to be a success, and that's all because of all of you who wrote and posted your short fics! 💖
Please note that late entries are absolutely welcome, so if you have a ficlet you do not finish or post yet and still want to, please feel free to do so!
If you haven't done so yet, please check out the AO3 collection and read some of the incredible microfic! And if you do, please consider leaving comments on the fics you enjoy.
Thanks again! This has been so much fun and we look forward to doing this again next year!
I have updated with 5 more small excerpts from Marius' journals. I finished this collection and this journey into the mind of my favorite character. I thank @vcmicroficmay for creating this event ♥️
Fandom: Vampire Chronicles
Pairing: Lestat/Louis
Prompt: Memento
Summary: Claudia, in rare form, asks Lestat for reassurance: will time, in all of its enormity for them, eventually erode away their family? He gifts her a time capsule filled with mementos, and a promise: near or far, they will meet to unearth it together in 100 years.
If she would only approach him softly, rather than catch his skin, where her little teeth were still blunt between the punctuations he’d honed himself –
If she would simply just –
No. No, if Claudia had been more saccharine in her approach, Lestat could bear it less. What she was, what he’d done. All the better she was his little beast. He even had the passing notion he was encouraging it every now and again.
Or else how could he love her so terribly yet all the while express it so contrarily?
If she were to look at him with tenderness he might fall upon his knees in the first prayer he dared to utter since the heavens turned austere and gray on him, all its wings turning like cold shoulders, before ceasing to exist to him at all.
“We are a family. That means forever,” Lestat said behind his teeth. Like a threat. "Quite literally in our case."
They stayed quiet, aware that Louis still slept in his own remote box of sleek varnished black, his little hearse without wheels. Lestat very nearly lapsed back into slumber.
He caught himself imagining it was Louis who lay beside him, and his insides recoiled. But not enough, for those treacherous tendrils still reached, and yearned, and not for her.
“Forever?” She pressed, dug her nails into his forearm, left little red crescent ligatures. Even within the shade of his sumptuously lined tomb her eyes glittered. Only barely, like the last lit wick of a votive candle after all the other prayers had been snuffed out. But if it had been lit in the spirit of mockery, for devil-summoning. Such a force she was to behold, she frightened him. “Then you are surely something worse than a liar.”
He would not be so furious, and so damned often, if she did not frighten him.
Lestat held her. So ferociously that she whimpered, and then remembered herself, and she was quiet, as though chastising herself for giving him the pleasure.
“... and you are obtuse if it’s taken you so long to notice.”
They lay in silence so long that Lestat suspected a shift from the neighboring coffin had woken them both. Lestat with a faint start, Claudia with a hum, shifting in the arms that had loosened significantly, but not entirely, from their former chokehold.
He had clung to her in his sleep and she, as if swaddled in the thrall of his confession of monstrous, deeply complicated, and unpardonable love for her, slept for some hours on.
Lestat had eventually untangled himself to find Louis.
This is my final entry for @vcmicroficmay for the prompt "Memento."
Marius is worried when he comes home to find Daniel is not where he left him.
Full ficlet under the cut or cross-posted to AO3.
___________________________
Marius was surprised to find the living room empty when he got home. Daniel had been seated in front of the television when he’d left, watching a movie called Time Bandits. Daniel rarely paid attention to the television for long but tonight he had been captivated by it. He was on his second play through of the movie.
Marius had found it encouraging. Daniel had been incoherent or catatonic for nights at a time, occasionally breaking out of it to sob for hours until he wore himself out. It was rare that his lucidly returned and he seemed more with it. On such nights, Marius would often read to him from a novel or play a radio drama, and Daniel would listen with the occasional comment or laugh. Those were the good nights, proof that Daniel could—and would—recover, even if he had a long way yet to go
So this interest in the film was a relief. Daniel was laughing, entertained.
“I’ve seen it before tonight, you know,” he told Marius, as he rewound the tape for his second viewing.
“Is it a favorite of yours?” Marius asked.
Daniel had frowned, as if the question flummoxed him. He gave no answer. Marius ruffled his soft ashen blond hair, gently reassuring him that it was okay. At least he seemed content, and that was better than the chaos that could bloom in the boy’s mind.
So when Marius got home and found the television dark, the tape hanging out of the VCR, he felt his heart drop. But then, perhaps watching one movie twice in a row was all Daniel had the stamina for. He went to Daniel’s bedroom, which was empty, the coffin lid open. Marius began searching other parts of the house. He could feel Daniel’s presence but he wasn’t anywhere he looked.
Panic rose inside him as he went from room to room, calling Daniel’s name periodically in a carefully controlled tone so as not to spook him. When the dark clouds descended on his brain, Daniel’s responses were not always logical. He got scared of thunder storms, of rain pounding the windows. And sometimes, of Marius.
Marius reached the partially finished basement where a washer and dryer had been installed, along with a half finished, windowless room, the wood frame hollow around it. Daniel was sitting there, huddled in the corner. He was rocking back and forth, muttering something to himself.
Marius stopped in the doorway. Daniel’s head was bent down, his knees pulled up to his chest. His t-shirt had blood splattered on the front of it. He must have gone out to hunt. Marius cursed himself for leaving Daniel alone, believing his concentration on the film was enough to keep him occupied and safe at home.
But he was here, returned. That was something. He tried to force himself to relax. Daniel was safe.
Daniel kept repeating the same words. Marius realized it was a snippet of dialogue from the movie, repeated over and over in a half-whisper, as if Daniel couldn’t stop.
“Daniel?”
Daniel did not seem to hear him. He was focused on whatever it was he was holding.
Marius moved slowly as came closer so as not to startle the boy, but he might as well not have been there.
“Daniel, what it is you have?” Marius carefully bent down and touched Daniel’s shoulder.
Daniel’s head jerked up. His violet eyes were clouded, unfocused. He stared at Marius but did not seem to really see him. Marius looked at the thing he held. It was a fistful of auburn hair.
Marius held back a gasp. It was the same color as Armand’s, stark against the white of Daniel’s long marble fingers. Marius reached for it without thinking and Daniel snatched it away, clutching it to his chest.
“Not his,” Daniel said.
“It’s okay, Daniel, I don’t intend to take it,” Marius said.
Daniel hunched over, holding the hair. Marius straightened and stepped back to give Daniel space. He pushed into Daniel’s mind, which was again crowded by dark clouds. There, he saw the image of a young man with auburn hair who resembled Armand, though this young man was taller and thinner. Daniel’s memory was muddled, disjointed, but Marius saw Daniel kill this doppelganger and let his body fall to ground. Only then did Daniel bend down over the corpse and tear out this chunk of hair with his fist.
Daniel looked up at him, perhaps feeling Marius in his mind.
“Not Armand’s hair,” Daniel said. “Just a memento.”
He wasn’t called Daniel for nothing. He was known for surviving those lions’ dens.
In hindsight, he shouldn’t have been surprised to learn that his long and successful track record with survival was really only made possible by some preternatural intervention. When he looked back at himself fifty years earlier, there was no way that moron was surviving to middle age let alone his seventies without some assistance.
Pairing: Loustat and Devil's Minion (all of them being messy basically)
Words: 996
Rating: M
What Daniel walks in on is the most unprofessional display he’s seen from an interview subject since Louis sucked off “Rashid” at the dining table. There’s still sucking off happening, just in the more… conventional sense.
Daniel could just sneak out unobserved, but he’s an asshole. Also, he knows a hypocrite when he sees one.
Daniel leans against the doorframe. “I thought you weren’t taking him back this time.”
Sighing through another night of Amel’s chattering, Lestat hears his adopted daughter, Rose, through the balcony doors to the ballroom. He glances over his shoulder to see her ask Magnus to dance. . .

End of season two AMC IWTV, with references from season one - After the revelations and the fight, Louis tells Daniel to leave as fast as he can but Armand has other ideas.
What really happened after Louis left.
What do you do when you’re all alone with a powerful, ancient vampire?
“And your fingers, man,” Daniel says, bringing Armand’s hand to his mouth and kissing his knuckles. “They’re just so…”
Armand turns his head and purrs in his ear. “You’d like to know what they’d feel like inside you, wouldn’t you, Daniel?”
Daniel blushes. “I… I didn’t say that.”
“Oh, Daniel,” Armand says, hooking a leg over Daniel’s body and straddling him. “You’d feel so much better if you surrendered to your desires.”
