in the uk, “bent” and "poof" are homophobic slurs.
it’s not a whimsical british euphemism and i wish non-british writers would stop treating it as such
I know you heard it in Monty Python, but a 1970s TV show by a bunch of straight white men is not a good guide for realistic language between LGBT people!
and before you pipe up, no, it’s not a widely reclaimed slur. as a queer english person i’m begging you to stop using it (unless the character saying it is actually homophobic). just like... replace the word “bent” or "poof" with “a f*g” and if it doesn’t work, change it for something else. gay or queer are perfectly good adjectives! thanks!
